You wore the baby blue dress, adorned your eyes with waterproof mascara, and got ready to go out. Your son shouted from the kitchen, “Mom, I packed one more hotteok for you. Have it with Dad. He will love it.”
Smiling at how thoughtful of a young man your son had grown up to be, you walked out of the bedroom to caress his head. “I will eat it. Don’t worry so much.”
The boy gave you a hug in return, promising to visit you with his wife sometime soon. After all, the girl was pregnant and would need as much care from you as possible during her pregnancy.
With that, you walked out, ready to meet your husband for his birthday lunch, which was packed in the heat-retaining bag with you. It was almost an hour’s drive to the place from where you lived. The commute never got easier, no matter the time or the day.
You got into the taxi; you were never one to learn driving. It was just not needed, as someone at your house was always there to help you commute, be it your husband or your son. So at times like this, you felt the absence of the skill.
But it was not like life didn’t go on. It was not something you wanted to change at this age. You were scared of banging the car into some random tree and feeling the wrath of your husband for causing damage to the love of his life, Vivian. Yes, that indeed was the name of the car. And yes, it was the great idea of your husband to name it so. Some might say you both didn’t have a daughter, but he would like to disagree with them, because you both obviously had Vivian. You sometimes suspected he loved that godforsaken car more than you.
The man was shameless enough to agree with those accusations, but he was too cute to argue with, so you let him be.
The time passed inside the car thinking about your husband, the times you both had spent together, all those rocky yet satisfying moments, and all those nights you both ditched all your friends and family to stay in together, basking in each other’s presence. It was one of those feelings that made you warm and mushy inside, no matter what.
----
“Do you think we will be together forever?” Minghao asks you. It's been a year since you both tied the knot after dating for two, and yet you still feel like your breath stops every time you see him. He just has that effect on you; it's not reasonable, but it's true.
“What do you mean? You are stuck with me. I will hold onto you no matter how much you try to escape!” you say as you pull him in for a kiss.
Satisfied with your answer, he happily goes back to doodling in his diary.
----
As you walked into the hospital, you gave the guard a kind smile, which he returned. After all, when you frequent a place long enough, you end up becoming acquainted with almost everyone who works there.
Quickly, you walked to your husband's cabin. As you entered the room, you could hear your lover whining at the nurse about something, a sound that immediately ceased as his eyes found you.
Without wasting any time, he stretched his arm towards you, his eyes asking for you to hold him. As you embraced him, the nurse walked out, giving you both privacy.
“Happy birthday, my love,” you said quietly, as he rested his head on your chest.
“What did you bring me?” came a quiet whine from underneath you. Laughing, you let go of the man and began to show him, one by one, the feast you had prepared for him.
The minute he laid his eyes upon them, his face broke into a childlike smile, waiting for you to complete plating his food so he could enjoy them.
After all, it had been a long time since his doctors allowed him to have something you brought for him. Within seconds of putting the food on the plate, it was gone. Not that you were complaining, but it was still a record for the man. Never had you seen him devour your cooking this fast.
“Slow down,” you had told him, but the man had all his attention focused on the food, too much to care for his wife.
The nurse didn’t let you stay in the room long after that. The authorities were a bit too strict about maintaining the rules for your liking, but it was okay.
With a last meaningful glance at each other, you exited the room to meet his doctor to complete the procedures for his discharge.
----
“I can’t do this anymore, Y/N,” your husband cries out loud from your embrace, and you hold him, rocking gently.
“But you promised you would hold on. What will I do without you?” you say, trying to hold back your tears.
Looking at you, he wipes the stray tears that have escaped. “I can’t live like this. It’s too much. I’m three surgeries in already, and I don’t see any hope anymore. Maybe this is how it was supposed to be. Plus, this place feels too suffocating for me to be in.”
Not being able to come up with a rebuttal, you just stay as you are, trying to understand why it has to be him who goes through so much pain while simultaneously pleading with some supernatural being to give you all his pain.
That night you both spend crying. But what has to be done will be done.
----
Minghao had been dancing most of his life. Even after he stopped being a professional dancer, he was a dancer at heart. The constant heart attacks that resulted in him being permanently attached to life support, along with the surgeries, killed him inside. They slowly murdered the dancer in him. He lost his sense of freedom, something he treasured the most.
It was then he realized nothing was worth his freedom, not even his life. So there you were, arguing with the doctor to let him be discharged, even though he was at high risk of having another heart attack and should be constantly monitored.
“I understand that, sir, but this is what my husband wants, so I would like you to prepare his discharge papers,” you said, persistent.
“Sure, ma’am. It will be done by tomorrow,” the doctor said reluctantly after realizing there was no winning with you.
After completing the procedure, you went back to your husband to give him the good news about going back home the next day. He looked happy. You could see it in his eyes, and you were happy for him.
If only you had known that the next day you would take your husband away from that hospital for good, but not in the way you had hoped to.
That night, Minghao suffered another attack, one that was hellbent on taking him away from you. It ended up succeeding.
As you sat there at the funeral home, beside the beautiful picture of your smiling husband, and with your son greeting the guests coming to pay their respects, you couldn’t help the tears from falling as you thought of the happy memories you both had shared and how even eternity was too little time for you to spend with him.

The End

It was one of those feelings that made you warm and mushy inside, no matter what.

