the eldest great-grandchild of the old king jaehaerys & good queen alysanne, named for jaehaerys and valerion, rider of the mighty she-dragon silverwing.

vaelerys' irrational dislike, former childish hatred, of rhaenys targaryen was caused by young vaelerys' staunch belief that she was destined to ride the dragon meleys. this belief was simply grounded in her childish desires and imagination, but it festered due to other issues; such as with anger and emotional regulation. though rhaenys and meleys bonded before vaelerys' birth (rhaenys is her first cousin, once removed; thus from the elder generation) ... it still enraged her. she knew it was irrational, but the emotions stayed, she actually grew to resent the dislike though she couldn't control it. this complicated, one-sided, dynamic finally abated in 107AC when vaelerys was chosen by her great-grandmother's dragon silverwing and became a rider in her own right. + both alysanne, silverwings former rider, and alyssa targaryen, meleys' former rider, are amongst vaelerys' ancestral idols.

vaelerys' grandmother, daenerys targaryen, was the secondborn child of the old king jaehaerys and his sister-wife the good queen alysanne, whilst aeron's grandparents are the fourth-born baelon targaryen and his sister-wife, the fifth-born alyssa targaryen. they were both born the same year, 90AC, with vaelerys being a handful of months aerons senior; he was born in the close of the year. she was born in blackhaven to parents laeron targaryen and his wife athora celtigar, and aeron was born in kings landing to viserys i targaryen and his then-wife mya westerling. due to that distance, they didn't cross paths too frequently, save for certain family gatherings; funerals, nameday feasts, and weddings; particularly in the year 103AC wherein their collective family lost many of their kin. aeron's travel and cartographic explorations had begun a handful of years before vaelerys' main visit to kings landing and her bonding with silverwing in 107AC, but the two have become closer as they aged .. aeron's visits home in between his projects allowed them to develop a relationship. + some time between vaelerys' claiming of silverwing, and the year 110AC, vaelerys and aeron did have a sexual relationship; amicable and based in the physical realm exclusively.
