This seems like a ton of fun! I know that nobody's asked me, but I wanna answer some of these anyway lol. Today, I'll be answering these on behalf of Kunio, the main character from my upcoming romance novel, The Tengu And The Angel!

Leaves: Definitely fall for Kunio. His fashion sense can best be described as a blend of 90s punk and goblincore, and there's a lot of reds, heavy sweaters and jackets, and leaf patterns in his wardrobe. He also really likes autumnal flavours, like apples, and cinnamon, and his all-time favourite food is apple pie. On top of that, he's very fond of birds, especially crows

Cloudy Day: Bad mood? What bad mood? If something is bothering Kunio, he won't let it show at all. He'll hold it in and pretend that everything's fine because he doesn't wanna worry his friends, or his boyfriend. Even if you ask, he'll deny that anything's wrong, to the point where he won't admit it until he breaks down. It's a habit he's having a hard time breaking.

The Tengu And The Angel intro: Cirno Cirno Cirno by TaNaBaTa. Yes, I know, it's a dinosaur of a song made for the Touhou fandom, but I think the lyrics really fit Kunio's struggles with his feelings for Nathaniel, his love interest, and his struggle to adapt to his new, safe adult life. One of the lines in particular, 'What does it mean to be an adult? Please tell me so I don't have to pretend to be stronger than this' is something I can legitimately imagine him saying

Outro: I'm Glad You're Evil Too by Pinnochio-P. This song perfectly describes Kunio and Nathaniel's relationship. They're two traumatised young men who are terrified of falling in love, but then, when they do, they realise that being in love isn't as scary as they thought it would be, and even if the world's a shitty place, and they can't do anything about it, they're not gonna stress over it, because they're happy with the life they've built together.

Hey, thanks for the tag! Let's do this! These are from my upcoming debut novel, The Tengu And The Angel, narrated from Kunio's POV:

I wish I could say that there was a big fight on my eighteenth birthday, where I called her out for all her bullshit and slammed the door, but there wasn’t. My eighteenth birthday was four months ago, on the fifth of May, but I didn’t have enough money to leave yet, so I had to stay at home, and save some more. As soon as I had enough, I quit my job, packed a bag, and left home while she was in bed hungover. I shouldn’t have bothered with the note–It’s not like she would have cared where I was going, or why, but I thought she deserved an explanation. I didn’t want to vanish without a trace.

“That’s what they say,” he sighs, “Theo is…Difficult, but he saved my life when we were kids. When I was fourteen, I tried to overdose on ibuprofen, because no one loved me, and no one wanted me. He was the one who called an ambulance for me, not our foster carers. They didn’t care whether I lived or died.”

Tama rubs her temples. “So you should be. Theo’s a prick,” she sighs, “Layla and I only put up with him because we feel bad for him. He’s had a really rough life, and he doesn’t have any friends aside from Nathaniel, but I’ll be honest with you, he doesn’t have any friends because he’s a whiny fucking manchild.”

Layla’s face falls in silent horror, as she realises just how badly she’s fucked up. “You’re right. I’m sorry, Kunio, this was all my fault,” she says quietly, “I never should have touched you.”

Nathaniel shakes his head. “Theo, that’s not what I meant.”

“Then what did you mean? Because no matter how you say it, you’re abandoning me! You’re leaving me all alone!”

He loses the courage to finish his sentence, turning away from me, and that’s when I realise that I want to finish it for him. I want to cup his rosy cheeks, and kiss his sweet face. God, I love him. How could I even try to deny it anymore? He’s my everything. He took my cold, dead, bitter heart, and he breathed life, and love into it. He showed me that the world isn’t such a shitty place after all.

He lets out a deep ‘mm’, before consulting his clipboard again. “How about I put this another way? If one person drowns in a swimming pool, and another person drowns in the sea, who’s more dead?”

“And what about this?”

My tongue slips onto the open air. In the center of it rests a short gold barbell piercing with a top fashioned to resemble a rose. Without pause, his attention is stolen from my scars. Alarm fades into contemplative interest. He cups my head in his hands, posing me this way and that to savor all angles possible.