you apply the finishing touches to your makeup, admiring how you looked in your silver sequined two-piece set and matching seven inch heels. to your surprise, you could already hear the loud atmosphere from the dressing room - and it wasn’t even 11 o’clock yet.
“it’s gonna be a good night,” you think to yourself, smiling to yourself at the thought of you covered in hundred dollar bills.
before you head out, you scroll through your phone one last time, looking at your social media feeds. double tapping on a friend’s post, you see a notification appear at the top of your screen.
minghao: hey, are you working tonight? i’m back in town for a show, but i need to relax and see you 😩
you bite down on your lip, your eyes rereading the message and your brain taking in every word. minghao is a famous model, somewhere in the world he was always in a show, walking the runway for all of the luxury brands. his handsome looks and his insanely gorgeous figure made him the it-boy every designer and photographer dreamed of.
you first met minghao at the club a few months ago, when he came for a magazine shoot and his friends decided to take him out. the second you laid eyes on each other as you were walking around the main floor, he took you by the hand and soon you were dancing for him in front of everyone. it didn’t take long to convince minghao about getting a room, your body clenching around nothing as you think about how big and hard he was in those jeans when you started to grind on him, thanking the heavens that your outfit made it possible to feel everything.
😈: hao! yeah, i’m gonna be working tonight. pay for a room as soon as you get here and i’ll be waiting 😏
minghao: i’ll try and get there within the hour. see you soon babe ❤️
you quickly toss your phone to the side when you hear your name being called, realizing that you would just have to kill some time before you got your main event.
——
as soon as they get through the doors (an hour later like he said), minghao walks in with his entourage, his dress shirt buttons deliciously exposing some of his toned chest, and his black distressed jeans accenting his legs. met with some screams, he greets his crowd as his people make sure he’s given enough space.
the music has switched a bit, and more sultry, intimate tunes fill the building. your hips rotating in rhythm as mushroom chocolate’s chorus comes on, playing with the straps of your top as you flirt with the customer in front of you.
so immersed in your own world, you don’t even realize that minghao has finally spotted you and approaches your space, sitting down a few inches away from your audience. your eyes for a split second reveal your shock and surprise, and minghao can’t help the smirk that crawls on his face.
“did you think i wouldn’t show up? i’m hurt, my pretty little doll. you know i’m a man of my word.” you stop dancing and walk towards him, gingerly sitting his lap, both your legs on opposite sides of his.
“mmm, trust me, i know you are, you know it’s just been a minute since i’ve seen you hao.. you look different,” you trail off, eyes wandering all over his body. did his muscles get bigger or something?
“good different or bad different?” he asks.
but before you can respond, someone clears their throat. the person sitting across from you and minghao stares in disbelief. right… you still had someone to “take care” of. you sigh, kind of wishing that you had gone straight to a room so your time with minghao would’ve been interruption-free.
“give me a sec, hao,” you say crawling off his lap, missing the contact and approaching the other customer. “i’m sorry, but it looks like i have to cut this short,” you say feigning a fake disappointment. “but, if you decide to wait for me, i can guarantee it’ll be worth the wait,” you say taking the cash on the floor, bending over in front of the two, teasing them. obviously you don’t notice, but minghao bites his lip at the sight, hoping that he would get to see that again in the next few minutes.
when you’re done, you take him by the hand and the lead the way up the stairs to the vip rooms. you stop at the first empty one you see, brushing the curtains away as he lets go of your hand to face you.
“you never answered my question, y’know,” he says staring directly into your eyes. you stare back at him a little confused, already forgetting what he had said earlier.
he laughs, “wow, you forgot already? what’s going on doll?”
“nothing,” you say chuckling back at him, “i just, have a lot on my mind now.. and it’s mostly you..”
“oh? care to tell me more?” he says, putting his hand on your waist, bringing you closer to him.
“i guess to answer your question, it’s a good different… you’re always hot, but tonight, hao? you’re fucking irresistible,” you swipe your tongue across your lips, biting down on your skin.
“really now?” he smiles, his lips inches away from yours. but before you can say anything else, his mouth crashes on your soft, pillowy lips, trying to take in as much as he could of you.
you put your arms around his neck, trying to bring him in closer as you match his energy and enthusiasm. minghao’s hands begin to roam your body, especially your breasts. he couldn’t help but admire how temptingly delicious they looked in your bra piece. you moan into his touch at every little trace and brush, craving for more.
“mm, minghao!” you whimper when he get adventurous and delicately touches your crotch, and you clench yet again around nothing. you continue to moan out his name in bliss and neediness, but after a minute, an idea pops in your head.
“m-minghao, you wanna take this to the couch?” you say trying to snap him out of his daze for a second.
without another word, he sweeps you off your feet and carries you to the couch, your mouths still on each others. when he finally feels his legs against the edge of the furniture, he sits down, placing you on his lap.
not wanting to wait any longer, minghao takes off your bra, slowly revealing the top half of your body. he hisses at the sight, nearly groaning out at how the colorful lights in the room added to the glow that covered your body.
“you’re such a masterpiece,” he says as he once again guides his hands toward your body, this time paying extra attention to you chest.
while he was focused on that, you took to the opportunity to unbutton his jeans and pull his zipper down. he realizes where you wanted to go, and helps you get them, as well as his boxers off. once they both pool at his ankles, you smile when you can finally get to what you want after all the foreplay.
as you sink down on him, you both let out a loud moan feeling of being inside each other. “g-god, fuck,” you whisper into his ears clawing down his back, pressing into his chest. even though the music has long been forgotten to you, somehow your hips naturally grind to the rhythm. minghao notices and takes hold of your waist, guiding them in the right places. “god, you feel so good, baby,” he groans.
slowly but surely, you begin to feel a good pressure build in your core, your whimpering getting more frantic. “ahhh shit, shit, minghao, m-minghao,” you begin to move faster wanting to release all over him. and when he hits the right spot in you, you can no longer hold back, and you nearly scream, coming all over the lower half of his body.
you try and catch your breath, not wanting to come down from your high, but remembering you still had a job to do. “fuck, i needa go back downstairs soon,” you say getting up to find your bra top.
“do you have to go back now?” he asks, pulling his boxers and pants back up.
“well, not right this second,” you respond fastening your straps. “did you wanna stay a little longer?” you smile sweetly.
“yeah,” he says leaning back on the couch, returning your sultry gaze. “haven’t seen you dance for me in awhile,” he plams himself over his pants, already getting worked up at the memory.
you walk towards the pole, your arm holding onto the pole. “then minghao, be prepared for a dance you’ll never ever want to forget,” you say hooking your legs to spin on the pole.

