Jack’s new obsession

This is part on of a series that I’m still working on. There aren’t a lot of stories about Jack (on most platforms) and figured I would do my part and add my own work!

"Hello, we booked a room about a week ago and we were supposed to get here a few days ago but we were having some car troubles, would we be able to still get our room?"

"Oh, I'm sorry sir but were closing for the winter"

"Please ma'am, it's for my daughter's birthday weekend and our home is so far away" My dad begged the lady at the service desk who tried to reason with him. I looked up from my book when a man started to approach us. A man that was definitely too old for me but my god was he attractive.

"Hi, I couldn't help but overhear that there was a problem over here?"

My dad turned towards the man and shook his head "Oh, I'm not trying to start a ruckus, no need for security"

The man heartily chuckled, "No, no, I'm not security, I'm just watching over the hotel over the winter"

This peaked my father's attention as he exchanged glances between the man and the secretary.

"Mr. Torance!" Another man walked into the scene and shook hands with the way to old hottie next to my dad.

"Yes, hi, just talking to these folks who just came in"

"Oh, sorry sir, but we're closing up shop for winter"

"Yes, I know that now, but mister, I promised my daughter we'd go here for the weekend of her birthday" He pointed to me, who was staring at the same page in my book while I listened to the conversation, everybody's eyes were on me.

"Hey" I waved at no one in particular but was gazing at Mr. Torance, who was smiling towards me with a big grin and a short wave, the most from anyone else in the room.

The secretary was glad to have rid of my father being bothersome and walked away with a stack of papers down a long hallway.

"Well, again, I'm sorry but I cannot allow you to stay here," He turned towards me again, "Happy birthday dear, maybe next time"

I nodded somewhat solemnly, closed my book, and started to walk off to wait in the car for my dad.

A hand grabbed me gently and started negotiating "Now Mr. Ullman, perhaps we can discuss this. I mean, you only turn," He looked down on me, while still holding my wrist, the one that connected to my tense body that was blushing everywhere it could.

"18, sir" He smiled devilishly.

"-You only turn 18 once. Look, we have enough food, they can at least stay for the weekend, then we can send them off if the weather is still good"

"Mr. Torrance, that is a lot of work and responsibility"

"I can pay too!" My father but in.

Mr. Ullman rubbed his temples and groaned.

"Alright, alright, but you must leave this weekend"

"Thank you, sir, thank you" my dad shook his hand.

"Yes, it's quite my pleasure, would you like to join the tour I was about to take Mr. Torrance here on then?"

"Of course, I'll just leave my things here"

"Name's Jack" He let go of my wrist and put his hand in front of me.

"Hello Jack, I'm Vi" (pronounced Vuh-Eye) I shook his hand and shyly looked away from his mischievous gaze.

"So pleased to meet you, darling" He let go of me and walked over to the other men.

I followed along with the group, eventually meeting Jack's wife, Wendy, and their son, Danny. Wendy and Danny were led off to the kitchen, but I stayed with the other men and my father.

I walked particularly close to Jack, every time he wasn't being directly spoken to he was talking about his days in Vermont and about some of his other writings he's worked on.

I was so excited that he was a writer because I love reading, I explained that to him and he was absolutely thrilled. He suggested that if he gets far in his writing I can read it during my stay.

At some point our group met back with Wendy, Danny, and Mr. Dick Hallorann. Danny stayed with the cook, Dick, while Wendy joined us for the rest of the tour. Jack and Wendy were shown their apartment and my dad and I were shown our rooms. Which were two separate rooms joined by a door on the connecting wall.

I knew that the overlook hotel was beautiful but this is a million times better than the pictures. My dad and I are so lucky that Mr. Torrance was so kind to let us stay even though no guests were allowed.

The amazing pacifist who will bravely defend democracy with a weapon if necessary when it comes to an emergency. Adapted from the brilliant Albert Einstein.

mod

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.

Albert Einstein

I am not only a pacifist but a militant pacifist. I am willing to fight for peace. Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war.

Albert Einstein

We always say we rehabilitate and educate with compassion and understanding, but when it really comes down to it, it's going to be hard!

Red lines are not to be crossed, full stop

mod

We are not into culture war and panic, we are only into the clear signal of denial that democracy is weak. To all those who follow the path of blindness, hatred and misanthropy!
