Variks - Tumblr Posts
Guardian Academy Headcanon: Often the academy goes on field trips with the juniors and seniors to either old Guardian raid sites that are now historical landmarks or places like the Reef which they met Mara Sov who gave them a lecture then let Petra take full charge in being their guide which was later passed down to Uldren who was visibly annoyed because Variks wasn't around to help out.
-Raid locations almost always turn into cool field trip spots. The only one that is left is The one where Riven’s happens, just because the Dreaming City is a bit of a mess
-Variks purposely leaves Uldren to deal with the kids/teenagers because 1.) he doesn’t think they’ll want to talk to him because he’s Fallen(Eliksni), 2.) he does have a prison to run, and 3.) he is not always the easiest to understand. But if kids are visiting he’ll know Uldren or Petra will come by to show them the Prison, so he’ll always have an event going on.
-When Uldren started doing the lectures, he was first really annoyed with these kids, but they eventually grew on him, and now he’s indifferent to them
-The kids really like the Queen. She only really gives a lecture and shows them the throne room, and stuff. She’ll also answer any questions and sort of tell them about stuff like the Crows, Queen’s Wraith, Corairs, etc. They really like her though because they admire her and her people because of what they have gone through and withstood
-The times Variks is around to help, he’ll lecture on the prisoners. Especially the high profile ones like the Mind Minotaur, Keksis, Silok, Skolas, Val’alrun, etc. He will also give descriptions on what and how to do the Prison because he knows these kids will one day be old enough to fight.
-Variks also, much to everyone’s suprise, really emjpys showing the kids around and talking about everything. He just really loves it
(If you couldn’t tell, I absolutely adore Variks, so thank you for this ask)
-The Leviathan raid zone is even an open field trip location. Emperor Calus will talk to the kids, and at first it was incredibly strange, but now they can visit his palace
-If the young ones are on a trip, Zavala will send at least 2 fireteams ahead to clear the areas, and kind of stick around just in case any people want to show up and try to hurt the kids
-Besides raid locations, they’ll visit old strike zones, empty crucible maps, and places like Felwinter Peak. They’ll also visit planets for overnight trips and outdoor trips.
-Older kids will get to more trips into a bit more dangerous areas. Like the Infinite Forest where Osiris or Sagira will talk, the Dreadnaught where Eros will lecture. Places that are a bit more high profile
I love hearing these ideas, and am really happy you decide to share them with me because it is just such a cool idea. I wish I had a bit better drawing skill to draw some of this, but hopefully I’ll get better so I can.
Thank you for letting me build on it too as I really adore this idea. It’s really lovely to see stuff like this in my ask, so never feel bad about asking.
Variks, The Loyal: Are you looking for the prison?
Me: No I’m looking for my heart because you seem to have stolen it
Variks: What
Me: You heard me

A good bug made a reappearance in my sketchbook yesterday :) So, I just had to add a little color too.
Fav characters?
(I’m assuming you want favorite Destiny characters. If this is not the case, just hit me with another ask.)
1. Osiris. It took me a long time to warm up to him, but once I did he jumped to the spot of my favorite Destiny character. I respect his ideas and how he wanted to know more about our enemies even though he became obsessed and got exiled for it. I also liked how in Season of the Dawn, it showed us more to him than that grumpy uncle and I really enjoyed how happy he was when he found out that there was a way to bring back Saint. Best grumpy uncle ever for me. I do wish they would have treated him better in his DLC especially after there was kind of a legend around him back in D1. Like dead*ss, Osiris is regarded as one of the most powerful guardians ever and we rarely got to see him.
2. Variks. He crept in and stole my heart right off the bat. When playing House of Wolves back in D1, I thought he sounded so cool and when I found out Dee Bradley Baker voiced him, I liked him even more. Also what made me like him even more was reading his lorebook in D2. This dude had to endure years of insults directed at him by Awoken, Humans, and guardians alike, yet he never seemed to hesitate to help. Hell, he tried to warn us about the Red Legion and was became upset that he wasn’t able to get the message through. Plus he is trying his best to unite the Eliksni again, despite seeing the majority of his people fall into madness. Now I don’t excuse what he did, but he was being influenced by the Fanatic the same way Uldren was. Overall, I think he is really cool and I am glad he’s coming back, hopefully, we don’t have to kill him though.
3. Zavala and Ikora. These two share the spot as I find both of them amazing characters and I wish Bungie would have used them more instead of relying on Cayde for everything. I admire how strong they have been through literally everything at this point and honestly, they both deserve all the love in the world. They are the strongest leaders I have seen from any game and they deserve so much respect. They also are great mom and dad type characters, because even though they fight, they still can come together to help and assist us and the people. We respect Ikora and Zavala in this house, and if you don’t that’s really not cool ngl.
4. Jolyon Till the Rachis. So he is not in-game, he has only ever appeared or been mentioned in lore, but still, he has become a big favorite of mine. So if you don’t know, he is the creator of the Lord of Wolves, one of his pastimes is taking enemy weapons and remaking them into something to be used by Awoken and guardians. He also has been through so much sh*t at this point yet still remains strong to lead the Crows in Uldren’s absence. He went to the Balck Garden for his best friend(or lover depending on how you see them) and came back with massive trauma from it, including scary *ss nightmares, but he never let that stop him from assisting the Awoken people. He had to watch said best friend(or lover) descend into madness. Then went Uldren went off the deep end, he had to go fetch him and realize that Uldren didn’t even remember him, or any of their time together. This man is so cool and I wish he would show up in-game and hopefully, he makes an appearance or something when Guardian Uldren shows up.
These are the main favs and hopefully, none of them end up dead.

