Mobility aids and sensory aids aren’t a “worst case scenario”
Stop acting like it’s a tragedy when someone starts using a cane or wheelchair, and stop acting like it’s someone admitting defeat if they need ear defenders or stim toys.
Aids are a good thing. They allow us to live better than we could before, and that’s something to celebrate, not demean and be doom and gloom about.

Archie Axolotl seems to be nonverbal, using sign language to communicate.

Celenia the Cat has a weakened immune system.

Louie the Mango is dyslexic.

Everyone need to read this: disabled people so they can stop thinking they are a burden or that it's their fault and abled people so they can know that is not OUR fault, and they realize that we are people too and they need to try to understand us and support us when anything like this happens.
It’s okay to stim in public. It’s not your fault if you need accommodations in public spaces. Your mobility aid is not inconvenience. Your disability is not an inconvenience. It’s okay if you need help reading a menu or if you need different menu that’s easier to read. It’s not your fault if your mobility aid interfered with someone else’s day (getting your chair stuck in an entrance), the world was not made with our needs in mind. It’s not your fault if you didn’t understand something socially and messed up. It’s okay if you need to wear ear defenders and sunglasses inside, you’re not rude, the lights and sound are just hard. You are not a bad person and you’re not a burden.
first adventure in the new wheelchair:
boyedfriend and i walked/wheeled over to some fast food places for lunch now that i could tag along! i've been having an awful flare-up for the past three days that has left me unable to stand for even short periods without discomfort, so being able to get the wheelchair today was great!!
i was already pretty aware of just how inaccessible some of the sidewalk in my neighborhood is, but actually BEING in the wheelchair showed me even more (rolling up over ramp curbs is way scarier than i thought LOL)
also, a LOT of buildings around here could work on their level of accessibility. i struggled a lot with narrow doorways, automatic doors that didn't open fully, slopes and ramps that were too steep, counters that were too tall, etc. (i made sure to point these out to the boyfriend so that he was aware, too)
it wasn't my first time using a wheelchair (the local mall has complimentary wheelchairs that i use frequently), but it WAS my first time using a wheelchair that I OWN (!!!) so overall the experience was great!
i might talk about more experiences and adventures i have with the wheelchair in the future!

Growing Up Disabled
Maybe I’ve always been this way.
Always in need of a helping hand
Always in need of more support.
Would my parents love me any more
If I was born
The way I was supposed to be
Without the pain
Without the awkwardness
Without the need?
But I grew up this way,
It’s all I’ve ever known
So why be sad
When I can be glad
That today is better than most.

Why am I doing this early? Because fuck the rules (also I may not have time later lol)
this one was hard just because I don’t use mobility aids so pls let me know if anything is offensive or incorrect.
Mobility Aids
Walking can be hard
So I don’t.
I wheel around
To avoid the hurt.
The pain
The suffering
Is all too much
So I use these tools
To avoid the muck

I don’t have a poem/art work for the curb-cut effect so ima just talk about it!
Basically, the curb-cut effect is when something accessible helps multiple groups of people, disabled or other wise. One of the most common examples is the curb cut (the little drop off that curbs have primarily for wheelchair users). It can be helpful for people with strollers, wheeling around big items, etc..
Another example are automatic doors, which are usually for disabled people but can also help people who have a lot to carry and possibly even little kids if the doors are really heavy.
Hope this helps anyone who was wondering!!

For today I’m doing memory loss. Made it all fuzzy to represent that (ik it’s not super creative but yk)

This is the next day for the disability pride boogaloo by @thepromptfoundry!! It was “autonomy”! Took some inspiration from the puppet boy audio from TikTok lol. This mainly catered to my tics but feel free to interpret how you wish!!!
Puppet Girl
Dance dance dance
Sway sway sway
Do as they wish
Move as they wish
You are not allowed
To have your own moves
You are a puppet, girl
you move when they want to
Nonverbal for todays Disability boogaloo by @thepromptfoundry!!
Speak
I can’t speak
Can’t even try
While others around me
Are noisy
And refuse to be quiet
Its all too much
And I can’t stop it
Speak
Speak
Speak
People bark at me? I have a cane?
Yes, I am in fact a big dog with a big stick. I'm feisty, I'm persistent, I'm passionate. But most importantly I carry a stick with me everywhere
Sending love to anyone whose disability has changed the way they look.. whether that be through surgery, medication, shifts in weight, using mobility aids, being limited in the ways you can exercise, having a colostomy bag added, glucose monitors, prosthetics, or anything else that's changed or added to your appearance
It's hard having your body change, especially if it's in a way you don't like at first — whether your disability has given you scars, stretch marks, spots, marks, or altered your appearance entirely: sending love, you've got this.
the accessibility settings are there for a reason. if you need to use them, use them
a reminder to my fellow disabled people it isn't wrong or make you less of a player for using accessibility options.
a reminder that playing on a low difficulty only or (like with games with minecraft) no difficulty
a reminder that using unlimited health options like in cult of the lamb is not bad or wrong and you are no less of a player for using it
turning brightness high on horror games like tattletale whether its because you are visually impaired or because you cannot handle the fear a low-light scene can cause.
disabled people are not any less a gamer for needing accessibility options. we are not any less a gamer for playing the game on easy. we are not any less a gamer because we are disabled and might not be able to get all the achievements or trophies or whatever a game has available.
we deserve to be able to enjoy the games we want to play
Gentle reminder that disabilities are disabling.
You're not some awful, bad person for not doing things that able-bodied people can do without negative consequences.
Sometimes, you haven't showered in a while.
Sometimes, your room is a mess.
Sometimes, the dishes pile up.
That doesn't make you a failure or deserving of less respect, support, and kindness.
Being disabled, having disabilities, and things that result from said disabilities, don't change the fact you deserve to exist. You deserve peace, and love.
The only video games I enjoy are the ones where I am in control of what happens. Currently my favorite is Disney DreamLight Valley because I love Disney!
