Dany - Tumblr Posts

The Mother of Dragons in anime-style! I wanted to draw her for sooo looong, now I finally had some time! She’s one of my favourite “Game of Thrones” characters (wanted to draw one of her dragons too, but, nope). I’ve used a reference from this site/deviantart user, Hirvios !
Okay so I am finally fully reading Dany’s chapters for the first time (The other times were only half and snippets) and during Visery’s death scene, this section stuck out to me and I haven’t seen anyone talking about it.
“Distantly, as from far away, Dany heard her handmaid Jhiqui sobbing in fear, pleading that she dared not translate, that the khal would bind her and drag her behind his horse all the way up the Mother of Mountains. She put her arm around the girl. “Don’t be afraid,” she said. “I shall tell him.”
Can we talk about this for a sec?
This is a 13/14 year old pregnant girl, who is being held at swordpoint by her abusive drunk brother, who had just been threatened of being taken back and having her unborn child cut out of her by said brother.
and yet, the minute she heard Jhiqui crying and being afraid of what would happen to her if she translated that to Khal Drogo, and the first thing she does is comfort and reassure her, that she would translate Visery’s words herself.
Can you believe that?! That a young girl is being threatened with basically death and yet still finds it within her to worry about someone else’s suffering?!
And some of y’all idiots on here still say that she is destined to go crazy and that she has “always been powerhungry and cruel”???!?!?!!
None of y’all talk to me until a semblance of a brain cell comes crawling back into that empty head of yours.
Holy fuck, I knew the show whitewashed Jorah but I didn’t realize just how MUCH! He did not learn ANYTHING from his exile/punishment! He still tries to justify slavery and then tries to make Dany give up her morals and stance on slavery!
And they way he keeps trying to touch her when she has shown multiple times throughout her chapters that she was uncomfortable with him touching her or staring at her breasts! When he kisses her, she pushes him away and tells him he shouldn’t have done that. When he gives his shit explanation, he AIN’T EVEN LOOKING HER IN THE EYE! HE’S STARING AT HER CHEST AGAIN!
He severely crossed a line for her and scared her, to the point where she always has her handmaids or her bloodriders around her in case he tries again and actively avoids him. Smells like red flags to me.
He’s a jackass through and through. How in the fucking hell did Dumbass and Dick take all that predatory behavior away and made him this sympathetic good character in the show?! RIDDLE ME THAT! They made Dany go “mAd” but made Jorah this good guy white knight? HELL FUCKING NO! I’ve been mad side eyeing those two for a while now but now alarms are ringing in my head.
Fuck that and for the 500th time, FUCK THE SHOW!
Anyways, we’re getting my favorite part. Where Dany finally does what she should’ve done from the get go and deal with those asshole, arrogant slavers.
how this episode should have gone:
-Dany, still reeling from the shock and grief of her best friend’s death, learns of Varys’s betrayal
-They hold a proper trial where Varys is found guilty of treason and subsequently executed. This is highly emotionally taxing for everyone involved.
-Tyrion goes to Jaime and asks him for help removing Cersei peacefully, since he has fears about Dany’s state of mind. Jaime agrees, and they hatch a plan where he sneaks into the red keep and pretends to still love Cersei, appealing to her as a mother rather than a queen.
-Jaime asks Tyrion to tell Brienne that he loves her
-Dany flies on King’s Landing while Grey Worm, Jon, and Davos assemble their armies outside the gates.
-Dany takes out the iron fleet and the scorpions on the walls. When she sees the Lannister troops surrender, she flies straight for the red keep to confront Cersei
-The whole thing with Arya and the Hound goes down exactly as it did
-Jaime manages to convince Cersei to leave with him, and they are at the little shore at the bottom of the staircase when Euron shows up. Cersei turns against Jaime and orders Euron to kill her brother
-Euron and Jaime fight it out, much like they did in the episode. Jaime wins, but knows he cannot continue to live. Finally forced to confront what Cersei has become he kills her, before succumbing to his injuries and dying at her side
-Dany attacks the red keep, believing that Cersei is still inside and unwittingly sparks up the wyldfire, which sets off chain reactions across the city, causing irreparable damage and carnage
-We see Arya trying to get out of the path of destruction, much as she did during the episode
-Grey Worm, Jon, and Davos organize their troops to help people out of the city and rescue them from the fires. They are forced to make terrible decisions during this. We see Grey Worm allowing a few people to die in order to rescue a larger group of people, Davos must leave someone behind because he can’t reach them in the rubble, Jon commits a mercy killing for someone who is too injured to survive
-Cleganebowl goes down almost exactly as it did in the episode, but instead of falling into fire they just fall onto pavement. Arya finds the Hound dying a slow horrible death and he asks her to kill him. This time she agrees and gives him a swift, painless death, waiting at his side while he dies
-Much as the prophecy foretold, we see Dany walking into the throne room alone while it rains ash. She nearly reaches the throne when she hallucinates Drogo and their son off to the side (again, like the prophecy). She runs to him and admits that she thinks she is going mad. Drogo reminds her that she must be stronger than the madness. She must recognize it wherever she can and fight to get past it.
-Dany says a tearful goodbye to Drogo, finally letting him go, and takes the iron throne. The last shot is of her sitting tall and proud, but if you look closely you can see her hands shake a little.

