Seeing someone write an essay about how school shooters are intentionally misrepresented in the media, just for someone to reblog and tag it with "clown core" as a show of SUPPORT for the original post is the most WILD thing I have seen today. Why am I not surprised at all by this

here’s a hot take: giftwrap is dumb, 95% of the time you can just hand someone the thing and accomplish the same task. Society has conditioned us to love wrapping shit up for no reason, probably by gift wrap industry people.

I keep seeing people use this image as a reaction to people's original posts:

I Keep Seeing People Use This Image As A Reaction To People's Original Posts:

Which I think is really incorrect, because with an original post they haven't come up to ur window, u've come up to their window.

So I made this, as a more accurate reaction for original posts:

Honestly useful to ppl like me who only started on the site recently, thank you op!

Welcome twitter users fleeing the absolute cesspool that twitter is going to become as Musk gets his way with his awful ideas! Things are better here, and hey, if you're an old user coming back, they've actually improved shit!

Here's a list of important notes for tumblr usage:

Don't censor words, particularly trigger warnings. Tumblr has a very functional blacklist (found in your settings) that can filter by post content and/or tags. But the word needs to actually be present for the filter to work. Censoring words like r*pe is actively harmful to people attempting to avoid those topics.

Use tags liberally, you have as many as you want, but don't tag unrelated shit. You'll get reported for spam really fast if you do.

Set an avatar and reblog things, otherwise you look like a bot.

You are not obligated to have your real name anywhere in your blog/bio/etc. Most people here use handles.

You can turn your ask box & anons on or off if you are experiencing any kind of harassment. You can also turn off replies on your posts, and turn off reblogs if you need to.

Tumblr has keyboard shortcuts on desktop. You can find them listed under the blog/account menu. Go learn them, they make life so much easier.

Reblog things. Seriously. Also set your dash in chronological order. You can maintain several blogs if need be, but reblogging things is normal, expected, and how you pass along stuff you enjoy.

The majority of people aren't reading your card/dni/blog bio before they reblog stuff. Posts get passed around and the OP often isn't the focal point of the post. Learn to live with it.

Fic writers: you have unlimited words, do not post fics as images.

Reblogs with comments/tags are encouraged. It's not like twitter's QRTs. The OP will see everything there. Know that before you comment.

You have a queue. This means you can set posts up ahead of time to run while you're busy. You can also completely ignore this and just spam your follows whenever you're online. Both are very commonplace

It's not weird to go through someone's blog and reblog old posts. That's actually very normal. If you add /chrono to the end of a tumblr page then you can view all the posts in chronological order to make this easier.

"Spam" liking and reblogging isn't a thing that is a problem. This is invented by people I do not understand. If someone claims this is a problem, they can learn how to turn off or manage their notifications.

The only form of promotional posts that tumblr has is "blaze". There is no ad targeting or any kind of invasions of privacy with blaze. You just get subjected to w/e someone wants to show you. If you want to give tumblr some money to help the company keep going and providing an alternative to twitter, it's not a bad way to do it. You can make people look at cat photos.

Also, we have fun colors here. Plus actual formatting ability. Use it!

People lie on here for fun. Don't accept everything you see at face value, check the reblogs/replies or google something if you're skeptical! Critical thinking is good!

Above all else, be chill, use your block button if you need to, and have fun.

Oh my God!

I’m SOOO EXCITED to share this with you for the first time. My first single FEELS is coming out soon.

This song was born from the depths of my feelings and reflects a difficult relationship that was slowly fading away, leaving behind a soul-tearing pain. But this pain is not the end. It's about the path to healing, about how to find yourself again after a fall. I am immensely glad that I can finally reveal this story to you. ❤️‍🩹

I've always loved Tumblr for its unique aesthetic and the people who fill it. I sincerely hope that everyone who stumbles upon this song will find something of their own in it, something close.

Buckle up, because we're going to the LONELY HEARTS CLUB.

I love you! I hope you're all right. 🩵🌟 Catch a small fragment of the instrumental version. FEELS COMING SOON.

With love, you’re Phoennix. 🖤

(Reblogging this because this is the post that finally inspired me to go searching)

I’ve been seeing the tag r/196 a lot from Reddit refugees and such, so being a former redditor myself (I stopped using the platform very much before it crashed and burned) I looked into it.

It’s a subreddit where the only rule is if you show up, you have to post something before you leave. The top posts of all time are incredible Reddit content— the third top is a condom full of spaghetti, the fourth is “like if you genuinely fucking despise this website,” and five and six seem to be back to back posts by the same guy, no idea how far apart time-wise they were posted, with five second videos of pilots captioned “go fuck that guy’s mom” and “roger, on my way to fuck that guy’s mom.” The “hot” posts truly made my heart ache for this community, because it was a whole lot of “for old time’s sake” and “one last one before this place closes down” and such. It locked around 20 days ago.

Let me be clear: overall, tumblr is much better than Reddit, and all you 196ers will be much happier and safer here, especially since we all sort of follow that rule here anyways. However, for all the bashing we‘ve done on Reddit and redditors, which we were correct to do about political subreddits and the horrible trolls and people just using it as a place to make personal attacks… Reddit had a lot of really good communities on it. Strong, personal, intimate, loving communities, like little villages except you could be in more than one, and it was truly special beautiful, and it’s being lost because the idiots controlling it couldn’t get themselves together and thought they were calling a bluff that just wasn’t a bluff at all.

I will not regret Reddit’s death. I will not wish for its revival. But I will mourn it. I will mourn with you, r/196, and I will argue with you about columns or whatever it is y’all did there. I’d love for y’all to tell me stories or fill me in on inside jokes or bits, because I love the little Reddit communities and I yearn to know everything I can about this beautiful piece of art which is being lost to time.

I cannot say it enough: redditors, TUMBLR WELCOMES YOU.

man this place seems like a really good alternative to Twitter and Reddit for real. I'm beginning to love this place. And some people even recognise me here :3

Still gonna stay on the sinking ships tho, until we finally hit rock bottom

if the boops taught me anything it's that this site is 100% more fun when I interact with people, and the risk factor is actually way lower than I thought it was. I wasn't on here before tumblr culture died but so fucking help me I will make sure it is revived in my secluded corner of the internet

Quick reminder to the anons in my inbox:

You do not have to make up a moral argument for why you don’t like my works. You’re allowed to not like them “just because.” It does not make you a bad person if you don’t like my posts, even if people you like and follow happen to do so.

And you certainly do not need to find proof that I am a bad person in order to justify your dislike of my works.

For future reference, please just block me and keep it pushing. 👍🏻

Anonymous asks are now turned off. Sorry, everyone, they took it too far and ruined it for me.

Love when a fandom shifts from calling characters Boyfriend's or Girlfriends in posts to calling them Husbands and Wives, its as if they actually got married at some point and we all just missed it

"His husband-" Omg congratulations! so sad I missed the ceremony I was doing my exams <3

"Her wife-" Hope the happy couple likes my wedding gift when it comes in the mail <3