Living in a city sometimes felt constricting. For the longest time, you always dreamed of living in a major city where there was always something going on. However, coming from home work to loud shouting, blaring car horns, and constant movement all around got overwhelming. And you weren't the only one that felt that way.
You were grateful for the opportunities thrown your way. However, sometimes you just wished you take a step into peace and quiet.
It was Minghao that suggested that everyone should take a trip to the woods. He found a company where you could rent out a company, which was perfect for you and your group of 14 friends. But it seems you miscounted. This whole time, you had no idea that Minghao was planning on bringing his girlfriend as his plus one. You didn't even know you were allowed plus ones!
At the moment, you were in the kitchen washing the dishes after the meal Minghao, Joshua, and Mingyu cooked up together. Minghao, Seokmin, Hoshi, and Cheol took it upon themselves to start a bonfire. They believed it was the only appropriate way to kickoff your weekend getaway. Well, Minghao wasn't helping much. He was more so keeping his girlfriend company, having his arms wrapped around her and holding her close. It made you sick to your stomach.
"You know, if you stare long enough, they might get an idea you're watching them like a hawk," Wonwoo commented.
You didn't even noticed he slipped into the kitchen. However, you noticed he had yellow rubber gloves on and was there to keep you company. To be honest, you wanted to dot he dishes by yourself to sort through your thoughts, but you knew Wonwoo was always a good person to confide in. You smiled appreciatively before stepping aside, allowing him to have access to the pile that filled the sink.
"So, I'm taking it you didn't know she was coming?" He asked. "No, not at all. I didn't know until I got out of Cheol's car," you confessed, a hint of sadness in your voice. "Trust me, none of us knew except Minghao. This was apparently his idea of trying to get us to meet her." "By tricking and trapping us here?"
You both shared a laugh at that idea. It made you feel a bit better that you weren't the only one blindsided. Normally, Minghao was so upfront with the group about his feelings, so you were confused why he's kept her hidden for so long. You only knew of her by him mentioning that he was going on a date with a new girl that Dino set him up with. And the poor maknae already got an earful from you.
"I always thought you two would end up together," Wonwoo commented.
His gaze was locked on the dishes submerged underneath the bubbly water. Your gaze was locked on him. Your eyes were a bit wide, not sure if you heard him correctly. However, he glanced out of his peripheral to see your eyes locked on him. "So you're not denying that you like him? Or did I just make things awkward because you guys are best friends?"
You were at a loss of words. How the fuck did Wonwoo figure it out? Who told him? Or were you that painfully obvious.
There was no denying that you had feelings for Minghao. How could he when he treated the world with kindness? How could anyone not be attracted to him when he looked like he was crafted by the Gods? His visuals and his heart of gold set your heart ablaze easily. But you two were friends. Nothing more, nothing less.
He made that part obvious by being with someone else.
Wonwoo let out a chuckle. Putting the last dish in the drying rack, he grabbed the towel to dry off his hands. "Don't worry, y/n. Your secret is safe with me," he vowed. He pressed a kiss to your forehead before he walked away, leaving you motionless in the kitchen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone was gathered outside in a small circle around the fire. Seugncheol and Hoshi looked at the fire with pride at the fire they created. All the rest of the guys were chatting, either drinking beer or coffee depending on the guy. You were sandwiched between Jun and Wonwoo.
Unfortunately, you had a front-row view of Minghao and his girlfriend. Her heart twitched with ache as she sat on his lap. Every few seconds, he would take the time to ensure the blanket was wrapped around her body.
"Stare long enough and he's going to notice," Wonwoo whispered. "Or worse, she might."
If you could, you'd hit him on the shoulder. But it would cause too much attention to the others, which knowing them, they'd pry until your secret was let out. You silently thanked him though as his voice caused you to turn your head.
"Could always just blame the fatigue from traveling." "Wow, look who is using their brain," Wonwoo teased.
You rolled your eyes before leaning back fully in the lawn chair. You had your legs curled up to your chest. Sure, you were decked out in sweatpants, a hoodie with a long sleeve shirt underneath, and a beanie, but it wasn't enough to keep you warm. The fire wasn't aiding at all.
"Geez, y/n. You're practically turning blue," Jun chimed in.
Before you could protest, you were being lifted into the man's lap. You stared up at him, disbelief that he actually moved you but also that he pulled off a move like that. Where was the shy boy you met a few years ago?
He winked at you before wrapping the blanket around you. You weren't sure where it had appeared from but then put two and two together when you saw a pouting Mingyu making his way back to the group from inside.
"Hey! That's not fair," he whined out. "Oh come on, Gyu. The baby is called," Jun called out, motioning down towards you.
Mingyu didn't even notice that you had migrated from your spot to Jun's lap. He softened his pout at the sight of you bundled up like a burrito, your face barely showing thanks to the beanie and dark blanket.
"Okay, you got me there. Y/n, is too adorable to get made at," Mingyu chuckled. He swiftly made his way back to his seat, placing himself where you used to sit which was beside Wonwoo. Much better for everyone. "Sweetheart, do you want a s'more? I'm a pro!"
You nearly popped out of Jun's lap in excitement at the offer. The guys around you laughed as Jun wrapped his arms around you, tightening his grip slightly so you wouldn't go rolling off of his lap.
"I'm taking that as a yes," Jun laughed before kissing the crown of your head.
Your eyes widened slightly at Jun's actions. You peered up at him but all he did was wink. Wonwoo was sitting back in amusement, as the rest of the group didn't really seem to blink twice at Jun's antics. Jun was the type of guy who opened up more as he got comfortable around people.
Yet, you couldn't help but ponder on it. Was it a friendly kiss? You couldn't deny the blush that was coating your cheeks as Jun openly showed rare affection in front of the rest of the group. Did it mean something more?
"Hold on, y/n, how do you like your marshmallows?" Your internal investigation was interrupted by Mingyu calling out to you. You turned over to see Mingyu trying to get the marshmallow to stick to the skewer. Fearing the worst, Wonwoo was on supervising duty.
"As gooey as possible! I don't want it to drop into the fire, but get really close," you smirked, knowing it would be a challenge for him. "Whatever the princess wants, she gets," he declared.
You and Jun chuckled as Mingyu got to work.
These were the moments that you longed for since the trip was proposed. For the first time since arrival, you felt relaxed. It helped that Jun was allowing you to curl in his lap like you were a cat.
For Minghao, this was a moment he didn't expect. His eyes were locked on you and Jun, trying to figure out the puzzle between the four - Jun, Mingyu, Wonwoo, and you. Was there something going on? Did he miss something? "Babe? Baby? Helloooo, Earth to Hao?"
He jumped as his girlfriend called out to him. She had a slight pout on her lips as she gazed up at him. Minghao blinked a couple to reorient himself before he finally looked down at the woman in his lap. Woah, I've never just zoned out like that before.
"I was telling you all about what Sasha told me the other day. Weren't you paying attention to me?"
Part of him longed to be apart of the group. I mean, that's how envisioned this trip going. He thought everyone could come together as one group, not break into two smaller groups. Sure, that happened sometimes with a group as large as this but he didn't think that would happen when they were all meant to be hanging out together now. But he didn't want to be a rude person, so he quickly shook his head.
"Sorry, sweetheart. I think the fatigue of driving today is starting to catch up to me."
She raised an eyebrow and just stared at him for a moment. It was like she was trying to decipher if he was lying or not. However, she just shrugged before talking more about her inner circle.
Has she even talked to my friends once since arriving? Did she even make an effort to do so?
It made Minghao curious, especially when you, his best friend, were able to easily blend into his friend group. He even thought you were better friends with some of the other guys than he was. But that was just a testament to what a great person you are.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One by one, the group began to dwindle and head inside for sleep. You were still outside with Jun, Mingyu, and Wonwoo whereas Minghao and his girlfriend were inside in the kitchen. He was probably making his nightly tea to help ease him to sleep.
"You're welcome, you know," Wonwoo announced.
Picking your head up off Jun's lap, you raised an eyebrow. You were getting sleepy yourself, so you were contemplating going inside or staying a bit longer. However, Wonwoo's statement woke you up and caught your attention.
Chuckling at your confused state, he sat up a bit straighter. Jun and Mingyu shared a knowing look which just further drew in your curiosity.
"Oh you know, for making Hao jealous?" Wonwoo explained. Your eyes widened as you glanced between the three guys before landing on Wonwoo. Your eyes narrowed on him, about to pounce but was eased down by Jun's hold. Note to self: never discredit Jun's strength again.
"You promised not to tell," you hissed. "Angel, it's not hard to put the pieces together," Mingyu added. "Yeah, I mean, we kind of knew you might have a thing for him but seeing you be a bit quieter around the two of them just confirmed."
You dramatically threw your head back. That's it. Your life is over.
"I think I speak for the rest of the guys when we thought you two would end up together."
Your head instantly sprung back. You groaned slightly from the head rush you caused yourself. Jun snickered before allowing his fingers to trace against your arm, comforting you.
"Don't just be mean and say shit like that, Jun." At least Wonwoo didn't deliberately spill your secret, I guess.
You just didn't know you were that obvious to the others.
"Y/n, I mean it. You guys have a special bond. Not only is it apparent that you care about him on a deep level, but he does for you too. I guess we all just thought you were close friends, but we all saw how your personality shifted when she started coming around." "But he's not into me, guys. If he was, he would have said something by now." "Do you think maybe he was waiting for you to say something first?"
You frowned slightly at that idea. I mean, as much as you were waiting for Minghao to confess, you could have confessed as well.
SMACK
You looked over to see Jun and Wonwoo glaring at Mingyu between them. Mingyu was rubbing his arm, looking at you apologetically. The sight alone caused you to smile and relax a bit.
Deciding it was time to go inky ou tapped on Jun's arms. Getting the hint, he loosened his arms from around you so you could stand up. You stretched for a second.
"I guess we'll never know, boys. But what I do know is that I am exhausted and ready to shower to get the smoke smell off of me."
A chorus of goodnights echoed behind you as you said goodnight yourself and head towards the cabin. As much as you loved a good campfire, you didn't want to bring the smell in with you to bed.
Silently, you moved the sliding patio door to the right so you could slip in.
"I don't get why you are so distracted. Back in the city, you always have your attention on me." "I'm sorry you feel that way, but I also was hoping you would take this trip to get to know my friends? I don't want you to feel like you have to just talk to me." "So what? I'm not as important to you as your friends?"
Yikes. That wasn't what you were expecting to talk into you. You figured the house would be silent and you'd be the one making the most noise as you tried to navigate back to your room.
It got quiet as you quickly closed the patio door, not wanting to allow any chilly air or critters into the cabin. You turned around to be greeted by two pairs of eyes staring at you. One was trying to stare into your soul, almost as if she wanted to burn a hole right through you. The other was softer, almost apologetically and shameful.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. I'll see you both in the morning."
As quickly as possible, you scurried out of the kitchen as you desperately wanted to escape the tension inside.
"And you're still paying attention to other people more than you are wanting to pay attention to me!"
While you had your suspicions about what might be driving a wedge between the lovers, you didn't want to stick around and speculate. Now that you had a small group of supporters cheering for you and Minghao to find your way to each other, you were positive they'd fill in the dots if they also overheard anything.
Your priority right now was to get in the shower and curl back underneath the covers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SLAM
You jolted in your bed, your sleep interrupted but he sound of the slamming door. You were sure it had woken up the rest of the house too. Luckily for you and your nosey self, your bedroom window overlooked the front of the house. Quietly, you moved over towards the window.
To your surprise, Minghao's girlfriend was the one responsible for the noise. She had her pink duffle bag thrown over her shoulders. With no Minghao chasing after her. You watched as she climbed into the car already waiting for her, the smoke from the exhaust pipe lifting into the air.
Her voice was muffled but loud yet you couldn't make out the words that she was exchanging with the driver.
Where was Minghao? Was he okay?
You quickly got out of bed, but tried to be light on your feet. In a house of 13 men who were just as nosey as you, you had to be very quiet to not ring any silent alarms. You weren't really in the mood for a line of interrogation seeing that it was in the middle of the night.
Just as you were about to slip out of your room, you heard movement coming from the other side of the door. You halted your movement.
Knock knock knock
You were holding the breath you didn't even know you were holding. From underneath the door, you saw the shadow of two feet. Not much to indicate who was at your door.
"Y/n, I know you're up," Minghao said, his voice soft. He didn't sound angry or heartbreak, especially for a guy who's girlfriend (even if you could still call her that) stormed out of the vacation cabin.
It didn't take much longer for you to grasp the golden doorknob and twist it open.
Before you, you were greeted by the sight of Minghao. He was leaning against the doorway, wearing grey sweatpants and a matching grey hoodie. You were convinced Minghao was created by the universe as an apology for the patriarchy.
"You couldn't have made things easier for me?"
You stepped back, allowing Minghao into your room. He nodded before walking in, heading towards your bed. He sat on the edge but leaned back on his elbows. He was almost too calm for your liking.
Knowing that the other boys may have been alerted by Minghao's presence, you quickly closed the door behind you from prying eyes. You looked at him curiously, your heart pounding. Make what easier for him?
"I may be your best friend, but I am not qualified to be your couples' therapist," you said. "Come on, y/n. I know you're into me. Or are you really going to tell me you are into my best friend without telling me?"
Caught redhanded. Dammit.
You opened your mouth to try to defend yourself but nothing was coming out. Your lack of a response confirmed his suspicions, and actually made him believe Jeonghan who had overheard your conversation with Wonwoo earlier in the kitchen.
"Come here, darlin,'" he called out to you.
Without thinking about it, you made your way over towards the man presented on your bed. With each step towards him, your heart pounded faster. It didn't help that he had his eyes trained on you the entire time.
"I thought best friends weren't supposed to lie to each other," he frowned. "I wouldn't say it was necessarily a lie, Hao."
He scoffed as a playful smile was adorn on his lips. Once you were close enough to him, he pulled you in close. You were standing in between his legs as he peered up at you. His hands slowly began moving up and down your arms.
"But you weren't quite exactly truthful with me. How long did you think you could go without confessing to me?" "As long as possible if it meant keeping our friendship." With one hand on your wrist, the other hand moved up to tuck the loose strands of your hair behind your ear. "Good thing I don't want to be your friend anymore."
You swore you could hear your heart shatter into a million pieces at the statement. What did his girlfriend, or whoever she was now, say to him? "Because I don't think friends can do this."
Pulling gently on your wrist, Minghao seemingly eliminated any space between the two of you. He pulled you close enough so your knee hit your bed before leaning up to kiss you. You couldn't even resist. This was what you always wanted, to be his.
You kissed him back, gently moving so his back hit the bed and you were on top of him. Minghao smiled into the kiss, clearly happy about the reciprocation. His hand left your wrist to hold your way, the other cradling your face. You didn't even have time to move your hands onto him before he moved you over so he laid beside you.
The only sound in the room was the sound of your lips smacking against his. He was just as good of a kisser as you imagined.
Slowly, you pulled back. He offered a gentle smile as you did the same, but he could see there was something on your mind.
"You don't need to worry. I ended things with here. She pointed out that I was eyeing you all night, in the way maybe a best friend shouldn't," he confessed.
Your hands gently moved to cup his face. Hearing that news, you couldn't help but let your smile grow wider.
"Now who was the one who could've made things easier?" You teased.

