1.) Would you rather live in the past, or the future? How far back/forward?
If I had to live in any time other than now, the future. I could not survive in a time without computers or video games, or in a time where it was illegal to be gay. I’d choose exactly one year from now when the Steadman family are all dead and have suffered to the point of their minds being broken in Tartarus. 2.) Name three people you could trust with your life.
Solana and Raphael. That's it. There is no third person I can trust. Not even my benefactor, Phoebe. I think that if she knew that I was going to die in battle, she wouldn’t tell me so that I would fight unafraid of death.
3.) Where would you like to go at the end of your journey?
Elysium. I know that I’m going there anyway when I die, which is perfect, because the alternatives are much, much worse. I’ve seen Tartarus exactly once, and I never wish to see it again, unless Hades let me see it so that I could see how much the Steadman family are suffering there.

My father, the late Captain Johnathan Hart. I would ask him all about his tales, the ones I know and the ones I don’t. Even just sharing a beer with the old man and giving him the biggest hug….ah….I do miss him….
2. If you could travel anywhere at all, where would you go, and who would you take with you?
I’d take the crew on a trip to the Caribbean. As for Benji and I….well….we’d fancy some skinny dipping, aye~?
3. If you had to create a time capsule, what are you putting inside?
I’d put a small trinket from each adventure inside, seal it all nice and tight, and bury it on an isle outside any port’s eye. Perhaps a small bottle of rum….but that’s pushing it.

Ariel was about to ask what he meant, but then a chill started to creep through her veins, like her blood was starting to freeze, and the floor beneath them turned black, and then disappeared, and the three of them fell hard and fast, like they’d been dropped down a mine shaft, for what seemed like forever. They fell, surrounded by nothing but total darkness, and then, suddenly, their feet hit the whitest sand they’d ever seen. There were trees full of tropical fruits; some that Ariel recognised, and others that were probably either extinct in the living world, or native only to Elysium, and the bluest ocean that she had ever seen lapped at the sand.
“It’s…Beautiful down here,” Solana said breathlessly, looking up at the sky. The sky was somehow even more beautiful than the ground; a light blue velvet patterned with what looked like twinkling purple stars, and a white full moon brighter than any sun she’d ever seen.

From the space AU: This is an early scene set in Ellie's orphanage.
Context: "The Belt" is a nearby asteroid belt where this planet keeps imprisoned "criminals." That location is a major part of the plot, so this scene is meant to introduce "The Belt" and portray the children whose parents were imprisoned.

