Prompt #3: Stars
The sick, warm sensation of crimson blood seeped into Villian's jeans as they knelt, cradling Hero's limp form in their lap. Hero squirmed in their grasp, closed fists trembling. A truly pitiful sight.
"Now will you tell me who sent you?" Villain pressed; voice uncharacteristically gentle.
"Or-organization." Hero coughed, gasping as the silver blade was yanked from their chest. They attempted to sit up, Villain pulling them close.
"Shh, you did so well." They cooed, carding a slender hand through their sweat-covered hair.
"V-villain? Can I.."
'Yes, Hero, anything. What can I give you?"
"I-" They coughed, scarlet blood filling their throat.
"Stars."
Villian sat, cradling their form for a moment before comprehension plastered their face and they glanced up. Sure enough, the tree they were under was blocking the view of the night sky. Villian gently stood, Hero's expected exclamations absent. A short brisk walk to a grassy hill left the sky open and exposed, stars burning unusually bright above. Hero's face softened, eyes dimming as the stars reflected back from their tears. They coughed once, a meek convulsion, and the blood stopped draining from the wound. Their head lolled back, stars still reflecting off their unseeing gaze. Villian cradled their limp form.
Now they finally knew who Hero worked for, and they swore to themselves:
They would kill every last person who sent kids to fight their own battles.
yes. yes.
reblog if you’ve read fanfictions that are more professional, better written than some actual novels. I’m trying to see something
We need more of whumpees who are stressed, skittish and sleep-deprived and caretakers who know just the Secret Weapon to help them relax. They’ll be subtle about it, though, i.e. making idle conversation while casually carding a hand through Whumpee’s hair until A) Whumpee’s practically purring under their touch or B) They’re still trying to protest in little grumpy mumbles as they doze off.
Bonus points if Whumpee later asks them how they knew something like that would put them to sleep and Caretaker plays dumb. “Oh, does it? I never noticed!”

whump but whumpee and caretaker(?) are bitter exes,, bonus points if whumper thinks they still care for eachother
Implied past kidnapping, death threat, implied murder
"I get to pick..?" First Whumpee looked around at the array of tools and weapons on the wall and table.
"For Second Whumpee," Whumper reiterated. "I know how much you hate them. You may be as harsh as you like. Kill em, for all I care. Anything you pick, I'll use on them."
First Whumpee considered this, approaching the table slowly. They trailed their fingers gently against the stained baseball bat, pulling away. They looked through the knives, the guns, the axes- even a chainsaw hung on the wall.
Second Whumpee, who was bound and gagged in the corner, let out another muffled cry.
First Whumpee had despised Second Whumpee all their life, even before they both had been taken. They were too weak, too sensitive and Whumper didn't even try to hide their preference for them. Honestly, they wouldn't mind if Second Whumpee died. It'd be better than being bound to them with three inches of chains every night.
"Pick wisely, this'll be your only chance," Whumper warned.
"I think," First Whumpee started, speaking slowly, "I don't want them dead right now..."
I don't wanna be forced to clean that mess, they thought.
They grabbed an axe from the wall, testing its weight in their hands. They handed it to Whumper, avoiding eye contact. "Take a limb off, maybe?"
"An axe, huh? Bold." Whumper nodded approvingly, holding it in one hand.
Second Whumpee screeched behind the gag.
First Whumpee ignored them, reaching onto the table to get a pair of pliers. "These, too."
"Alright." Whumper grinned.
•••
Both Whumpees had been brought back to the main basement, and Second Whumpee had been released of their restraints.
"Alrighty." Whumper turned to First Whumpee, and in one swift movement grabbed them by the collar and slammed them to the wall, hooking on the chains.
"What?" First Whumpee protested, pulling against the chains. "What are you doing?"
Whumper ignored them, kneeling down to Second Whumpee. Their hand caressed the other's cheek with care. "You're okay. Here you go."
To first Whumpee's horror, Whumper handed Second Whumpee the axe and pliers.
"Go crazy, darling."
I wish I could say I haven't but that would be a lie.

