hey so let’s rant for a second, it being aromantic awareness week and all

the social hierarchy of relationships according to the world is actually garbage

as an aromantic person, i do not experience romantic attraction. i do not happen to want a romantic relationship. some aros might, and that’s great. but lots don’t. i’m one of them that does not.

i’m ? just so over the way people ? treat platonic love ?

friendships are lesser. friends are “JUST friends” and romance is “MORE than friends”. you consult your romantic partner when you make a decision but if you consult your friends, people say ‘they’re just your friends, what they think doesn’t matter’.

what’s the difference? you’re telling me that a friend you kiss is inherently more valuable than one you don’t? you’re telling me that people can only be intimate and rely on each other if they’re ‘dating’?

you see friends that are very close and you say “they must be dating in secret, no friends are that close to each other.”

i say my dream relationship is just to have a very close best friend and you say that’s not a very big goal? do you know how hard it is to really find someone like that for you without the promise of dating or sex attached?

this aromantic spectrum awareness week, please remember that platonic love is important. please stop saying “just friends” or “more than friends”. no type of love or relationship is inherently more or less important than any other. let people prioritize and define their own relationships. _________________________________________________________

Ok, so I love this personally, but I’ve been toying with ways that personhood in the MBDverse is cursed by narrow interpretations and part of MB’s whole deal is trying to establish that there’s more than one category on the person spectrum.

I’ve been thinking about how bots are in this weird position of being sentient but also not having the same drive for…. Autonomy, let’s say, as organic beings do.

And that’s ok. Apparently you can be sentient *and* have a different relationship to your autonomy than humans or constructs do.

So yes, ART’s a complete control freak - but it’s a monitoring/navigation/environmental system. Everything it’s designed to do would incline it to be like that. I don’t think acknowledging that bots might not want acknowledged personhood the way constructs and humans would makes its selfhood less valid or worthy of respect.

This description of this category of nonbinary gender expression/identity described in this post feels to me like the relationship bots in the series would have about being persons. They like performing their functions, and have opinions and aspirations that are arguably more just them doing what they’re built to do, (leaving aside whether we’re any different in that respect) but the angst of personhood might not be part of the typical bot mindset bc when humans and constructs are thinking about personhood, they are assigning a lot of innate intrinsic value to a social construct that doesn’t have to apply to them.

In other words, it’s not only that personhood has a category other than human, but that that personhood (which - as a social construct is in part characterized by the desire to be recognized as such) is a subcategory of something else - sapience, maybe? - and has other options existing beside it. So imagine [being worthy of respect] as a super category, and beneath it, a person/thing binary. I’m saying that sapient bots as shown in the MBDverse demonstrate that that binary might not be appropriate - that it’s not only a spectrum but that human regard for the category of “person” is both limited and biased in a way not dissimilar from how strongly gendered people (in any direction) may overlook the possibility of beings who “just work here.”

contrary to popular belief not everyone has an innate sense of internal gender or care to have one or seek a name for it, some people go their whole lives without questioning their occupation in one of two gender roles, but for some people, if pressed, they don’t feel that internal sense of ‘i am a woman’ or ‘i am a man’, and in that case i feel the switch over to transgender vs cisgender relies on active identification of a gender other than the one they were assigned. if someone’s like ‘idk dude I just work here’ then that’s valid

The Making Of A Bracelet. Yes I Really Am This Organized When Making These Bracelets. Especially This
The Making Of A Bracelet. Yes I Really Am This Organized When Making These Bracelets. Especially This

The making of a bracelet. Yes I really am this organized when making these bracelets. Especially this pattern, which has to fade between colors smoothly and consistently. I’ll open all the rings and lay them out in the right order, then weave them in order.

I call this pattern “spectrum,” and you can buy it over on my Etsy store! It’s made of colored anodized aluminum rings and black rubber rings, so it stretches.

Pardon the shots of my legs on the floor. My desk’s legs fell off, and all my funds went to ordering a laser cutter.

A Pair Of Heat-colored Titanium Dragon Scale Bracelets That I Finished Up Last Night. Doing The Colors

A pair of heat-colored titanium dragon scale bracelets that I finished up last night. Doing the colors on these is always a joy--you heat them up over a flame until they glow orange, and the oxidation makes a beautiful spectrum of blues and purples.

Also, it turned out I hadn't made one of these in the wide style for a long time, so I updated the Etsy listing to include that option.

Colour and light are important to our lives, even in the most artificial of settings. As such, we should take the time to appreciate what’s out there. For the bigger picture, we should understand what’s around & how it relates to us.

How Do Space Telescopes Break Down Light?

Space telescopes like Hubble and our upcoming James Webb Space Telescope use light not only to create images, but can also break light down into individual colors (or wavelengths). Studying light this way can give us a lot of detail about the object that emitted that light.  For example, studying the components of the light from exoplanets can tell us about its atmosphere’s color, chemical makeup, and temperature. How does this work?