Louis loves his work. He loves the gentle buzz of the tattoo gun in his hand, the way it goes slightly warm after a long session and heats his hands like it's alive. He loves the adrenaline of piercing skin, the trust that comes with marking someone permanently.
So, on Friday morning when he’s been open three hours and the shop is still completely empty he’s disappointed. Lately his work has developed quite a fan base and, though he’s often too humble to admit it, it's been a long time since the shop was empty on walk-in day.
It must be the god awful weather he thinks, signing, as he looks out the long windows at the front of the shop. He watches as rain and sleet pour onto the empty streets outside. There isn’t a single person in sight.
Dejected Louis moves back to the front desk. Situating his feet as close to the small space heater as he can get he leans over the tall wooden desk and goes back to work sketching a design he’s promised to one of next week’s clients. They'd requested an anchor and Louis had had to pretend to sneeze in order to keep them from noticing his eye roll.
It’s just that anchors are so overdone he thinks, as he forces his pen down onto the paper in front of him. He attempts to draw with some of his original flair but it’s a little hard when he’s so frustrated in the piece in front of him. Recently he’s well enough off that he could have turned away a client like this but the man had said he was a friend of Stan’s dad and Louis had immediately felt too guilty to send him away.
Louis furrows his brow and tries to keep his frustration from distracting him for his work. He’s finally getting to the groove when the bell on the front door tinkles.
Louis flinches at the unexpected noise fumbling with his pen and almost dropping it. When he gets himself under control he looks up to see a tall man standing in the entryway of his shop. The man looks like he’s lost a fight with the storm, he’s dripping water onto the shiny wood floor beneath his feet and his coat looks soaked through. The hood of his coat is pulled up but it looks like it’s done little good because the strands of brownish hair peeking out are soaked through and cling to the stranger's forehead. His appearance is completely normal given the state of the weather outside yet something about him seems sort of… off. Louis can’t quite place it.
“Welcome to Elysium! How can I help you?” Louis calls to him using his best customer service voice.
“Elysium?” The man asks as he moves towards the front desk. Louis looks up to meet his eyes before realizing that he can’t because the man is wearing dark sunglasses. Aha! So, that had been what seemed so weird about his appearance. Who wears sunglasses on a rainy day? Louis wonders, before coaching his face neutral.
Greek Mythos does mention this, fairly often. You just have to read the right texts.
By the by, many rivers are also deities (and/or dragons). First one to mind is the Welsh Gwyn Ap Nudd, associated with the Irish Nuada Silverhand, both a death god and a river dragon.
Men who died were guided by Hermes, women were guided by Hekate.
Styx is the River of Hate, so sacred that the gods swear by it. The Cocytus is the River of Lamentation or Wailing. The Phlegethon is the River of Fire. The Lethe is the River of Forgetfulness. The Acheron is the River of Sadness.
The close mortal bank of the Styx is crowded with the souls of the hopeless dead -- those not buried properly, who the boatman Charon ignores. For those buried well, ferried past the river Styx by Charon, the gates to Hades are guarded by Cerberus, a three-headed dog who allow anyone in but will not let anyone out. The far shore of the Styx is called Erebus, even more crowded with the waiting dead.
The kingdom of Hades is crowded, with Hades on his throne and near him the three judges Minos, Rhadamanthus, and Aeacus, who question and sort the souls.
Leaving Erebus, you pass by a great abyss, the chasm that is the opening to Tartaros. This is the place for evil souls and those who have angered the gods, and also a prison for the Titans. It is a place with iron gates and a bronze floor, guarded by Hundred-Handers (the Hekatonchieres known as Kottos, Briareos, and Gyges). Like Hades and the Rivers, Tartaros is not only a place but a person -- the Titan Tartaros was the father of the monsters Typhon and Echidna. The Furies or Kindly Ones (also known as Erinyes) -- immortal women named Alecto, Tisiphone, and Megaera -- punish the cruel in Hades, and also sometimes pursue wrongdoers on earth. There is no sun in Tartaros, the only light coming from a man bound for eternity to a flaming wheel in the sky -- Ixion, the first murderer.
The souls everywhere else, in the vast majority of Hades known as the fields of Asphodel, were neither happy nor sad. Empty. Lukewarm. Faceless, nameless shades. They all eventually have drunk from the River Lethe, which wanders through the place, and makes them forget their names and lives and shapes and faces. They all just stand there, and wait. They wait for all eternity, shifting, wandering, empty.
Those who have been more good than bad go to the Elysian Fields, or Elysium. Immortal ease, no snow or winter, no rain, warm breezes from the Ocean River... three harvests a year. There is no more beautiful place in the underworld, and it is mostly empty. Or, it was, until the coming of Persephone to the Underworld.
The fields to which Hades came unseen and from which he took Persephone down to his Underworld were called the fields of Eleusis. When Demeter and Hekate found Persephone and ended the Long Winter of the world, the place where they emerged were those same fields. Later, a new set of rites were created in honor of Persephone and Demeter and Dionysus (also known as Libera, Ceres, and Liber) -- mystery rites by which those who are faithful and good can enter into the blessed peace of Elysium after death. These are known as the Eleusinian Mysteries, sacred to Dionysos and Persephone alike.

As you can see, there is a lot of depth and complexity to it. Much recommended for further delving.
