"I live in a red state my vote doesn't ma-"
If your vote didn't matter they wouldn't try so hard to make it harder to vote in red states. Voting in red states can turn them into swing states like Georgia, Ohio, and Arizona. And voting in blue states can keep them from becoming swing states.
California used to be Red. Texas was Blue long ago. Florida was once a swing state. Obama took Indiana but it's gone redder since. Ten years ago Arizona and Georgia going blue was unthinkable.
Things change and we can make them change.
And that's before getting into more local elections. Turning cities blue, the state legislature.
Red states have flipped blue in recent years at those levels too.
Because people vote, and if we vote in high enough numbers we can turn a tight election into a walk in the park. If we vote in high enough numbers, we can turn a loss into a win. So many good things have happened in states where someone won by like 100 votes. (arizona is one)
For the first time in forever I'm actually feeling hopeful about the state of US politics. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz may not be as radical as some progressives are demanding asking, but for American politicians they are an absolute breath of fresh air.
With how the Republican party has been trying to recreate Nazi Germany, it's such a relief that we have Democratic candidates who are outspoken supporters of LGBTQ rights, women's rights, civil rights, etc. It also definitely helps that they're not completely tonguing Israel's boot.
If you're an American citizen and over 18, you have no excuse to not vote this November.
Hi unsolicited opinion from a British person incoming. If you live in the US and you don’t vote for Kamala you’re fucking stupid and basically the entire rest of the world will want to give you a slap for passing up the opportunity to bring in one of the least dogshit front-running leftist politicians in recent history just because you don’t agree with absolutely every single little tiny thing she believes.
Here in the UK we would give almost fucking ANYTHING to have a politician who openly shows care for their country’s people even an eighth as much as Kamala does. Do NOT fuck this up.
Pretty sure the last time 3rd Party won was in the 1800s so stop fucking deluding yourselves people
So I looked it up because I was curious, and no third-party candidate has won a presidential election since the Republican Party became the second major party in 1856. They did split the vote in 1844, 2000, and 2016 (according to Wikipedia) and we’ve had the misfortune of living through the consequences of two of those results.
It is an absolute impossibility this time so yeah, the choices are vote blue, vote red, or admit you don’t care and are fine with either option.
All the people saying I’m a fascist piece of shit or stupid or arrogant and self-centered because I dared to care about what happens in my own country? All the people yelling that I somehow support the genocide in Palestine by choosing harm reduction instead of complacent rage?
They’re wrong. And they will be complicit in the war crimes and genocides that the Trump administration will fund and allow and promote.
And it won’t just be Palestine that suffers.
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are the best and most progressive democratic ticket that’s ever existed in my lifetime. And they’re the best chance we have for a future.
Now is not the time to scream and yell and cry that you’re not voting unless you get your perfect ticket. It’s pathetic and disingenuous, and I’ve given up arguing.
This is the piss on the poor website and I know how to use the block button lol
You know what, this "we should withhold from voting for the Democrats to punish them and teach them a lesson" logic makes no sense, because even if that would work, wouldn't it be more logical to vote for Democrats to try and punish the Republicans? Like if there's anybody you wanna try and show you won't stand for, wouldn't it make sense to target the actual worst people in government?
I live in the very Red state of Oklahoma, and a boomer MAGAt told me to my face today that "If you are voting for Kamala because you 'don't like the other guy', why even fucking vote at all?" So anyway, Harris/Walz 2024.
It is amazing to me how many people claim to be leftists and claim to support Palestinians yet seem to be working very hard to 1) convince people to not vote for Kamala and 2) make it easier for Trump to win.
They claim that because Kamala isn't perfect in her stance (even though she is calling for a ceasefire and willing to talk to Pro-Palestinian protesters) that you should either not vote or vote third party.
However, due to the way that the system is set up third party is NOT a viable option on the national level. Not only that, but this is a HUGE year for elections. Every single House seat is up for election as well as many Senate seats. We could vote in enough Democrats to have a super majority and prevent more Republicans from having space in the Supreme Court and blocking Republican policies.
However, if Trump wins I can pretty much guarantee that he will send troops to aid Israel and he will probably seek to aid Putin in Ukraine. He will strip rights for Americans and make things worse for immigrants. He has already stated that he will "fix things so well you'll never have to vote again".