Remember the primary colors you learned about in elementary school?

Those colors are known as the pigment or subtractive colors. Every other color is some combination of the primary colors: red, yellow, and blue.

image

Light also has its own primary colors, and they work in a similar way. These colors are known as additive or light colors.

image

TVs make use of light’s colors to create the pictures we see. Each pixel of a TV screen contains some amount of red, green and blue light. The amount of each light determines the overall color of the pixel. So, each color on the TV comes from a combination of the primary colors of light: red, green and blue.

image

Space telescope images of celestial objects are also a combination of the colors of light.

image

Every pixel that is collected can be broken down into its base colors. To learn even more, astronomers break the red, green and blue light down into even smaller sections called wavelengths.

This breakdown is called a spectrum.

image

With the right technology, every pixel of light can also be measured as a spectrum.

image

Images show us the big picture, while a spectrum reveals finer details.  Astronomers use spectra to learn things like what molecules are in planet atmospheres and distant galaxies.

image

An Integral Field Unit, or IFU, is a special tool on the James Webb Space Telescope that captures images and spectra at the same time.

image

The IFU creates a unique spectrum for each pixel of the image the telescope is capturing, providing scientists with an enormous amount of valuable, detailed data. So, with an IFU we can get an image, many spectra and a better understanding of our universe.

Watch the full video where this method of learning about planetary atmospheres is explained:

The James Webb Space Telescope is our upcoming infrared space observatory, which will launch in 2021. It will spy the first galaxies that formed in the universe and shed light on how galaxies evolve, how stars and planetary systems are born and tell us about potentially habitable planets around other stars.

Given these, it’s time we afford the bi people the flexibility they could have, especially since they could be of major benefit to bridging communities in unique ways. As such, biphobia would be a way of burning useful bridges that could easily be of high benefit. Not just bisexual women belong, but bisexual men & bi in-betweens (including bi trans people) belong in the spaces also.

i want bi women in lgbt spaces.

yes, even the ones with boyfriends. yes, even the ones who’ve never been with a woman.

yes, i’d love to hear them gush about their boyfriends! i want them to be able to talk freely and feel safe!! even if i can’t relate i want to support my sisters!!!!

excluding bis because you don’t want “het” relationships in your spaces just isolates them and puts them at risk for abuse!!!!

they deserve support and resources and acceptance no matter what.

bisexual women belong in lgbt spaces!!!

Last night I started thinking what if we stop using words like femme and masc and girl and boy.

What if we just said colors?

Like "femme" would be blue and "masc" would be red and neutral(nonbinary) would be yellow

And if you're fluid you can use purple

I made sure not to put pink in the mix to avoid baby shower stuff

So in my case, instead of saying I am a girl I would say that I am cerulean

I was thinking for purple-genderfuid like

And someone who is ultra manly as we would say now would instead be called crimson or scarlet or maroon or something

If someone said fuschia it would mean they're gender fluid but usually identify more as a boy. Something like violet would mean they usually identify as more of a girl.

I'm just using femme masc and girl boy as a way to explain the spectrum but the goal is that thise terms be eradicated

This will take a good deal of time though to get used to though.

I'm also concerned now with the affect it will have on art, clothing, flags, and any number or things

Like a tree is green so does that mean that tree is in between feminine and androgynous

No it's just a tree

Pr some art teacher will say 'this artist used chartreuse as a representation of themselves" which may not be the case

Chartreuse can just be a cool color

I thought this would a cool way to dismantle the way gender relates to sex because colors are on a spectrum and so is gender <3.

ANDRO

In between. In between

Feminine. Masculine

-------------Gender fluidity------------

It's kind if like a semi circle in my head but this is open to change

Please, please don’t refer to autism as a mental illness (or any other type of illness for that matter).

Mental illness, while often incurable, are disorders that can be treated with medication and therapies. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disability that cannot be treated, only accommodated for and supported.

I see a lot of well-meaning allistics listing autism as a mental illness and it really worries me. There is nothing “wrong” with an autistic brain - it’s just a brain that is developed in a significantly different way to an allistic one.

As soon as we start allowing this mix-up of language, we also let people try to “cure” us with fake miracle pills, organic toothpaste, and abusive behaviour therapies. Please think about how you word these things.

Feeling Lost

I try to do the best I can to try and find people that have the right mindset over people and equality and justice for others but when I think I find them, they end up disappointing me. I used to be more hesitant about things but hope to be getting better. I wonder if I might be wrong. Usually I see groups fight for a cause but there’s a bias or preference that compromises them that frustrates me. People need to realize that despite the struggles, no matter how small or big it might be, should matter. For those that have harmful ideas or mindsets should be educated respectfully but firmly. I just don’t know who the good side is anymore.