And Hell followed with him.
Saying that Mad Queen Dany was “foreshadowed” because she had some morally grey scenes is the equivalent of saying Jon was destined to be a dictator because he executed a man that was begging for mercy and didn’t compromise when the northern lords disagreed with his choices, or that Arya was destined to be a psychopath because she cooked men into pies, or that Sansa was destined to become a sadist because she was fascinated and smiled when she had hounds eat a guy’s face, or that Tyrion was destined to be vicious because he wished he could poison everyone in Kings landing, or

Cersei seeing her propaganda actually turning out to be true
do you think dany knew what she was doing when she hatched her dragons or was it just an accident?
oh yes i think she knew exactly what she was doing. the magic in her blood and the eggs and the fire was speaking to her, coming through in her dragon dreams—especially that last fever dream after her miscarriage. i think she knew it was possible before because she could feel the eggs stirring and the magic waking up (and she was already connecting with drogon and drawing strength from him), but it was mirri maz duur who actually taught her how to do it.
i love that what she’s actually doing is never explicitly stated, yet everything she’s doing saying and thinking gives her away. like she swears to jorah she doesn’t intend to die with drogo, she directly compares herself to aegon, she places the eggs on the pyre and tells mirri maz duur that she’s going to take her life because only death can pay for life, etc., but the closest dany ever comes to directly saying it is when it’s done and the last dragon is about to hatch:

like calling herself mother of dragons and then calling them her children is unequivocal, but before that grrm’s building the suspense and creating this heady wild momentum. it feels very similar to reading her wake the dragon fever dream, and provides such a great insight into her character. the space in the narrative where she doesn’t acknowledge what she’s doing or exactly why she’s doing it is where the magic lives, and it also gives her a place to hide any lingering uncertainty or fear, while still making it clear that she understands what’s happening: that she is in fact making it happen.
but like speaking of accidents, i’m obsessed with the difference between dany’s success and egg’s flop tragedy. she uses her husband’s funeral pyre, the husband whose life she traded her son’s for, to wake the dragons (including herself) and creates life from death. aegon v tried to hatch dragon eggs during rhaegar’s birth (the child he and jaehaerys ii traded rhaella’s happiness and agency for) and instead made a pyre of summerhall and most of his family. rhaegar was the last dragon, born in fire, and now it’s her—but it was always her and he always had to die. “the face within was her own.” crazy. insane.
i’m sure people have pointed this out before, but the magic here always makes me think of this line from the last unicorn: “real magic can never be made by offering up someone else’s liver. you must tear out your own, and not expect to get it back.” grrm’s use of magic is very similar, just as the unicorn and dany are similar, and i think it’s very possible that other attempts to hatch dragons in the past failed in part because whoever was trying didn’t understand this (and also because they were a. men and b. not daenerys lol). magic has a price, and it’s always high. this is one of the hardest lessons dany has to learn, and she thanks mirri maz duur for it in the end, because she understands that it had to be her own child, her womb, her husband, her sun and his fire that’s really hers burning someone’s life away—and this whole time, the entire book up until this point, she’s been cracking open like the moon, like the eggs on the pyre, and then she joins them in the fire.

"you stand in the presence of Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, rightful heir to the Iron Throne, rightful Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, the Mother of Dragons, the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, the Breaker of Chains."
"This is Jon Snow... He's King in the North."
one of my favorite scenes from the series lmao
honestly i think sansa should be the one to burn down kl and i think dany should hold her hand while she does it 👉👈
You know what I DO think that Dany should go berserk and mad but instead of burning KL she’ll just burn all the people who genuinely believe that batshit theory about her going insane