Summary: Minghao, an art student, has a secret identity, and you’re the only one who knows.
Content: fluff, friends to lovers, college au
I don’t think there’s any warnings needed for this one!
At the shrill sound of a whistle, the kudo athletes spring into motion. You wince as their helmets collide, imagining the sensation. After a few seconds and another whistle, the team relaxes once more, and gather around their head coach. You can’t hear what he says, but a few moments later the team shouts an unintelligible syllable and breaks apart.
You stand up, gathering your things from your seat on the bleachers. Spotting number 8 making his lone way across the field toward you, you skip down the stairs and wait by the fence. “How do you do that?” you ask Minghao as he pulls his helmet off, shaking his shaggy hair and grinning. Even right after a hard practice, he’s infuriatingly beautiful with his half-up man-bun and his caramel skin that shines with sweat.
“It’s easy,” he says, brushing the back of his hand against his forehead. “You get used to it after years of practice.”
“Well, speaking of practice,” you say, “do I finally get to see your magnum opus today?”
He gives a shy grin. “No,” he admits. “She’s not finished yet.”
You are one of the few people who knows the identity of TikTok famous “MoonMuse”, a talented artist who built an almost Banksy-like cult following through mysterious social media posts of beautifully framed art. He’d been commissioned by celebrities, politicians, millionaires and other personalities for his incredible gift with oil paint, harking back to impressionists like Van Gogh and Monet in his style.
It is, in fact, this tall, muscular young college kudo champion standing before you who is behind these art pieces. You only found out because you, a photography student with a penchant for procrastination, fell asleep in the lab, and when you woke up, you had to exit through the painting studio. He had been there at 2:30 in the morning, working on a piece, and you had instantly recognized his style.
He had gone on to explain to you how only you and one of the art professors knew the face of MoonMuse, and begged you to keep his secret. Something in his eyes — the passion, the desperation maybe — had convinced you to agree. Plus, there was nothing to gain from exposing him. It would just be mean. Then, you had asked him if you could watch.
“I can’t paint to save my life,” you had told him, “so there’s no way I could copy you.”
He gave you a half smile before nodding at the chair next to his. Turning back to the canvas, he began adding strokes to a magnificent flowered garden scene.
You had stayed there almost all night. Watching Minghao work had moved you — it was both soothing to watch and inspiring to witness the care he took with even the smallest details of the painting. Through his eyes, the world looked more colorful, more romantic, more beautiful than it really was. You found yourself wanting to live in the world he saw.
Minghao had insisted on walking you home, because you lived across campus and there was a particularly dark and dangerous street you’d needed to cross to get back to your apartment. The walk back had been full of awestruck questions from you. He seemed flattered by the attention, even remarking that since he never saw his clients in person, he never got to witness their reactions to his work.
“So why do you do it?” You’d asked, thinking about the way artistic work often relies on validation. “If not to make them happy, why paint at all?”
He looked at you, then, and laughed. “I don’t ever paint for anyone else. I paint to keep myself sane.”
This struck you as odd. It lingered with you as you worked on your own art, so much that you found yourself waiting for him every night at the painting studio. Most nights he never showed. Finally, though, he had. And, surprisingly, he seemed genuinely excited that you had met again.
This had been the night you had asked him about why he needed to paint to stay sane. Between strokes of his brush, he told you about how he had a painful tendency to give too much of himself. He rarely got to feel or process his own feelings, especially hard or negative ones. That was where painting came in. “When I paint, I get to make these painful things into something that I can look at. I get to make it beautiful so I can process it.”
He had laughed when he’d caught the expression on your face — in awe was probably the best way to put it. “I’m sorry,” You had stuttered, blushing.
“It’s okay,” he had reassured. “I…actually really enjoy how amazed you get about things like this.”
He bumped you with his shoulder comfortingly. You had looked up at him, and his gentle, open, happy smile had actually reached his eyes for the first time.
He’d walked you back again, and this had become your ritual. At the entrance to your apartment building, he’d stopped you with a gentle hand on your arm before you walked away. He’d asked for your phone number.
He’d texted you right as you’d arrived home — just to say goodnight, but also to tell you he wouldn’t be in the studio again til Friday. You had smiled at the butterfly emoji he’d used to close the text. Appropriate — since there were a flock of them in your stomach.
Today marked your 100th meeting. You’d fallen in love with him somewhere around the 33rd — you had invited him to come with you while you practiced astral photography. He had watched you set up your tripod and camera and asked a couple quiet questions, looking absolutely huggable in his puffy coat and beanie at the top of a rugged mountain. The light finally faded, and Minghao had turned his face toward the sky. “Whoa,” he’d whispered.
The sky was full of tiny pinpricks of light, never visible from the city, but here in this mountainous landscape they were clear. It was why you came here -- and part of why you'd invited him. For a moment, he stared, entirely dumbfounded.
Then he looked at you, and you had been shocked to see his eyes filled with tears.
"I've never seen stars like this before," he said, his voice almost reverent. "I couldn't have even imagined that they existed."
You watched as a tear slid down his cheek and fought back an urge to cup his face in your hands. A telltale burn behind your eyes alerted you that you might join him in crying, and you quickly hid your face behind your camera. But he looked back up at the sky, wearing the most peaceful and contented smile you'd ever seen in your life. It was hard not to stare at him. It was hard not to want to protect him from everything bad in the world. And it turned out that it was absolutely impossible not to be in love with him.
On the way back down the mountain, after the moon had risen and ruined any chance for pictures, he'd asked if he could come watch while you developed the photos. Surprised, you had told him that of course he could. There in the dark room, he told you about his life. He told you about leaving his family in China and coming to school to study art on a kudo scholarship. He told you about the bitter homesickness he felt, about how sometimes he felt so anxious about his choice that he couldn't sleep. He told you how desperately afraid he was to reveal himself to the world -- how much his peace meant to him, and how difficult it would be if he lost it.
At this, you felt your eyebrows raise. He noticed. "What?" he asked, a hint of teasing in his tone. "Am I getting a bit too moody for you?"
"No, it's not that," you reassured him. "I get feeling anxious about something that important." Then, choosing your words carefully, you said, "It's just that I don't get that last part. I don't know if you can lose peace."
Now he was the one looking at you with raised eyebrows. "Why do you say that?"
"Because," you said, looking at your hands, "peace is internal. It doesn't come from anyone but you." You forced yourself to look into his eyes. "Why aren't you at peace with yourself?" you had asked him, quietly.
"I don't know," he'd replied.
You had walked home that night in complete silence together. You had worried he was mad at you -- so worried that you turned to face him before you went inside. "Minghao, I --"
But he had stopped your apology by bringing you into a big hug. He smelled like clean laundry and the pine woods you'd left only a few hours earlier. "Don't you dare," he said with a laugh in his voice. "I'm just thinking about what you said. I'm not upset." He seemed a little quiet the next few days, but then he got better.
Indeed, today he seemed to smile much easier than he had when you'd first met him. Right now, with the fresh springtime air on his skin as you walked to his apartment next to the painting studio, he almost had a spring in his step. "You're chipper," you say to him, laughing as he grins widely at you.
"I am," he replies, opening the apartment door for you. "I'll shower and then I have something to give you."
You nod, pulling out your laptop and working on some homework while he gets cleaned off. He comes out from the bathroom looking a little flushed, his hair still wet, and you can hardly take your eyes off him. He smiles at you, patting the side of his hair with a towel. "It's at the studio," he says.
He grabs your hand, whirling you around and pulling you down the stairs to the studio. Placing both hands over your eyes, he guides you through the studio until you come to a stop. Then he lifts his hands from your eyes, placing them instead on your shoulders.
You stare at a medium-sized canvas on which he's painted the most stunningly beautiful picture you've ever seen. It's a mountaintop at night, the stars enchantingly close and vibrantly colored in shades of orange and yellow, beaming down at two small shadowy figures who seem to be gazing up at them in awe. The painting is full of priceless wonder and joy. "This...is amazing," you say, trying not to choke up.
"It's that night," he says, watching your face eagerly, almost hungrily, to discern how you're feeling. "You remember?"
"Of course," you say, nodding. You let out a big gust of air. "I honestly can't understand how you plan on topping this. This isn't your magnum opus?"
He looks at the ground shyly. "Honestly, this is a kid's crayon drawing compared to that one."
Your jaw drops. "I'm not trying to doubt your skill," you say, "but I can't imagine anything more beautiful than this." You approach the painting, almost wanting to touch it, but thinking better of it.
"I can," he says quietly behind you. You look over your shoulder to see him beaming at you. "You can touch it," he adds. "It's yours."
"Mine?" you gasp. "Minghao, I can't. I mean, this should be in an art museum."
"Crazy how it's gonna hang in your house, huh?" he says stubbornly. "Seriously, it's yours."
"What if someone asks where I got it from?"
"Tell the truth," he says. "MoonMuse."
"Then they'll know I know who you are."
He shrugs. "That's okay with me."
You grow desperate. "This is seriously too much. I wish I had somewhere beautiful to put this up, but I don't! It deserves to be seen."
"It will be seen by the eyes that matter," he insists. You blush, but then a noise at the door makes you jump.
"Hey," says a girl at the door. "What is that?"
"A painting," Minghao says tersely. "Who are you?"
But she ignores him. "Whoa," she says, pushing past you to stand right in front of the painting. You wince as she touches it with a greasy finger. "I heard MoonMuse goes to school here, but I never thought..."
"How did you hear that?" you ask, your voice sharp.
She pulls out her phone and shows you a video. It's a sneakily filmed video of Minghao painting. You are sitting in the corner watching in the video, and he says something that makes you laugh. You suddenly feel dizzy as the video cuts to a headline about MoonMuse's identity being revealed. The video says that the person filming realized it was Minghao after he saw what he was painting in his room.
The room painting flashes onto the screen, and you cover your mouth with your hands.
It's a poor-quality image of what looks like a masterpiece. The painting looks familiar. The hair, the eyes, even the nose...
It's you.
Given Minghao's impressionistic style, it's more colorful and more beautiful than you, but it's unmistakeable. He perfectly captured you caught in a laugh, with your hair blowing off your shoulder. You look at him, and he's staring at you with his mouth open in horror.
Unable to bear it, you run out of the studio, into the golden sunset, as tears sting your eyes. You haven't made it four steps before you hear him calling your name.
You whirl around to see Minghao following you. "Why did you run away?" he asks you.
"They found out," you say, panicked, as a tear splashes onto your cheek. "I'm so sorry -- I think it's my fault, Minghao."
He actually takes a step forward to brush the tear off your face. "I mean, it was kind of inevitable. I had to come forward at some point, right?" He keeps his hand on your face. "But I need to ask you something."
"What?" you ask, looking up at him.
He puts his other hand on your other cheek, cradling your face in his hands. "What did you think of the painting?" he says, looking into your eyes with an intensity that makes your stomach turn over.
You suddenly remember. "Oh," you say, and blush.
He swallows hard before continuing. "I painted my whole heart into that painting. That picture really didn't do it justice, and it really isn't finished, and I'm not thrilled that you saw it before I really figured out what to say to you."
"It was beautiful," you tell him honestly. "More beautiful than I deserve, honestly."
He tsks in disapproval. "It's you," he insists. “It’s exactly what I see when I see you.”
You are speechless. He laughs a little at your expression before continuing. “That day on the mountain, and after in the dark room, I saw that you had been healing something you didn’t hurt. I don’t remember ever feeling this cared for, and that means a lot to me.” He pulls you in so your noses are almost touching. “Please stay with me.”
You feel yourself trembling at the closeness of him - surprised that although you’ve spent a stupid amount of time daydreaming about having him hold you like this, it still feels so new and crazy and wonderful. You nod. “Okay.”
He smiles - brilliant, blinding. You can no longer resist reaching for him — feeling the warmth of his cheek against your fingers, brushing his soft hair from his temple, just like you’d imagined but better, and Minghao spins you around in giddy joy.
He sets you down, your faces still close together. You both look at each other with huge smiles, and he uses a finger to tilt your chin up. His eyes drop to your lips and then back to your eyes — a question.
You answer without speaking, just smiling into his eyes. He moves in, slowly, giving a brief but impossibly sweet kiss. His arms tighten around your waist as the kiss deepens. You feel a knot of tension in your chest dissolve, and you melt into him, kissing him back with gusto. Throwing your arms around his neck, you let him kiss you into oblivion.
It seems like several days before you finally stop, standing with foreheads together, breathing each other in. “I love you,” he whispers.
“I love you back,” you whisper in return.

