well, that was easy 15 epochs till 100% accuracy.

17 march 2023- painstakingly worked on a midterm, sent a bunch of e-mails, listened to hozier, gave up on writing and decided to read instead!

24 march 2023- spent most of the day in my carrel internally screaming about dramatic monologues

30 march 2023- miltoning, paradise losing, paradise regaining, occasionally procrastinating

16 april 2023- prepping for a presentation on tuesday. i ordered an espresso tonic and hated it, but the café was lovely. looking forward to go back (and give up on the fancy sounding drinks)!

30 April 2023- I'm in New York for a forum! Couldn't get in a lot of work as I was mostly running around. I expect the next few days to be exceptionally busy :)

20 May 2023- and we're back to the decadents! read the yellow book for pleasure, and read about the yellow book for research. not the most multifarious day, but a very fun one nonetheless.

2 July, 2023- I have officially been working as a research assistant for a month now! It's been so engaging to work on a book project for a faculty member of mine, and the fact that I get my own office for the summer is just the cherry on top <3.

29 July 2023- my abstract got accepted! i'm now working to turn it into a communicable paper, which involves going back and re-reading my sources on dramatic monologues and taking walks to locate pretty buildings as motivation (:

Well, Started off with chemistry- Bio.. Great chapter tho. Need to revise as exam are starting soon.

this is basically a brief recap of how i spent my first (official) month as a phd candidate. too many walks at the beach, too many hours spent researching for my first paper and... my first proposal for a seminar! i'm kinda nervous because public speaking isn't sth i'm yet used to but we'll get there. as frightening as presenting a small piece of what my thesis will tackle is (what if i'm completely wrong and my research is meaningless? what if everything i've written is nonsense?), i really wanna enjoy this opportunity as much as possible.
(this is the silly little attempt of a 23-year-old phd candidate to document her scary? exciting? journey while crafting a thesis in bosnian-american literature. we'll see how long this blog lasts for)

9.6.2023 - scenes from campus :)
somehow, it has already been three weeks since my program started. this week is a busy one between writing a draft for a fellowship application, doing dna extractions in the lab, meeting with a science and technology studies group to read case studies, completing a literature review, and of course managing coursework. it has been a grind, but morale is high and i'm really enjoying learning so much so quickly!

This week was a fucking grind. Today was lovely though! I had eggs featuring fresh basil from my garden for breakfast, found some time to walk around campus, and wrapped up a lot of work in time for the weekend.

Up too early. That being said I can't complain about watching the sunrise and cracking open the window to some of the first cool, fall air we've gotten here. I have the first exam for my environmental engineering class later today, a chem problem set due tonight, and then some SOPs I need to write for my advisor by tomorrow. As long as I can squeeze a nap in somewhere, I'll be happy.
first year of my phd and im thinking about potential directions for a post-doc. that's the devil talking

I don't know that I will ever enjoy 5:00 am study sessions, but I do love the cozy, focused solitude. This morning I was preparing for a chemistry exam, which--thankfully, and to my surprise--went very well. The rest of the day was much less stressful, and I managed to handle a few lab tasks, start on some problem sets, and go for a run. I'm currently reading Steppenwolf (albeit at a glacial pace) and enjoying it quite a lot--Hesse is one of my favorite authors. I hope you all end the week on a high note and enjoy the weekend :)

Lots of this lately. Been recovering from a bit of a sick spell, so I've been working when I can and sleeping when I have to. Grateful for Goose's company while I work and read :)
