“Body Horror,” as an official designation, is a term that comes from horror cinema but its literary origins can be traced back as far as Frankenstein. It is a trope that springs from primal fears—from the knowledge of oneself as a physical object and the consciousness of pain—and its roots wind through the Gothic, to the fin de siècle and the birth of science fiction. As a sub-genre, it broadly encompasses the concept of bodily violation, whether that be via mutilation, zombification, possession, or disease, but arguably one of its most pervasive themes is that of transformation. From Ovid to Cronenberg, transformation occupies an anxious corner in so much of film and literature that it more or less forms a tradition all its own. Folklore and myth are littered with metamorphosis—Daphne twisting into a bay tree, Alice in Wonderland with her Eat Me’s and Drink Me’s—and its impact is frequently an unsettling one. It is a fairy-tale punishment, a warning to naughty children, a reminder of the body’s unreliability.
[…] I think that writing about women goes hand in hand with horror writing. The female body is a nexus of pain almost by design, but it is also potentially monstrous—an object traditionally subjugated, both for its presumed weakness and its perceived threat. The mutations and transformations of horror writing are uniquely qualified to evoke this: the difficulty and unreliability of the female body, its duality as an object both to be feared for and to fear.
When Daphne transforms into a bay tree, the moment is one of both horror and deliverance. She is no longer what she once was, but the metamorphosis frees her from the unwanted attention of Apollo. This duality of horror and emancipation sits, I think, at the core of female transformation. Within the horror genre (and arguably everywhere else), bodies read as female are always subject to pain, and to the threat of violation. Becoming something else—a tree, a freak, a monster—preempts this pain and reduces the risk of harm. It may even, if the transformation is the right one, allow you to cause harm in return.

idk man. i just think itd be really cool if sign language classes were mandatory throughout primary school. yeah because it would make communication with deaf kids and autistic/nonverbal kids much easier. and those kids would be accessible to the others so they could make friends and have healthy relationships. yeah. and kids would eat that shit up man. like their own little secret language? they love that.
Okay but something that makes me (irrationally, I know) sad sometimes is that eddie has so much potential as a character outside of romance altogether and I like… don’t see many people talk about that?? Maybe an occasional post will pop up but not very often. everything is always based on whether or not someone thinks he’s secretly gay instead of talking about his ptsd, issues with running away from problems, extreme bouts of anger, the way he treats women (I’m sorry, I’ve never seen him be a good husband or boyfriend), the way he kind of uses his friends without realizing it, how he never copes with his traumas, and I could go on. And this is no way a post to bash him, I think he could be such an intriguing character, but I wish more people saw him for more than “lol repressed gay” which is not something that’s ever even been slightly hinted at in canon.
Honestly, with all the tradwife cooking trash circulating, it only makes me love B Dylan Hollis more for baking vintage recipes while being openly gay, making sexual jokes, and screaming at the ingredients. He's the antithesis of every soft-spoken cishet woman cooking for her husband and children. You don't have to be an idyllic cottagecore housewife to cook.
Must Harry Potter be good? Is it not enough that it is gay, dark and magical? That it tells us life is worth living and death is worth dying because of love?
I think it's time we as a species realize that harry potter was never good. it was just marketable and gave impressionable kids a lot to project onto.
Saying this bc we are far, far from getting it right:
The 'bi' in 'bisexual' doesn't mean 'men and women' it means same and other. Misunderstanding this is the main reason people wrongly create and support the idea of being 'pan' over bi. The willful misconstruction of what bi means is and contributes to biphobia.
Bi used to, and in practice still does, also apply to gender. Not just attraction. The majority of 'bi' people feel as if they are or can occupy more than one gender- both 'the one you expect them to be' and another.
The 'bi' in bisexual can be understood to be much like the 'bi' in ambiguous. It just means 'both' one thing and another, or more than one thing.
If you are attracted to people the same gender as you, but also people who are a different gender as you, congrats, you're bi. If you don't want to think so, please examine your beliefs about bisexuality and why you would be uncomfortable with it as a label...because biphobia is probably a big culprit.
Ironically irt that last point, many bi ppl are attracted to bi-genderedness / gender nonconformity in others, meaning that while we are attracted to our gender and others, we are selectively only attracted to people who embody a spectrum/duality of gender in themselves. (ex: many of us are largely uninterested in gender conforming/cishet folks and we joke that we largely prefer masculine women and feminine men. That's not literal, but you get the idea. So it's really irritating that the LGBT+ scene largely treats us as 'Straight+'.
agere stories i want to see more of:
tantrums. shouting. screaming. throwing stuff. especially if they weren't "allowed" to have tantrums as a kid, or are super passive/a pushover normally. let them scream.
stories where they confess that they age regress and people do think they're weird for it
stories where they have potty accidents and need to deal with it. stories where they're afraid to wear diapers because they don't want to be seen as weak. stories where they don't want to sleep because they might regress and wet the bed.
stories where they hurt someone, either by accident or on purpose
stories where flips struggle to regress because people are mean if they're not caregiving all the time. stories where they struggle to regress because they're the reliable caregiver. stories where they struggle to regress because they're ashamed of it and caregiving is easier. stories where they struggle to regress because they love caregiving and don't want to step away to take care of themselves
stories where they struggle to regress because they're avoiding it. stories where they can't regress because they want to avoid something but it keeps breathing down their neck and they can't run away from it this time
stories where they dont want to worry anyone and think they're getting away with it and end up worrying everyone anyway
stories where they cry, they cry, they cry, they cry, they cry, they cry, they cry, and they can't stop it no matter how hard they try,
stories without a happy ending
alex has such a reputation for being icy and unmoving but her eyes are so expressive like just because shes not crying doesnt mean shes not falling apart

Contrary to popular belief, abandoned WIPs are crucial to the writer ecosystem, as they become the fertile soil from which completed works grow. Without them, the landscape would be sterile and barren
So we definitely need more positive representation of DID, but you know what would be funny? Mildly inconvenient representation of DID.
Oh the world is ending and you need to know about this one specific thing? Yeah I have a guy for that but he doesn't feel like fronting right now
Sorry what's happening rn is this the bad guy? Yeah I just switched in idk what's going on

New Sam hc
Sam is REALLY GOOD at doing hair. Braids, twists, wigs, you name it and he’s got it down to perfection. That man will give life to every baby hair with delicate swirls that would make Vil weep with jealousy. You cannot look at those chunky dreads and tell me he don’t know how to care for them 👀
I bet you he’s got a whole ass section in the back that just a hair store with literally every length you can think of. Puffs, buns, nightcaps, silks, durags, my guy’s got it all.
Look I just want uncle S to come braid my hair and feed me rice and plantains 😭