jun: you’re at a wedding, not yours or his, but you’re both there and almost everything is like what you both once dreamed of—but it’s not for you or him.
you saw him when he arrived hours before but only acknowledged eachother with a quick nod before resuming whatever you had been doing prior. it isnt until couples are filling the dance floor as soft music plays through the speakers that he finally approaches you. or did you approach him? perhaps you met eachother halfway, neither of you seem to really mind.
its been so long since you’ve last seen him. you had both come to the agreement that a relationship wasn’t possible. not yours at least. your paths were leading you both two separate ways and while there are—and have been—occasions where your paths briefly intertwine, it would not last. despite the mutual decision you both came to four years, you still haven’t moved on to somebody new. and with the way he held and guided you so gently out to the dance floor, it appears like he hasn’t either.
“for old times sake,” he had reasoned when you looked at him confusingly at his offer of a dance. “this was once our dream, no?”
it was. from the venue to the season down to the song for the first dance, this wedding had been what the two of you once hoped to experience at your own wedding one day. you hope in another life, somehow, the circumstances were better.
“for old times sake.” you repeat after him, allowing yourself to savour the moment instead of dwelling over what once was and what could’ve been. what’s done has been done and you both knew deep down, it wouldn’t have worked in the way you would’ve liked no matter how hard you tried. not in this life at least, so while the chance is there, you hold onto him just a little tighter—as he does to you—and lose yourself to the rhythm of what could’ve been.