If you care about Palestinians, POC, women, LGBTQA people, immigrants, the Congo, Ukraine, ect then vote for Kamala and blue down the ticket.
I think something that's not clicking for a lot of people on the left with the whole "Tampon Tim" thing (beyond general misogyny and transphobia) is that in conservative areas, there can actually be a pretty huge stigma on tampons vs pads
At least some areas where I grew up in the South, there were even some parents that would outright refuse to let their daughters use tampons (especially in middle school/junior high)
I remember going to the pool and seeing some girls just uncomfortably sitting off to the side, because they were on their period and were only allowed pads. Then in general, there were times people would offer each other products during an emergency, with some girls apologizing and awkwardly refusing tampons even when that was the only thing available, or girls apologizing they couldn't offer any tampons because they weren't allowed to have them
Even though for the most part there is a logical acknowledgement that it's just a hygiene product, there's still the general phrase I'd hear of "Nothing should go up there until marriage"
Then even beyond that, periods in general were seen as something personal and embarrassing that you were supposed to hide however you could (and this is still true in most places). Even a married man with children could get mocked for buying his wife any period products
With all of this, Tim Walz crossed multiple lines by specifically and publicly making period products available - especially tampons, especially in middle schools, and especially in boys' bathrooms. Boys (and people in general) shouldn't have to be aware of periods, and especially not something as morally questionable as a tampon.
So yeah. For some people "Tampon Tim" really is a deeply cutting and uncomfortable insult, to associate him with something (seen as) disgusting and borderline immoral that no one should ever be associated with.
who the fuck gives a single shit if someone on this website thinks voting for kamala is ‘selfish’ or that it’s wrong to vote ‘just because you will benefit’. fellas is it selfish to want to continue to have access to vital healthcare. is it selfish to want a president that isn’t a fascist and a felon and misogynist and a sex criminal. is it selfish to prioritise your own employment rights when your job is the only way you can keep your health insurance and keep a roof over your head and put food on the table. is it selfish to think that out of the two candidates available it’s preferable to pick the one that might achieve a ceasefire instead of the one that will definitely escalate the genocide
Trying to mostly stay away from politics on this blog, but today there’s something I just need to say.
Kamala Harris just defied DECADES of inside-the-Beltway “wisdom” by picking Walz as her running mate instead of Shapiro. The gray-hairs were probably all telling her she had to go with Shapiro to court the independents. Instead of picking the moderate, staunchly pro-Israel guy, she went with a full-on progressive with a strong LGBTQ+, pro-choice, pro-union record.
She’s making a leap of faith here. She’s betting that progressives, young people, and marginalized people will show up for her if she shows that she’s listening. As someone who lived through several decades when progressives didn’t have a voice even in the Democratic party, I can’t begin to tell you how huge this is.
In the coming months, you will no doubt read/hear things about Harris or Walz that you won’t like. Some of it may even be true. There may well already be things you don’t like about her.
Unfortunately, the choice isn’t between a perfect candidate and an imperfect candidate. The choice is between an imperfect candidate and possibly the most disgusting man on the planet, a guy who isn’t even trying to hide his plans to destroy the US. If Palestine is your #1 issue, know that he will do everything he can to pour gas on the flames until there’s nothing left.
Harris made the choice to listen to progressive voices. If she loses because we didn’t show up for her in huge numbers, we’ll likely be wandering in the wilderness for decades more while the planet burns around us.
(Oh, and we’ll need to show up again in ‘26. Let’s not make the same mistake we made in 2010, when the left stayed home after electing Obama and Republicans won big everywhere, which led to the extreme gerrymandering we’re still dealing with in many states.)
So, I really love the selection of Tim Walz for VP and it’s taken me a moment to articulate why. I mean, obviously, Dem bonafides, he’s sharp, he’s funny, etc etc. But everyone in the Veepstakes fits that bill, Harris was spoiled for good choices.
But Walz offers something that the other men in contention don’t that I think will be incredibly useful in combating Trumpism.
He offers an example and an off ramp to the section of men who felt like they were Republicans by default, and so support Trump by default. There are a lot of Trump voters who are full on obsessive, but that’s not who we’re talking to. We’re talking to folks who grew up in Republican areas, or felt their hobbies didn’t line up with who a Democrat was, or didn’t feel represented by their image of a Democrat. You want to see it so you can be it, you know? Which is why Harris is so inspirational to a lot of segments of folks, but Walz is too.