“You like?” I tease once he lets go. “It came free with the trauma.”

Before I can think to stand, Cal chains herself to my wrist. The weight of her grip speaks miles for the heat of her gaze. But if I know anything about my sister, it’s that she never holds her anger for very long. It doesn’t quite fit in her hands.

Her voice is lower than a whisper. “You look…”

“Like hell,” Ilya finishes.

“Thank you.” I take out a cigarette from my back pocket. “Anyone got a light?”

Some feet away and still in his chair, Pierre’s head is cradled between his arms. His notebook is open underneath, and his laptop has gone black.

“You’ve been mighty quiet over there, jester.”

He only sighs.

I don’t have to do this. I don’t have to.

I bite my tongue at the sobs surging up my throat. This mask weighs heavy on my face. Tears and feathers make a mess of my vision. I glare through it all, jaded queen on her fucking throne, and face the man sitting next to Pierre.

He wears no costume. No mask. Only a gothic suit with a red carnation pinned to his lapel. His features are a blur as he turns to the other woman attached to his hip. She pokes his chest. He lends her his ear. She wants far more, stealing a kiss from his cheek. My heart falls silent.

She averts her gaze. He catches her chin. Eye contact. Eye contact.

Eyes.

Ilya’s eyes haven’t left me all night. Every breath, every act is tied to his red eyes peering at me through the guise of his cards. I shut my eyes and he’s there across the table, domineering silhouette streaked by a neon sign to his back while the ongoing storm rattles the windowpanes.

Whiskey cries where I left it and hour ago: scantily held and straight from the bottle. I toss what remains over my shoulder with a sigh.

Suppress something long enough and it becomes a religion.

“The act or the suppressant?” Arthur asks in my mind.

I can’t answer.

“Finally got tired of wearing that mask haven’t you?”

My head snaps to the direction of the entrance. Upon seeing who it is, my face falls flat.

“I was wondering when it would slip,” he finishes when there’s only a foot separating us.

I spare him a glance. “What mask?”

He huffs in his side-mouthed grin. Shoving his hands into his coat pockets, he joins me in leaning against the wall.

“You know, little miss angel face. All bloody lips and kerosene doused in cherry and vanilla perfume. That whole getup. I was wonderin’ when you’d get tired.”

Name: Kunio Yoshioka

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Occupation: Antique store employee/artist

Likes: Tabletop RPGs, birds, especially crows, Japanese mythology, particularly tales about tengu, his artwork, his grandfather, and his cooking

Dislikes: His mother, being touched, especially by women, boy bands, British food, and food waste

Blood Type: O

Ethnicity: Japanese-British

Sexuality: Gay. Homoromantic homosexual lol

Relatives: Ryunosuke Yoshioka (Grandfather), Nozomi Yoshioka (Mother)

Personality: Passionate, sanguine, and hot-tempered, Kunio knows exactly what he wants in life, and he'll stop at nothing to get it. Having suffered through an abusive childhood, he feels entitled to a perfect life now that he's officially an adult, and he'll do whatever it takes to make it happen. He doesn't have many loved ones, but he's very protective of the few that he has, especially his best friend and crush, Nathaniel. He is highly imaginative, and thinks of himself as a tengu to cope with the after-effects of his childhood. He thinks of his child self as having died, and his adult self as being reborn as a strong, confident tengu, but hidden emotions and trauma lie behind Kunio's strong, passionate exterior.

I think this captures Kunio's frustration with his mental illness. He's messed up, and he knows it, but he hates the fact that his C-PTSD is triggered so easily, and by such mundane things, like smoking, and the dark. He feels like he doesn't have the right to be triggered by those things, especially since he's not being abused anymore

I'm Only Just Getting Started (Nashimoto-P)

I listened to this song once, and knew that it was for Kunio. Despite all of the shitty things he's been through, he's determined to make a better life for himself, and that is literally what this song is about lol

Searching For Your Love (Kikuo)

A song I knew was the perfect fit for Kunio straight away. It's about a now grown-up child of an abusive mother, who still longs for their mother's love. Even though Kunio would never admit it, there's always gonna part of him that wishes that his mother loved him