hoshi: “soonyoung?” your voice is groggy from sleep, eyes barely even open as your prop yourself up on your elbow with the phone to your ear.
the line is silent for a brief moment, save for some shuffling, before you finally hear his voice. “y/n hey, did i wake you?”
if you were even half awake, you would’ve shot him a sarcastic remark but you were far too exhausted right now so you figured simply agreeing with him would be easiest.
oh how wrong you were.
when he finally ended the call with a quick “thank you so much, i’m about twenty minutes away right now. i’ll text you when i’m there.” your head hit the pillow once again and just as you were about to fall into sleeps embtace once again, his words finally registered in your mind and you nearly shot out of bed at the realization.
unfortunately for you, he was already on his way to your apartment and the guilt would eat you alive if you were to suddenly turn him down when he had called asking if he could crash at your place. tapping your phone, you groaned at the reflected time: 2:37am.
might as well get up, he’ll be here soon anyways. you thought to yourself as you slowly got up from the comfort of your bed, already missing the warmth you so desperately wanted to crawl back into.
heading to the the kitchen, you got yourself a glass of water and decided to sit by the island until you got his text. in the silence, you could hear the soft pitter patter of rain outside your window and you wondered what could’ve possibly happened for him to have called you out of all people asking to spend the night. typically you don’t crash at your ex’s place after a breakup.
i’m here! you read the text and smile as you hear the soft shuffling outside your front door.
“hey.” he greets you warmly when you open the door. his jacket is soaked but he shakes off the excess water before stepping foot into your apartment and you silently thank him for the action before closing the door behind him.
“do you need to take a shower?” you asked and he shook his head.
“it’s fine really, just need a place to spend the night. i won’t stay long, promise.” he says and you wonder if it’s the exhaustion that says it’d be fine if he did. the drawer filled with his clothes still remain anyways.
“thank you, i’ll be fine. go back to sleep, i’m sorry for waking you.” he’s gently pushing you towards the direction of your bedroom but you only move an inch before you’re turning back towards him with a small frown. “what?”
“i cant let you sleep on the couch.”
“then the ground.”
“soonyoung!”
he bites back a grin, only adding fuel to your slightly annoyance that he only finds adorable.
“come,” you give him no time to protest before grabbing his hand and guiding him towards to your room. “i’ll get you a blanket.”
he stands awkwardly by your bed after taking off a few layers, leaving him in only a t-shirt and pair of sweatpants while you rummage through your closet for a spare blanket. you hand it to him with a nod before getting back to bed, your exhausting weighing heavy as you fight sleep just long enough to watch him crawl onto the bed with you, leaving a noticeable distance between you two.
a smile makes its way to your lips but sleep seems to reach you quicker as a quiet “night soonie.” reaches his ears and despite having lived in this apartment with you some time ago, it feels awfully new now that the two of you are no longer together. everything seems unfamiliar now, yet this feels oddly nostalgic.
“y/n?” he calls softly, watching as you mumbled something he couldn’t quite make out in response. the only coherent thing he could catch was his name before you’re suddenly inching closer to him making his hold his breath.
“y/n.” he tries again to no avail, seeing as you’re now nearly curled up against his chest. despite having asked for a place to sleep for the night, he finds it difficult to even try falling asleep when his mind is struggling to process what is happening and what he should do. he didn’t want to overstep but he also feared possibly waking you up again if he tried to get you to roll back onto the opposite side of your bed.
it also didn’t help that you looked so peaceful like this.
i’ll be gone be gone before sunrise. he eventually told himself. he would be gone before you woke up and neither of you would have to worry about what happened. it would be like he was never here in the first place.
closing his eyes, he selfishly allowed himself to savour moment as your soft breaths lulled him to sleep.
“for old times sake.” he told himself. he would be home by sunrise, and the two of you would go back to being strangers.
now if only he had actually left before sunrise.

minghao: “oh my bad,” your voice startles the man sitting idly on the swing. “i thought no one would be here, i didn’t- i should go-”
he calls your name as you begin to turn around. you’ve forgotten how it sounds rolling off his tongue.
“yeah?” you turn towards him, and when you do, he’s gesturing to the empty swing seat beside him and you know deep down you should just leave, you need to get over him and while avoiding him isn’t necessarily the smartest thing, it’s easier than fighting to not fall for him all over again. but then he’s flashing you that charming smile and reasoning that it’s “for old times sake” and you find it hard to say no to him. it always has—but somehow not when he first brought up the idea of ending it. you push the thought to the back of your mind for now. and so, despite your head screaming at you to turn around and walk back home, you find yourself sitting on a swing set beside minghao as he listens to you talk about the stars up in the sky.
you were hesitant at first, only briefly making small talk before he curiously asked about a particular constellation it’s the first one you ever showed him. there’s a fond expression on his face as looks at you—distracted and all too consumed by the stars above—that hasn’t seemed to disappear even after your relationship came to an end.
he wonders, sometimes, if the stars remembered when he’d bring you to this park every night when you were younger, listening closely as you talked about whatever it was that was currently on your mind. he wonders if they remembered watching the two of you; reckless, young, but oh so inlove with one another. he wonders if they remember how many nights he's sat here, heart aching in his hands as he wished for anything that could make him yours again.
they do remember, and perhaps it is out of pity that tonight, the stars seem to shine brighter as if allow you the moment you’ve relived so many times in your youth. for old times sake.

dino: your friends weren’t good at being subtle. or at least you hoped they were trying to be subtle.
your relationship with chan had ended two years ago and despite choosing to still remain friends, it was evident that your friends seemed to believe that there was still a chance of relighting that old flame. perhaps they weren’t wrong.
“it looks like its going to be just us.” chan said when he realized that the rest of your friends had already paired up whilst in line, leaving the two of you left as the ferris wheel operator motioned for the two of you to get on. he flashed you a small smile, almost apologetic, as he extended a hand out for you to take.
glancing up at the pods your friends now occupied, you shot them a scowl before hastily taking his hand and getting into the pod of your own. his hand still in yours even after you’ve both even seated and the ride started. you didn’t notice until he readjusted his hand so that your fingers were now intertwined and you looked down at your hands in slight horror.
he simply gave you a smile before turning to look out at the shoreline. “for old times sake.” he said, referencing to your first ‘date’ where nearly the same situation had happened. the only difference between them and now was that at the top of the ferris wheel chan had finally confessed after months of claiming to be ‘just friends’. this time, he only holds onto your hand tightly, squeezing it almost reassuringly while avoiding your gaze altogether.
“chan?”
his expression was soft when he looked at you, the devotion he still holds for you practically leaking out as he hummed in acknowledgment at your call.
“nothing.” you replied, giving his hand a squeeze. he smiled in return.
for old times sake.

It was the few days before summer came in full blow. The nights were still cold but the afternoons were warm, leading people to come out of their houses and play with the warm sand.
It was nearing spring, but my heart felt stuck in eternal winter.
I looked at the pink and white card on my desk, taunting me with its content.
The reason for the numbness I was willing into my heart.
“I want us to have a green and beige-themed wedding, it’d look so pretty. Right, Minghao?”
Just when I had thought that my heart was unfeeling and my eyes had cried all its tears out, the ache in my chest as the memories flooded through my brain, I realized maybe I would never be able to let her go.
Maybe it was my destiny to live the unrequited love while the love of my life went and got married to the one man I had considered my best friend.
Mingyu and Abhi.
The two people I had trusted the most, didn’t only go behind my back but also are going to start their new lives together as a wedded couple while I am left behind to pick up the thorns of their roses.
“Come on Minghao, are you really jealous of your best friend? He’s the one who I have thought of as a brother since we met. You are the one I have always loved”
Lies.
It was all pretty lies that somehow he had believed because he was blinded by love and now, here he is.
Minghao is alone in this room while the entire town is at their wedding.
It grows hotter and hotter as Minghao’s brain is filled with the moments of their betrayal.
Going to Mingyu’s home and finding Abhi there, cooking for him.
Seeing them hanging out at the club through their Instagram stories.
Their parents always being super close with each other and have dinners on a regular basis.
Minghao knows he should have known. He should have realized the truth when it was right in front of him but he was too blinded by love and too trusting.
He had loved Abhi and trusted Mingyu and in return, he received lies and betrayal.
The sadness was gone, what remained now was the anger.
How dare they play him like that?
How dare they lie to him for 4 years?
This was it.
Minghao wanted answers.
Why did Abhi not tell him she had fallen for his best friend? Why the act?
Minghao rushed to his car.
He had decided not to go to their wedding but he needed some kind of answer or else he was afraid he was going to go crazy.
Minghao hurries to the basement of the building and drives out in a rush.
The wedding location is 2 hours away and the wedding is in 3 hours.
He is sure he can get some answers before the marriage takes place.

“We should get the gardenias for our wedding. It's really pretty.”
“Minghao we should name our child based on stars. Two cuties born from love and adoration.”
“Minghao, I love you”
“Yes! A hundred thousand times Yes. I will marry you”
“I have to get married to Mingyu”
Tears threatened to fall as he recalled all the moments he had spent with Abhi.
It was still painful. It was still confusing.
To him, Abhi was the one.
He still cannot imagine a life without her so why? Why did she leave him?
Why was she marrying someone else when she knew Minghao wouldn’t be able to live without her?
‘Why did you do that Abhi? Was my love not enough?’
The place where the wedding was supposed to take place was pretty just as he had thought it to be.
But it was all wrong.
Instead of beige and green, it was white and lavender.
Instead of gardenias, there were orchids.

