I’d just like to say I hope Julia Fox chokes on a bag of dicks.
That is all.

Golly, did they finish that book with a bad impression of Anne, or something? 🤔
I can’t find the review now but I remember reading a review on Julia Fox’s dual biography of Katherine and Juana, and it ended on the note it was simply a shame that Katherine didn’t live to personally see Anne Boleyn’s execution. I remember this often because while it’s not an isolated incident of this kind of vicious and stomach-turning misogyny, it’s one that struck me as especially grotesque.
And the Katherine who could sob that she had barely enough cash to clothe herself, and who professed that she had 'suffered martyrdom' for her country and her family, managed to secure sufficient resources to buy books for her beloved confessor. She also berated her chamberlain for trying to stop her from selling plate 'to satisfy the follies of the friar', as Fuensalida put it.

This is what I mean, this seems so cynical ?? It’s like at the price of portraying her as someone in-control at all times that she must be in control her emotions at all times too, to the point of only displaying them strategically.

And then there’s this.... clearly her tears did move him.... because he said something awkward and then left? That sounds less like they ‘moved’ him and more like they made him uncomfortable. Esp. since their private interactions from this point on are decidedly more barbed , angrier, whilst they’re treating each other ‘courteously’ in public.
I’m sorry to keep bringing up Anne Boleyn, but it’s such a sharp distinction in their historiographies here that I have to mention — I cannot recall a time when Henry abruptly leaving Anne is ever interpreted as ‘he did this because he was so emotionally moved’.