Cirno Cirno Cirno (TaNaBaTa)

I mentioned this one before, but yeah, perfect fit for Kunio. Really captures his struggles with not being able to tell Nathaniel, his love interest and best friend, how he feels, as well as his struggle to adapt to adulthood

Starless Night (Olivia Lufkin)

A song from NANA? Yes, because believe it or not, The Tengu And The Angel was inspired by NANA. When I first started writing it, I was thinking, 'NANA, but with a happy ending'. A song about two damaged people who can't fix each other, but are deeply in love and want to be together anyway? That's just Kunio and Nathaniel's entire relationship lol

Name: Nathaniel Azrael Bythesea

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Occupation: Fashion designer/owner of a Victorian gothic online store called Black Rose

Blood Type: A

Likes: Victorian novels and fashion, tea, white roses, tabletop RPGs, his boyfriend's cooking, electro-swing

Dislikes: Christmas, dogs, especially pitbulls, horror movies, the beach, being yelled at

Sexuality: Demiromantic homosexual

Ethnicity: Black-British, but has Haitian ancestry on his mother's side

Personality: Described as 'gentle, yet radiant' (By my beta reader lol), Nathaniel is an extraordinarily kind and gentle person, who goes out of his way to help others, especially those he feels he can relate to. Having been abandoned by his mother at the age of three, and grown up in fostercare, he often feels as if there's no point in him being alive, as nobody loved him, or wanted him as a child. He is an excessive people-pleaser, and his self worth is mostly dependent on what others think of him. He believes that if he can make everyone like him, then maybe someday, someone will love him, however, this belief has lead to him being trapped in a toxic relationship with his ex 'best friend', Theo, who is emotionally abusive towards him. Will he ever realise his own self-worth, and escape Theo's clutches?

I just sent The Tengu And The Angel off to be formatted. It's almost ready for publication now. I'm this close to being an actual published author, and I'm so excited I could burst. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I made an aesthetic board for Kunio And Nathaniel, the MCs of my novel, The Tengu And The Angel. Of course I had to include a tengu and an angel, their respective symbols, as well as white rose tea (They're both big tea lovers, and Nathaniel loves white roses), apple pie, because Kunio makes it twice in the novel, and a shot of the Taihei River Festival, because it's a major plot point near the ending lol

Anyone else ever wonder what would happen if their books got a fandom? Like, it is my ultimate dream to create something that inspires a fandom, and I often think about how things would go down if my books got fandoms. Like:

-What would people call the ships? For The Tengu And The Angel, I think Kunio and Nathaniel, the main, and ONLY canon ship would be called Natnio, or possibly TenguTenshi (Cuz tenshi means angel, and Nathaniel's whole motif is that he's an angel

-Who would be the most popular character?

-Would any of my characters be turned into tumblr sexymen, or women? I think Nathaniel would. He's got all of the hallmarks of a tumblr sexyman lol

The only canon ship in The Tengu And The Angel is Kunio x Nathaniel, and IDK if people would wanna ship anything else lol. I think people would call it TenguTenshi (Cuz tenshi means angel in Japanese, and Kunio is Japanese). Or possibly Natnio, or Kunathaniel

Who do you think the most popular character would be?

Probably Nathaniel. He's pure tumblr sexyman material. He dresses like a Victorian gentleman, drinks tea all the time, and he loves white roses. He's also an emotionally damaged soft boi who really needs a hug

Would you prefer fanart, or fanfiction, about your OCs?

Both. Both would be a dream come true

If your WIP was made into a show, what actor or voice actor would you want to play your main character?

For Kunio, I'd want him to be voiced by Kiyotaka Furushima. He'd be very good at projecting Kunio's 'fuck this shitty world' energy

Sometimes I talk to my IRL friends and family, and they say something, or do something and I'm like, 'Oh, that reminds me of something Kunio and/or Nathaniel would do!' and then they get confused because I don't know anyone with those names IRL. Aaaaand then they're like, 'oh, you mean, the characters from your gay tengu book?' Yes, mom, the characters from my gay tengu book.
