Mage oppression and Possession
The Mage Rebellion, possessions and mages resorting to blood magic are inevitable seeing How the Chantry and circle handle magic.
This is a (partially intended [ex. Meredith] ) sort of a self-fullfilling prophecy made by the Chantry/Templars.
The Chantry’s power is based on and supports fear of mages. Its main motto is ‘‘ Magic exists to serve man and never to rule over him’’ how would it survive if magic were eradicated?

The situation, isolation and mental abuse mages suffer in the circle.

Personal Analysis under the cut
1.(seclusion with little access to (the healing/comforting beauty of nature. No windows. Can’t see the sun, moon, feel the air)
2. The general indoctrination. The mages hesitate/are threatened not to have opinions on their situation, living in a half-world and not knowing what the real world is like. This could also apply to the difficulties circle mages face in the outside world from not being taught real-life skills.
3. Mage children are taken from their homes and their loved ones and are disowned and in some cases are shunned by the ones that loved them. They are not allowed to (re)build familial and romantic ties. They grow up being taught that they cannot have lovers, get married, have children.
1 and 3. Could be the Mage children adjusting to the circle’s reality.
4. Isolation and possession. Demons are the Angels of pain and the mages reach their final breaking strain and become Abominations. Or they are broken, go insane first and allow themselves to be possessed by demons.
5. Wingbeat = freedom, heartbeat = life
6. Mages having their minds and spirits broken from the mental abuse they suffer and are constantly brought down.
7. (Fear of) Tranquility/Templars
8. Resorting to blood magic or being killed for fighting back.
9. Pacts with demons
The last laugh is on you, Mocking you (it ends badly, used further against their plight) To the oblivion (are forgotten as humans, die broken, only remembered as abominations)

another thought i had during the mage rebellion there must’ve been like an insane baby boom. like those ex-circle mages were probs fucking like rabbits and with templars too busy snorting the red lyrium nose beers to punt mage babies to the chantry there’s just a surplus of babies in southern thedas.
