Learn How To Craft & Cast Practical Magic

I support and promote practical witchcraft. I like deity worship and self work and cute journal spreads (@arcanas-grimoire taught me what journal spreads are the other day!), but you know what I like the most?

GETTING SHIT DONE

Hot, spicy, fiery, volcano take: Deities of witchcraft want us to do practical magic. They have set a banquet resplendent with dishes of personal agency, power, and stewardship of our own lives. They want us to feast, fingers dripping with nectar and butter. Spirits of the land miss us. They want to know us. They reach for us, yearning: what a wonderful world it would be if more humans would see them and learn from them.

Imagine, before you is a golden palace filled with tables creaking under the weight of treasures. The Goat-Footed Man has flung the doors open for you and beckons you. The indwellers of nature reach out for you.

The system & methodology of magic I am going to present to you is a lot of UPG, a lot of warbly British & American reconstruction stuff, and a heaping dose of "this is what I do and it works."

Please do not make a terrible mistake: this stuff I'm writing is NOT UNIVERSAL WITCHCRAFT BELIEFS (which don't exist). Many, many witches, with amazing and experienced practices, will probably totally disagree with me! If the stuff I'm writing makes you feel weird or uncomfortable, that is a great sign that the way I do things isn't the way you do things. Witchcraft is a galaxy and I present to you how to navigate one single island of one single planet. If the atmosphere curdles your blood, I encourage you to not dwell in this farm plot of the arcane; there is so much more out there, and something will be right for you.

The system I intend to present is inherently animistic, involves working with spirits, involves working with gods, and is suitable for beginners. Yeah, I said it. Get those spirits on the phone, let's party.

First and second are the most popular when it comes to reader insert fanfiction, and first and third, although third dominates, are the most popular when it comes to character fanfiction.

I've found that first person is a lot more common in RPF fanfiction, but I still get the odd few crop up when I'm scouring character fanfiction. Most notably in DC or Marvel.

E.g; works can be marked by the style of perspective written in and also searched by or filtered by the perspective written in.

I ask because I am someone who absolutely never reads first person literature, and often I come across fanfiction where the summary is in third person but once you click on the fanfiction the entire story is in first person POV. Its only a mild annoyance, but as far as features go its one that I, myself, would find very beneficial.

"Damn Tumblr"

On one hand, you can be so annoying, problematic, idiotic, and cringey. On the other hand, I can't help but browse through shamelessly and obsess over posts for hours on end. I wish I knew how to quit you!

Jewels of Truth Statements & Favorite Quotes of the Month

Hello All, It is that time of the month which I share the segment I enjoy the most which is the trio of "Jewels of Truth" spiritual wisdom statements. Always with an eclectic mix of interesting topics that lend it to the personal growth category of inner expression. These statements are also found in Volume 3 of the recently published "Jewels of Truth: The Journey of the Soul Continues". Today's topics are in the numbered series #1081-1083 under the categories of: Love & Fear, Balance, and Perspectives at large. Those of you that have read Volume 3 and seen my posts of the "Jewels of Truth" series here at "Atrayo's Oracle". Will no doubt find a discrepancy or two in the grammar and change of a word or two in my presentations. I often enjoy tweaking each statement so what you read here on the blog may be spruced up differently than what is presented in each of my published volumes. The famous singer or crooner "Tony Bennett" once stated during a "Tavis Smiley" interview on PBS. That when Mr. Bennett sings he often turns the phrase different with a new word or two in the song. In order to keep the singing interesting for himself during the performance. Well I in my own way as a writer I tweak my own automatic writing in the same manner to keep the discourse with our Angels interesting. So keep that in mind the next time you read a spiritual wisdom statement from my blog and in a published volume. As always may you be expanded in your horizons by being exposed to notions you would not otherwise consider that you find beneficial. Enjoy. ============================== Love & Fear: 1081) In this life we can choose what will motivate us as a whole. Will it be Love or Fear that sets you apart in this lifetime? Karma has no hold on our souls greatest truth a love known as grace. Or a dying fear of sheer torment during this sojourn of our Earthly trek. When you choose poorly then you shall be preyed upon and easily manipulated by your peers via numerous tactics of fear and selfish whims at large. If again you chose wisely then keep on your guard using reason with an unconditional love expressed in moderation. Because a conditional love is flawed as a mixture of demands placed on it by the frail ego always. It has no place being called love in the absolute eyes of God(dess). Good intentions may often follow a self-justified conditional loving response. However seldom on what you seek becomes what is truly intended in life. More often than not unintended consequences with shallow demands by a conditional love will reign supreme in heartache and mental anguish. An unconditional love on the other hand is harder to practice at first by upholding it. This is not a love without discipline or a backbone as do what you please. It is a bold true love that the romantics of legend and the spiritual saints have practiced with their own life's blood bolstered by convictions. Unconditional Love is divine and godly in faith as it is in a living practice by the secular and the spiritual domain. It is a paradoxical emotional phenomena as gentle and hard simultaneously for it mimics God as both the Constant and the Absolute. By being true to oneself and each other in this life we liberate ourselves in beauty. Love well and deeply, but not as a zealot. Just be as a living form of excellence for us mortals portraying paradoxically our perfection as souls in God's sublime "Holy Spirit". Amen.                                                                                                                            ---Ivan Pozo-Illas / Atrayo. Balance:

1082) There is a common paradoxical misperception we all face and by most accounts we get it backwards more often than not. What I'm speaking of is the balance of excellence through our physical mortality with all that we think, say, and do. This is in comparison to the perfection of our souls in the Image and Likeness of God as we stand in complete truth. Many with obsessive personalities seek the impossible with perfection in the living flesh. That we act by pursuing it with a folly akin to an eager dog chasing its tail out of habit. Instead I tell you; calm yourselves with patience and seek a gentle moderation by your sincere intentions and actions. Doing so affords you the space of not being your own worst taskmaster.

Otherwise just seek a form of excellence that is warranted by a robust common sense. A common sense that is reasonable and practical with form and action. This will lead you into a holistic pattern of balance without tipping the scales of Life in an unwanted direction. You must not find yourself wavering by being a punitive taskmaster seeking perfection. Then Stop and Breathe by starting over realizing that perfection is only found in the Divine Spirit in essence and not in the substance of mortal flesh of this world. Amen.                                                                                                                                ---Ivan Pozo-Illas / Atrayo. Perspectives:

1083) Those who share various perspectives as points of view irrespective of favoritism. Will be often one of the most considerate in analysis above all others. Having a shrewd foresight of past patterns, dynamics, and trends that may reappear once again under a different light. Sometimes people only judge what is within direct grasp omitting the most likely occurrence of another sort just around the bend. Usually getting stuck solely on short term gains whereby long term highlights or pitfalls are ignored at the peril of all.

It is when others begin to be vilified by doing the right thing out of a positive sense of dutiful intentions. That the hateful rhetoric drowns out any potential gains by making the righteous soul take an unbecoming detour. Sabotaging any gains and if indeed worthy as an ounce of prevention soon becomes apparent the pound of pain is on its way. Only after earning their keeps can the good actors be given the necessary authority and leeway to act without detractors. Attributing the benefit of all including the whiners that are often the first recipients of their justified fruits. Vindication is usually a bittersweet affair having a mighty "I Told You So!". To those who won't be dissuaded until all suffer just like themselves out of trial and error. Fools are often vain and fickle souls immature like a child not knowing what it wants to be pleased with in earnest.

It has always been the courageous to take the first set of risks until the path seems secure enough to be traveled by all. No matter if the others don't quite comprehend the gains to be achieved in results. It boils down to the classical "Fight or Flight" primal response in others. This is where the higher caliber astute souls distinguish themselves from the followers at large. Be this regarding the scale of individuals or up to entire nation States as a living ethos of being alive. The future always belongs to the brave and the bold in action. Be those actions justified at the time or way off base until a further elucidation can be gained of the greater truth as the difficulties in life become revealed for all to see.                                                                                       ---Ivan Pozo-Illas / Atrayo. ===============================

Hi g/t lovers, I'm trying to find an old g/t story on Wattpad.

It's a finished 60 chapter story called "Perspectives" written by Miss Madeline on Wattpad. It was about a human girl being teleported in a giant boy bedroom and the whole story is about discovering what made her teleport there. In this world giants know about humans, but humans don't know about giants. The aesthetic was Victorian-esque with advanced technology.

I found it so good that I translated it from English to French. My English comprehension was not that great when I did the first 15 chapters, then I did a break for many years and finished the translation when my skills were much better. I can't find the original version anymore, nor Miss Madeline's account, but I still have my translation.

If by any chance anyone knows about this story or Miss Madeline's whereabouts, please tell me because I'd love to re-read this story.

2,5K people have read my translation, so probably more have read the original and I hope that some of these readers are here today because that story had a huge impact on my g/t journey

waitwaitwait how does this perspective drawing stuff work

Okay, fair warning: I just picked up this thing like a few hours ago, my hands are rattling, my muses are excited and I’m so glad I went to Krenz aka cushart’s little seminar where he spoke extensively (in a language I haven’t practiced in a long time. aka not english) about the importance of “grounding” a character in order to make them realistic and believable.