Today in Destiny Inktober the prompt is favorite NPC. I chose Variks the Loyal.
He’s going to be so interesting to see in Beyond Light in a story context!

Beyond Light is tomorrow
Beyond Light is tomorrow
AND SINCE NO ONE IS BEING HAPPY ABOUT IT HAVE THIS

ITS TOMORROW!!!!!
You wake in a dramatic place. It seems that way anyway, you think, dramatic.
The fear of waking and knowing *nothing* is a panic so deep that you shiver, exhaling a heavy racking breath. You have no name, plunging down into an empty darkness within trying to find any vestige of what you were—anything, anything, anything. But nothing comes. Just that first formative sense of illumination followed by a breath that feels like it’s been taken after far too long. It fills you entirely and for a moment, you cling to that calmness. Looking around you.
Great banners hang taut from huge, bulging structures done in crimson and azure. It’s seen better days, though, you think— craters litter dusty ground, many of the banners torn and sheered as if great claws have dragged down them. There’s a sky above you, crammed with brilliant stars swimming in languid vermillion waves. Far away stones vast as mountains silently stare back across that void. Something buzzes near you and, with preternatural awareness you did not know you had, you snatch it from the air.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you!”cries a small voice, and you snap to its source with panic and terror and a fragment of excitement. You do know when you were spoken to last (maybe you’ve never been spoken to!), but the notion of communication makes your heart sail. So, you open your fist, fixing your four eyes to them.
It’s a small thing, big enough to fit in your hand comfortably. It twirls, fidgeting with nervousness and excitement, a singular blue eye glowing brightly back at you. This— drone?— feels like it is smiling at you, even if it has no real face to speak of. A nervous smile, you think. You *laugh*. It is a deep, rumbly sound that fills this empty and dramatic place with a unique warmth. You and the drone feel it reverberate out into the silence, and then you laugh again. It feels *good*! The drone joins, it’s tinny voice almost musical.
When the laughter is gone, sailing outward to those far away starlight mountains, you turn back to your companion (yes, that feels *right*), you speak.
*What is your name?*, you ask, mouthparts clicking. Something deep down sparks inside you, something familiar. Words. Speaking. A faintest suggestion that once, words and speeches carried a weight to you, a naturalness—
“I am Clementia”, says your friend. It comes closer, just a few spans from your face. It’s brightness feels so welcoming, so familiar.
“I’m your Ghost, and you”, Clementia says twirling, “are a Guardian— my Guardian.”
When you stand from the ground of the dramatic place, turning to follow Clementias brilliance, you nearly trip over something in the dirt. It’s a great mantle, a thing of bone and metal. It was great *once*, at least, you can see that through the rust and signs of damage; one great horn scorched, the other shattered into several half-buried halves. Another flickering down deep inside you comes, hard as one of those tumbling mountains slamming into you: phantoms of burdens and designs, betrayals that stole sleep and peace from you, a final trial—
“Guardian?” Clementia hovers, pleasant as starlight.
In silence, warmed by a new purpose, you leave the place of your rebirth. Together.
WAIT SHIT I JUST REALIZED
Variks is HOUSE JUDGEMENT
WAS THAT A FUCKIN PUN???

i’m working on updating my guardians’ reference sheets but in the meantime i need to put this height comparison out into the world. thesis and her collection of eliksni situationships

been playing a lot of d2 lately & this guy’s been on my mind
My bf and I played a bit of Revenant last night and I was excited to see daddy Fikrul enter the chat. But then I went to see Eido and I absolutely was super duper excited and giddy to see her in game again. My bf was calling me gay cause I wanna go on a date with Eido. I was more excited to see my girl Eido than Fikrul.
But definitely a great line up of characters this season! Fikrul, Crow, Eido, Mithrax, Eramis, and even Variks. I always love the eliksni seasons and adding scorn to the mix makes total sense right now, especially now Fikrul is claiming to be the Kell of Kell. It's a great mix of helping Mithrax with his curse and slaying the scorn to prevent all the eliksni from turning into scorn. I can't wait to play more and read all the new lore.
I imagine Variks being the greatest grandpa to the tiny fallen babies. Telling them great stories of old Eliksni heroes and their home world Riis.