👏👏
If you love injured Whumpees who think they’re an obstacle to their team and you know it, clap your hands. 👏👏
Gaslighting as a whump tactic.
Whumpee who's been held captive for days. Whumper who says, "It's only been an hour, you're overexaggerating."
Whumpee who swears something is wrong, but can't figure out exactly what. Bits and pieces of themself are missing. Their memories are fragmented. It wasn't always like this. Whumper who says, "Everything's fine. Aren't you just being paranoid?"
Whumpee who feels like they're forgetting something, or someone. That something important is gone. Whumper, who in turn, says, "You're hallucinating."
Gaslighting as a whump tactic.
HOW TO WRITE A CHARACTER WHO IS IN PAIN
first thing you might want to consider: is the pain mental or physical?
if it’s physical, what type of pain is it causing? — sharp pain, white-hot pain, acute pain, dull ache, throbbing pain, chronic pain, neuropathic pain (typically caused by nerve damage), etc
if it’s mental, what is the reason your character is in pain? — grief, heartbreak, betrayal, anger, hopelessness, fear and anxiety, etc
because your character will react differently to different types of pain
PHYSICAL PAIN
sharp and white-hot pain may cause a character to grit their teeth, scream, moan, twist their body. their skin may appear pale, eyes red-rimmed and sunken with layers of sweat covering their forehead. they may have tears in their eyes (and the tears may feel hot), but they don’t necessarily have to always be crying.
acute pain may be similar to sharp and white-hot pain; acute pain is sudden and urgent and often comes without a warning, so your character may experience a hitched breathing where they suddenly stop what they’re doing and clench their hand at the spot where it hurts with widened eyes and open mouth (like they’re gasping for air).
dull ache and throbbing pain can result in your character wanting to lay down and close their eyes. if it’s a headache, they may ask for the lights to be turned off and they may be less responsive, in the sense that they’d rather not engage in any activity or conversation and they’d rather be left alone. they may make a soft whimper from their throat from time to time, depends on their personality (if they don’t mind others seeing their discomfort, they may whimper. but if your character doesn’t like anyone seeing them in a not-so-strong state, chances are they won’t make any sound, they might even pretend like they’re fine by continuing with their normal routine, and they may or may not end up throwing up or fainting).
if your character experience chronic pain, their pain will not go away (unlike any other illnesses or injuries where the pain stops after the person is healed) so they can feel all these types of sharp pain shooting through their body. there can also be soreness and stiffness around some specific spots, and it will affect their life. so your character will be lucky if they have caretakers in their life. but are they stubborn? do they accept help from others or do they like to pretend like they’re fine in front of everybody until their body can’t take it anymore and so they can no longer pretend?
neuropathic pain or nerve pain will have your character feeling these senses of burning, shooting and stabbing sensation, and the pain can come very suddenly and without any warning — think of it as an electric shock that causes through your character’s body all of a sudden. your character may yelp or gasp in shock, how they react may vary depends on the severity of the pain and how long it lasts.
EMOTIONAL PAIN
grief can make your character shut themself off from their friends and the world in general. or they can also lash out at anyone who tries to comfort them. (five states of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and eventual acceptance.)
heartbreak — your character might want to lock themself in a room, anywhere where they are unseen. or they may want to pretend that everything’s fine, that they’re not hurt. until they break down.
betrayal can leave a character with confusion, the feelings of ‘what went wrong?’, so it’s understandable if your character blames themself at first, that maybe it’s their fault because they’ve somehow done something wrong somewhere that caused the other character to betray them. what comes after confusion may be anger. your character can be angry at the person who betrayed them and at themself, after they think they’ve done something wrong that resulted in them being betrayed, they may also be angry at themself next for ‘falling’ for the lies and for ‘being fooled’. so yes, betrayal can leave your character with the hatred that’s directed towards the character who betrayed them and themself. whether or not your character can ‘move on and forgive’ is up to you.
there are several ways a character can react to anger; they can simply lash out, break things, scream and yell, or they can also go complete silent. no shouting, no thrashing the place. they can sit alone in silence and they may cry. anger does make people cry. it mostly won’t be anything like ‘ugly sobbing’ but your character’s eyes can be bloodshot, red-rimmed and there will be tears, only that there won’t be any sobbing in most cases.
hopelessness can be a very valid reason for it, if you want your character to do something reckless or stupid. most people will do anything if they’re desperate enough. so if you want your character to run into a burning building, jump in front of a bullet, or confess their love to their archenemy in front of all their friends, hopelessness is always a valid reason. there’s no ‘out of character’ if they are hopeless and are desperate enough.
fear and anxiety. your character may be trembling, their hands may be shaky. they may lose their appetite. they may be sweaty and/or bouncing their feet. they may have a panic attack if it’s severe enough.
and I think that’s it for now! feel free to add anything I may have forgotten to mention here!
I have read fanfics I would pay to have bound into books and keep them on my bedside table.

love the classic damsel in distress trope, but the damsel in question is a pathetic fictional man bleeding out in the dark somewhere on the floor before his ridiculously gorgeous knight comes for his rescue just when he’s about to pass out, and the ridiculously gorgeous knight in question is actually a deranged villain who is his archenemy. but they both have these frustratingly unresolved sexual tension going on where they both hate each other but are also super possessive and protective of each other in the sense that no one else can hurt this little guy but me!!!! and so the knight carries his pathetic damsel in his arms bridal style back to his goth castle where they have hot, kinky gay sex ever after (after he nurses his pathetic enemy’s ass back to health, of course, can’t risk bruising our fragile damsel when he’s already half dead).
I love you misunderstood villain who’s been through the worst kind of hell and wasn’t able to come out of it unscarred.
I love you villain who is well understood and just likes doing bad things for pure pleasure.
I love you villain who is loved by the fandom.
I love you villain who is hated by the fandom.
I love you villain who has to cry alone and lick their wounds in the dark because they’re too scared to let anybody see them vulnerable.
I love you villain who’s not scared to shout all their pain and trauma at the top of their lungs for the world to hear.
I love you villain who’s on their knees begging to be accepted and loved for once.
I love you villain who never bows down to anyone.
I love you villain who hides their scars like their deep, dark secrets.
I love you villain who shows their scars like trophies from the battles they won.
I love you villain who wants to create a better world, even if their way of trying to achieve the goal is different than hero’s.
I love you villain who wants to burn the world down.
I don’t do that Anti Shit in my house

You are right about that