The seminar was great because I actually… didn’t understand any of the perspective tutorial that I’ve read off the internet before this? The seminar was basically like a missing link for me, so I hope that I can share that in this long post.

So be prepared for long post!

Based on the seminar, he said the biggest issue with character posture and design he has seen many people do is that it’s based on assumptions and conjectures. Most of us absorb posture, dynamism and foreshortening by looking at other people’s works and imitating/recreating them (myself also being a big offender in this). Basically, he’s saying that there should be a structured approach for you to get into posing a character in your art /while/ allowing you to blend the character into a background seamlessly. He used a chunk of Mandarin jargon that I’m unfortunately unfamiliar with, nor am I familiar with the phrases in english, so take my phrasing with a word of salt:

1) Find/make/use a 16-square box.

image

Boring, I know.

2) Stretch it to your liking to determine the most important plane your character will be interacting with.

image

I used this plane because it’s an extreme example of how the grid can be used. Here’s an example of a sketch I did earlier with the 16-square grid being utilised as a normal 45 degree floor plan:

image

Anyway, back to my blank example, the angle of the 16-square will be mainly determined by your camera angle! The one I did is for a wall. The grid is mainly there to help you project the shapes of the object you want to draw! To help illustrate things, here’s an example of a L-shaped sofa or whatever leaning against the “wall” of perspective grid:

image

The lecturer basically said that it’s the easiest to draw the character/pose/object out in a side-view first, so that you can identify the position of each of the prominent points when you translate it into the 3D/grid plane. His explanation was borderline mathlike and was going into the area of geometry, which I’m not very good at. But basically, it’s about finding out how much “space” each part of your drawn object can take up, much like drawing geometrical shapes in maths class!

3) Draw a side-view of the pose you want.

image

Top left you can see I scribbled out the side-view of a horrible excuse of a pose. The most important things you have to find out is the angles and planes of note from the pose. Mr. Krenz mentioned equating the notable planes as an unfolded surfaces of a cardboard box; you can tilt at certain points, but it has identifiable angles, which is important for you to determine the angles of your torso, legs, etc and helps solidify your perspective angles when you draw em.

For the pose I drew, the points of note are: the head is leaned towards the “wall”, and the hand goes straight down; but notice how the back is curved and the butt is not close to the wall. This is important.

You’ll also notice that I drew a horrible excuse of a box projected out of the four squares in the 16-square grid. This is the important part! There’s actually some maths shenanigans as to the proportion of the box and how it relates to your anatomy, but I think the safest way to go is to assume a box projected out of 4 squares is equivalent to a torso. so that box = the size of one torso. that means everything from above the hip in the pose should fit into the box.

Remember how I harped on the position of the butt and hands and the angles? This one is for the next step:

4) Draw in basic spheres and shapes. Ignore anatomy for now.

image

If you see each part of the body as shapes (spheres, squares, rectangles), it’s easier to plot them out in relation to the angle of the perspective grid. Over here, you can see that the shapes are drawn in correspondence with the perspectives. I won’t cover much on this part, mostly because there’s already a hundred other perspective-box-shaped-how-to-translate-to-human tutorials out there that explains it a great deal better than I do. The vital point to take out of this part is that you must plot according to the position of each key point– the back curve, the hand angle, etc onto the geometric shapes when drawn. The box should help you out in this I hope.

5) Finally! Fleshing it out!

Yep. This is also where anatomy fixing happens, if you see the need.

image

Notice how the angle of the lad’s mantle, vambraces, shin guards, etc corresponds to the geometric shapes scribbled out earlier. This step becomes immensely easier with practice, but basically the gist is that the geometry lines help you determine the direction of the clothes and stuff you have to flesh out.

6) Not necessary, but put in shadows and shading to help solidify the scene.

image

I thinned out the scribbles here and dabbed on a dark color to immediately portray that the kid’s hiding in the shadow of some doorway. See, immediately there’s a background! And he does look like he’s sitting there and no immediate worries of how the anatomy or angles of things out of place, because the 16-square has already determined it for you beforehand.

Conclusion!?

I think the important part is that personally, this is easier for me to get into instead of looking purely at theories of horizon lines, vanishing points, etc because honestly, it is very difficult to see those if you’re drawing character-oriented pieces.  While this technique is not foolproof and is actually more complicated (read: there’s actual math shenanigans in it that i didn’t get into), I think this is a good starting point for artists of any level to start training their eye to see in order to make characters better blend into the backgrounds.

Hope this helped and sorry for the length!