He served in the military. He went to a state college. He’s your favorite teacher from your public high school. He’s your football coach who actually cared if you were passing your math class. He’s the guy you looked up to at school when your family sucked but this guy cared, and he helped you get out and make something of yourself.
He’s the neighbor who helps you jump your car. He’s your uncle who takes you hunting. He’s your Dad who loves teasing you at the Stare Fair. He’s you when he makes a mistake like his DUI and takes responsibility for it, and when he has the chance makes sure other can come back from similar mistakes. He’s you when you and your wife want so badly to be parents and IVF gives you the family you wanted. He’s you when he says ‘it had to be me’ and used his standing and power to protect vulnerable kids sponsoring the GSA at his school.
He gives the real life example to these men that they can be that football, fishing, hunting family man who wants to provide for his family, be that powerful, respected member of the community and use that power to feed kids in school. That it’s normal to enthusiastically work for a boss like Harris. That yeah those other guys are fucking weirdos, and you’re not a weirdo, are you?
That there’s a place in the Democratic Party for them. That they don’t have to default to being fucking weird.
I hope those guys see this example of masculinity and go… yeah, that’s me. That’s who I’m gonna be.
One thing I get asked a lot is "Why is always Ukraine with you?" and I'd like to answer that as best as can now.
For context I'm not Ukrainian. I'm American. But I have been closing following this war ever since the full scale invasion in 2022. People in my life have noticed it's a big thing for me know and my support for Ukriane has caused more than one... disagreement.
It's actually very simple. I don't have any high minded ideas about NATO or the EU.
I care because a nation and a culture are being destroyed and hundreds of thousands of people are dying and being injured because Russia won't fuck off.
Because in 2014 Russia waltzed in and annexed a piece of land roughly the size of BELGIUM, and they were sent night vision goggles and blankets by Obama.
Because Ukrainian children are being abducted, given Russian names, moved to Russian families and forced to speak Russian.
I care because there's a nation of people bleeding in the fields of their homeland RIGHT NOW in order to try and stop that madness. Trying to forge a better life for themselves and their children.
I don't care about Russia crying about NATO expansion, or their access to warm water ports or any of that bullshit because it's not Russias decision what happens to Ukriane and for that matter it's not the west's choice either. It's up to UKRIANE if they want to join NATO, or the EU. It's up to UKRIANE to negotiate UKRAINIAN Foreign and domestic policy without worrying what some tinpot dictator in Moscow thinks.
So people can sit there and ask "why is it always Ukraine with you" but then they turn around and talk about " america bad, something something Iraq war" but when ACTAUL IMPERIALIST AGRESSION happens right in front of you.... you don't give a shit because war and politics are messy and this situation doesn't give you the chance to feel good and "own the libs" or whatever side of the political bullshit spectrum you identify with.
Thanks for reading this vent post I guess.
Slava Ukraini
made a beautiful google slides infographic in 60 seconds on why u should Fucking Vote
Tfw you suck at your job and expect the second most powerful person in the world to also suck at her job :(
Critical support for Kamala Harris scaring her staffers into doing their highly lucrative jobs instead of gossiping with reporters at Bullfeathers’
My state is ruby red. Last week, I put up a Harris-Walz sign in my front yard up close to the porch. Every couple days, as I got braver, I moved it a few feet closer to the street where the visibility is better. Two days ago, my sign achieved its curbside position with maximum visibility.
Yesterday, I was out digging in my front yard (I'm rewilding my lawn) and a truck pulled over. A 62-year-old woman gets out, thanks me for my sign, and admits how scared she is to put up her own Democratic lawn sign. She's a registered Republican who hasn't voted for Republicans in more than a decade. We talked for half an hour and I just texted her about the VP Debate watch party this Tuesday.
Things learned:
Not all registered Republicans are actually Republicans.
Boomers and Gen X age voters are changing their minds.
Having a yard sign makes a difference.
Even ruby red states are more purple than you might think.
Ok, I'm just going to say what we've all been thinking. Eric Trump looks like Odo, right?
