call it sad, but this is what makes stede so relatable. like, he's just a guy with interests who never made friends because he was different, but he never closed himself off, he's still eager, kind and welcoming, not only to ed, but also his crew. in separating himself from the life he had that made him alien, he actually found that there are people who will love him, care for him and treat him with respect.
thats why he didnt hesitate. he felt that he found his people, but he didn't deserve to have them, and that makes me emo too.
Very emo about how Stede, who has only known rejection his whole life, immediately opens up about his interests to the first person who gives him any encouragement at all. Oh you like that cashmere? Wanna see my secret wardrobe? Wanna look at my books? Wanna have some marmalade? How about tea? Have all the sugars you want!
This man has been so starved for friendship. He is SO delighted to have a friend. Someone to share things with and show things to, and learn about in turn. But the thing making me emo is how he doesn't even hesitate. He's been rejected all his life and still, he's so eager at the prospect of someone sharing his interests for once that he just. Barrels ahead. Opens himself up for rejection and ridicule again and again.

Like I know Stede floored Ed with that moonlight moment, but I cannot stress enough how every moment since he met Ed has been a moonlight moment for Stede.