Instead of Minghao and Abhi, it was Mingyu and Abhi.
The pain bloomed once again as he saw photos of his ex-best friend and girlfriend, smiling at each other, excited to start their new lives.
“Minghao?” He sees the person in front of him. It was Ira, Abhi’s elder sister. “What are you doing here?”
“I was invited?”
Ira visibly pales “I know. I just thought you wouldn’t actually attend the wedding.”
Minghao bursts out laughing. “And why is that? It is after all the wedding ceremony of two people who are so perfectly made for each other. Both are so pro in betraying others.”
Minghao knows it’s not Ira’s fault but he’s too angry to speak nicely to anyone.
“It's now what you think it is. Abhi-”
“Leave it. I don’t want to hear any excuses.”
Minghao walks away from Ira. He knows he is being disrespectful, but he really doesn’t want to hear any excuses from others.
What he wants are answers, directly from Abhi.
Thankfully Minghao doesn't encounter anyone else on the way to the dressing room and barges straight into the “For Bride” hall.
He notices the perfume the first thing he opens the door. It’s hers.
Nostalgia hits him as he realizes how much he missed her scent.
But also, how it reminds him of her betrayal.
The smell that used to make him feel calm, now only ignites embers of betrayal and broken promises.
Then he sees her, sitting in front of the mirror.
She’s just as stunning as he had imagined her to be in all of his fantasies and Minghao momentarily forgets why he was there.
The white dress, the veil, the diamond glowing against her skin. She looked like the prettiest girl in the world.
“Minghao?” Her voice broke my stupor, bringing back all the bad memories of her betrayal and the reason why I was here.
“Are you really here?”For some reason, Minghao sees her face transform from pale sadness to hopefulness. He knows he shouldn't care but his instincts force him to go near her, comfort her and not say a word that might hurt her.
He ignores the pang in his chest.

“Why are you so surprised? Weren’t you the one who sent me the invite?” The hope in her eyes dulls.
“Did you even open it? The invite?”
Minghao feels the anger coming back. He steps closer to her. “And why would I do that? So that you can laugh about how you made a fool of me and my love for you? No Abhi, I did not open the invite because I was not interested in it at all.”
Minghao sees as tears fall out of her eyes but he’s too far gone to care at the moment.
“Did you really think I was here to bless your marriage and congratulate the people who betrayed me? Or did you think I was here to get fooled by you two once again?”
“Minghao, you have to listen to me.”
“NO! YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME MRS ABHIRA MINGYU KIM.” I knew it was bad, I knew I was out of control, but I had lost all my semblance of control since the day I woke up and heard news about these two. And it was not directly from them. Not only was I betrayed, but I wasn’t even important enough to know the truth. But I refused to be disrespected anymore.
“So tell me, Abhi, since when have you been going behind my back and hooking up with my so-called best friend? Since when the two of you have been laughing at my loyalty?”
“Minghao please calm down and listen to me. Please.”
“The only thing I want to listen to is the reason you had to do this. Why didn’t you just tell me you liked him? Did you think I wouldn’t have understood you falling for him while being with me? Or did cheating on me give you some sick kind of pleasure?”
“Minghao please you are hurting me” He saw the scrunch on Abhi’s face and then looked down to see the grip he had on her arm. He immediately let go, the distraction somewhat dissipating his anger.
“Not more than how you hurt me.”
Minghao turned as he realized it was not worth it anymore. If she really wanted to be married to Mingyu, he’d give her that.
It was his last gift to her, his first and only love.
“Get married to Mingyu, Abhi. But don’t ever show your face to me. This is my last consideration to both of you”
Minghao walked out of the hall, ignoring the cries of Abhi who wanted him to listen to her.
But really, nothing remained to be said or heard.
Minghao straight away went to get his car, ignoring everything that was happening around him, and before he knew it, he was on the road, hitting 70 miles per hour.
His phone kept blaring but he ignored it all until his eyes were burning from the impact of the air and tears.

45 missed calls from Mingyu.
33 missed calls from Ira.
1 missed call from Abhi.
Minghao got hit by dread.
For some reason, an ominous feeling hit him, and he knew it in his heart. Something bad has happened.
Very bad.
His phone blares again and this time it's not Mingyu or Ira or Abhi.
It's Charles, his secretary.
Minghao feels his heart stop beating.
Something very bad has happened.
Very very bad.
He answers the call.
“Charles..?”
Minghao is unable to talk.
“Mr Minghao where have you been? Mr Mingyu has been wanting to reach out to you for the past hour.”
“Tell him he doesn’t have anything he can say that will mend our relationship. He is a betrayer and I will never forgive him or Abhi-”
“Miss Abhira passed away.”
The world goes pin drop silence as Minghao feels his eardrums ring. No way did he hear it right.
“WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?”
“Miss Abhira Ranawat took her own life. She jumped from the rooftop of her wedding venue and was pronounced dead while being transferred to the hospital due to a rupture of all internal organs.”
Minghao couldn’t concentrate on what Charles was saying anymore.
He couldn’t concentrate on where he was going.
Abhi….
Dead.
No.
Dead..?
No way.
It can…
It ain’t…
It’s not true.
No. Abhi cannot be dead.
She cannot die.
She’s not dead.
He doesn’t believe it.
HE CAN'T BELIEVE IT.
HE REFUSES TO BELIEVE IT.
The air feels thick and impossible to intake as Minghao dials Ira’s number.
The phone rings for 3 dials before he hears Ira’s voice.
“YOU BASTARD. WHAT? WHAT DID YOU EVER SAY TO MY BABY SISTER THAT MADE HER DO THIS? I WILL NEVER FORIVE YOU. I SWEAR I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU.”
Before he can reply, Minghao hears another voice.
“Minghao…”
Minghao feels dread fill his heart which twists the organ.
“Tell me it’s not true.”
The voice that comes out is way too calm for how he is feeling.
But he hopes, he wishes, he prays to all Gods above for Mingyu to ascertain that it’s not true.
That Abhi is still….
That she is still living and her heart is still beating.
He will do anything, forgive her, give her anything and everything she wants, as long as what he heard was not true.
“Her last wish was for you to read the letter.”
And just like that, Minghao’s entire world collapses.
No.
“You are lying…”
“I so wish I was…You don’t even realize how much”
Minghao doesn’t even cut the call. It just falls out of his hand as they lose all strength.
She’s dead.
Abhi is dead.
Minghao remembers all the bad things he told her… All the blame…
He remembers her tears and curses himself.
Why?
WHY?
Why did he have to do that?
Why did he treat her like that?
If she wanted to marry Mingyu, he should have just let her.
Why did he have to go and ruin her like that?
At least she would have been alive.
At least his world wouldn’t have ended.
WHY
WHY DID SHE TAKE HIS WORDS SO SERIOUSLY?
“I thought you read the letter…That’s why you are here..”
Minghao opens the wedding cursed invitation and a white paper falls out of it.
His tears make it difficult to read the words inked but by the time he completes reading it, his tears stop.
Instead, his world blackens.
The sun? It’s not there.
The people laughing? They are taunts in his ears which can hear everything clearly.
His heart stops but he is still breathing.
He shouldn’t.
He cannot.
He must not breathe, not when he is the reason Abhi is not breathing anymore.
He deserves to be punished.
More importantly, he refuses to live in a world where Abhi doesn’t exist.
Minghao is in auto mode as his legs walk towards the vast ocean that is in front of him.
He should have just let her get married to Mingyu.
Minghao knew he never deserved Abhi…He should have just stayed in the hotel.
He should have read the letter.
He should have listened when she was trying to explain.
Why was he so prideful?
Why was he so stupid?
Why did he let a girl like Abhi was the form of sunshine take, such a drastic step?
Why did Abhi just not slap him instead when he was blaming her?
The cold water broke his stupor and his body’s defense mechanism was forcing him to get out but he pushed through it.
He was a killer.
A murderer who forced the death of his own love.
He needs to be punished.
The first taste of the ice-cold salty ocean water awakened his brain but his heart had long since shut down.
He needs to bear the pain.
His hands and legs start kicking as water enters his lungs, burning his windpipe and begging him to swim out.
He should not live.
A few seconds later he feels his body going numb from the lack of oxygen and his brain is dark. But at the end of darkness, he sees light. It’s small but definite.
The coldness is no longer there.
Instead, he feels warm.
The light dissipates the darkness and warmth covers him.
“Minghao please don’t do this.”
The voice tells him as he feels himself floating in the air instead of water.
“I have to. I need to.”
“Minghao please…”
“No Abhi. I cannot live in a world where you don’t exist. Don’t tell me to do the impossible.”
“But I did that so you can live peacefully…”
“I am sorry you felt like that. That is why I need to be punished.”
“NO”
“I will meet you soon Abhi. After I atone for my sins, I will meet you and I will give you all the happiness you deserve. Just be happy till then.”
“Minghao please, stop.”
“I have made up my mind.”
“Let’s meet in another life”

Romantic gestures

95s, 96s, 97s, 98s, 99s ··- ฅ^._.^ฅ
a/n: another one that took me a long time lmao. there are some that i debated on, as in, it didn't really fit the members in the narrative i create, but feel free to give me your own opinions too. enjoy reader !!
genre: fluff
warning: none (do tell me if i missed any!)

Minghao: Hao and his ways of showing you that he cares !! he’ll randomly ask for some of your clothes, ones that you don’t wear often but feels comfortable wearing, and when you ask why, he answer with a simple, “I’ll put them in my home for whenever you stay the night.” istg this man and his silent romantic gestures. And he’ll be so cool about it, like ‘yeah I just want you to feel comfortable whenever you crash in, want you to feel like it’s your home too. What about it?’... Everything, hao. Everything. It isn’t as romanticized of a gesture but the sole thought of how he prioritizes your comfort and your ease melts your heart.
Mingyu: It’s the little things that he does secretly that hits a little bit harder. Whenever the two of you go out on a date, you always wanted to have a little time to yourself. Walking around the mountains, humming some tune while watching stars fall, or when you helped wonwoo’s s/o clean up their kitchen before going for a movie night with your lovers. In those moments mingyu would always sneak up behind you, silently capturing the moment, smiling to himself at how adorable you look doing the most mundane things. And sometimes you would catch the sound of the camera shutters but never really mind them, but what you didn’t know was that he kept them in physical form. Something you both can hold and keep. So when gyu caught you looking at those pictures in the bedroom drawer, he sneaked up behind you, arms finding comfort on the small of your waist, head resting on your shoulder. And with the most smiliets, giddiest voice ever, “surprise?”
Seokmin: See, seokmin is really attentive. He’s extremely caring, and may not seem like it, but his extroverted-ness have taught him how to read people. And so when you waited for your parents to arrive at the restaurant where you would introduce soekmin to them, he knew he needed to be the best boyfriend ever to you. The 10 minutes that passed seemed like an eternity and by the way your eyes were fixed on your food, slowly growing cold, he knew you were more than nervous. Not that your parents would be unaccepting, they’re the sweetest people ever, but the mere thought of them expecting more from you turns your stomach upside down. So, instead of stimulating your brain more by talking, he placed his hands on your knee. Slowly rubbing it, making incoherent shapes, which are mostly wonky love hearts. And when your parents arrive, he moved his hands away. Only to be brought back by yours, intertwining your fingers with his. Saying the most silent ‘thank you’.
Seungkwan: Seungkwan would leave little memo notes on your laptop and you would find your self chuckling at the content. It started out with simple words of affirmation. He’d shyly give it to you, face red, denying it as anything romantic. But as you get comfortable with each other, he’d winked at you before you go into your study/office room, and you’d find yourself head to head with pink and yellow sticky notes. All saying your favorite kdrama lines, your favorite actor quotes, song time stamps. It was so bizarre going through them whenever you feel yourself slowly deteriorating, because a little look at the neon paper would give you a boost knowing that seungkwan wrote it with your comfort, safety, and energy in mind. And once you finished your work, you would cling to him all day teasing him that what he did was romantic, and was cheesy, and you absolutely loved it.
Vernon: His go-to gesture to comfort you is to lend you his spare earphones. The main reason why he favors them more than headphones despite the comfort and quality the other gives.. It’s such a simple gesture with such simple reasoning behind it. All he’s trying to say is ‘wanna listen to my music? I think you’ll like it’ or ‘take your mind off of things for a sec, i have something to show you… here, listen to this.’ but that little move of a hand of him offering you the unused earbuds means the world to you. Shows you that he cares, that he wants you to know this musical part of him o distract you from things that might be bothering you at the time, inevitably falling for him more. So in lonely bus rides, or stressful study/work sessions, hansol would raise his eyebrows, you would nod, he’d give you his spare earbud, you’d use it, and with intertwined hands, go on about your day bathing in eachother’s company with your shared playlist playing.
Chan: You’d be lying if chan giving you bouquet of flowers everytime he drops by your house wasn’t cheesy. It was. It was hella cliche too. But you love it and it fills your heart to its brim. Chan wasn’t really a flower/plant person per-say. But with the knewly found knowledge that you raise little plant children, he decided to show you that he loves that aspect and characteristic of you by giving you more plant babies. Don’t get me wrong though, he doesn’t just gives you it and leaves it to wilt. He did some research flowers, how to take care of them, what soil is best used, and most importantly, it’s meaning. You know chan, he’s all for the meaning of little things, and if that means it can show you how much he loves you, that's all he needs.

the day was nearing its end, the sun had gone down hours ago. but the smile that had rested on your features throughout the day was still permanent on your lips. yours and minghao's laughter echoed between the walls of the alley that you were walking through, moving toward the street.
on the ground were several pools of water after the rainy weather from the previous days. you couldn't help but think that today had indeed been lucky for your date since the sky had remained cloudy instead of letting an unwanted pour down on you. although that wasn't the ideal weather to have a date in, it didn't matter because whenever and wherever you were. if you were with minghao, it couldn't be anything but wonderful. there had been no sun to warm you up, but that had stopped being a problem a long time ago, because of minghao's smile, oh, his smile. it was like the sun itself was captured within it, it set your blood on fire, spreading a scorching warmth within your whole body.
the traffic lights signalled red by the time you reached it, there weren't many people walking on the streets at that hour which gave your boyfriend the liberty to place his hands on your hips, thumbs rubbing light circles on your clothed body. there were several layers of clothes separating his hands from your skin, and yet, it felt as if his hot fingertips had just burned through that fabric. it wasn't anything sexual or suggestive, it was affectionate and no matter the normality in his actions, never did it fail to send shooting stars down your spine. his orbs reflected the starry night above your heads as they looked down on you, garnished with long lashes that glittered under the moonlight. his pupils dilated wildly as soon as you answered his gaze, pooling with an emotion that you couldn't completely set your finger on, all you knew was that this look that he was giving you, made your heart swell an incredible amount of sizes bigger, making you fear that it would explode at any moment.
“actually, i,” he suddenly said. for some reason, his voice sounded magical, softer than it had ever done before, casting you under a beautiful spell that you'd never try to break through willingly, ever. it hazed your view as you let your eyes travel lazily over his features, counting the small moles on his face. you wanted to kiss them. you felt his left hand leave your hip bone but you were too immersed into his orbs to notice.
“hmm?” you encouraged him to go on, although it came out to sound rather distracted since his dazing smell was all you could think about. it was insane to you, how you had known this young man for so long, and how he'd still be able to cloud your mind with him and solely him. how he could bring you to another dimension just by murmuring two words, in fact, minghao could say the dumbest thing ever and you'd find yourself falling for him all over again.
the daze you were put under suddenly shattered like glass when minghao's grip tightened on your body and you were spun around, breath hitched inside of your lungs. just when you were about to let out a sigh, your breath disappeared again. but this time it wasn't because of minghao moving so rashly without warning, it was because of the sudden splash of water that covered your entire back, not missing to drench your hair. a loud gasp pushed through your lips at the cold air hitting your clothes skin along with the realisation of what had just happened.
you couldn't believe minghao had just used you for protection against the car's water splash as it drove into a pool.
“xu,” your nostrils flared with fury, “minghao.” the boy gulped loudly at the threatening way you had just pronounced his name. it gave him the chills, and not because of it possibly sounding lovely, but because he'd probably be dead in a couple of seconds. but he didn't let the lasers you were shooting through your eyes stop him from sending you a sheepish smile.
"i'm so sorry, it's just that i–” he started but you were quick to interrupt.
“i what, minghao?” minghao's teeth dug into his lip as if he was trying to suppress the growing smile on his face, you didn't know if you wanted to hit him or smile with him.
he lifted his hand and led it towards your head where he took hold of a stray, wet strand of your hair, tucking it gently behind your ear as he leaned his lips to your ear. his hot breath fanned your ear as he let his lips trace the rim slowly before speaking.
“i had to protect this very important thing….” he murmured, he hid his face in the crook of your neck, his beautiful, milky hands grabbing yours gently, only to slide something cool and unfamiliar on your fourth finger.
“i hope you want to stay with me forever, will you?”
