Walgreens allows employees to pick and choose who gets birth control

Jason Weisberger 11:32 am Wed Jul 13, 2022

When asked about the incident, a Walgreens spokesperson said, "Our company policy allows team members to step away from completing a transaction to which they have a moral objection and refer the transaction to a fellow team member or manager who will complete the customer's request."

The policy is troubling considering that Walgreens, the second-largest pharmacy chain in the U.S., may serve as the only source for contraceptives in some communities.

So some pimply faced little trollish incel can decide if he wants to sell you birth control or not.

Fuck Walgreens.

Plan B is shelf stable for up to 4 years. Afterpill is shelf stable for about 18 months.

Plan B is currently available over the counter, and you can find coupons for it online for various retailers; some of those coupons require a prescription so check the coupon details carefully. Both of these medications can be ordered online.

Plan B and Afterpill in the 1.5mg tablets are less effective for people over 176 pounds, however it is safe to double the dose, so if you are heavier order two doses. Ella is also effective for heavier people, but requires a prescription.

Emergency contraception is effective for a short period after sex. You need to take Plan B or Afterpill within 72 hours of unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy.

IUDs and birth control implants are effective long-term birth control that does not require your partner to participate in using the birth control or even be aware of it. IUDs are 99% effective and are effective for 3-12 years depending on type. Planned Parenthood can place an IUD for you, and so can many gynecologist's offices, and IUDs are covered under most health insurance plans. Talk to your doctor or gynecologist about how to get an IUD. Birth control implants are 99% effective and are effective for up to 5 years. Like IUDs, you can talk to your doctor or gynecologist, or visit Planned Parenthood, to get an IUD.

The birth control methods listed here are not effective for preventing STIs, they are for pregnancy prevention only.

If you can become pregnant but do not want to be pregnant, now is a good time to consider a long-term birth control option like an IUD or a birth control implant, and to purchase emergency contraception like Plan B or Afterpill to have it onhand in an emergency.

I absolutely want to make this clear:

You can choose to use a condom at any time. Any. Time. It doesn't matter if you've been raw-dog fucking for years. You have the right to say; "hey, we can have sex but only if we use a condom."

And if your partner refuses, you do not have to have sex. If the condom is a stipulation and condition of you two having sex and your partner refuses to agree to that term, they're refusing to have sex. Period.

There is no valid excuse to not use one if your partner has requested it.

(Also, you can use condoms for reasons other than birth control. They're convenient for less mess, they protect from sexually transmitted infections and diseases, and they provide peace of mind.)

Quotes from my grandma

(To a couple with five kids living in their parents’ basement): “Every child is a miracle but the ability to make one isn’t.”

I’ve never heard a more passive aggressive way of saying ‘use a condom.’

Maybe These People Will Change Their Minds If They Learn That Birth Control Pills Are Also Used For Stuff

Maybe these people will change their minds if they learn that birth control pills are also used for stuff other than...well...birth control; many AFABs (myself included) take them for hormone regulation and managing medical conditions.

Or maybe they won't. Maybe they'll just plug their ears and keep whining about "the depravity."

Easy access to contraception is a right. Easy access to healthcare is a right. Oral contraceptives can serve as both of these things, and they should be protected as such.

When I went to ask my doctor about birth control (I was about 10 at the time, yeah I know I was young) my doctor was ANTI BIRTH CONTROL???? She said it would stop my period but then in the next sentence said my period would be even heavier. (What?) She said it was irreversible (the methods she was explaining were irreversible) She said no man would ever want a girl on birth control (I don't care.) She even said our insurance wouldn't cover ANY of them (they did cover ALL of them) So in conclusion what in the world

She was a doctor specifically for birth control.

Booktok romance books scare me somewhat. Why is it sexy to have a guy take your birth control out as a form of foreplay?????

That and I made the mistake of reading Coleen Hoover books. They have the exact same formula of angst sex angst sex and then woah happy ending no one saw coming even though they have a toxic relationship. The only redeeming one that I read was “It ends with us” and even that one made me uncomfortable and not the way she wanted us to be if I had to guess

"You chose to have a kid"

A key point in framing is that almost every anti-choice idiot says, is that they always frame it as "the choice to have a kid". Specifically, in this case:

"You chose to have sex, so you have to deal with the kid"

Let's just...side-step the puritanical root of punishing people for having sex, and the actual, sincere belief that humans Not Having Sex is something we can actually achieve, which is stupid.

People explicitly make choices to not have kids when they have sex, too.

There are whole swaths of things that men and women do, hopefully overlapping, to not have kids.

"You Chose To Have A Kid"

None of them are 100% effective. Even Female and Male sterilization aren't 100% effective, other than a full blown hysterectomy.

Literally, a man and a woman can both go to a doctor, have actual surgeries performed so they don't have kids, have sex with one another, and still wind up pregnant. Especially if it's in the first few years after their surgeries are performed. Surgeries which have weeks to months of recovery time, planning, and costing thousands of dollars each.

I choose to go to work every day; punishing me for getting hit by a cab as a "potential outcome" of going to work is fucking ludicrous. People smoking are more likely to get a cancer, but we still treat them in hospitals. Getting AIDS from donating blood is a thing that can happen, but you're damn well going to sue the hospital or agency that gave you AIDS. I can play the lottery every day and eventually win a million dollars, but it's still "the stupid tax" and actually thinking it will happen is the literal Gold Standard for "not gonna happen".

Nowhere else in society do we accept bullshit like that except when we're talking about controlling women and their sex lives for doing things you don't want them to. And it's always, always from the same people who want the woman to deliver the baby (which itself has a high risk of just killing the mom outright, especially in the US) who don't want to feed the baby when it's delivered, who don't want to give it a home or clothes or healthcare.

Again, that's before we even get to:

"You Chose To Have A Kid"

Horrifying that the clitoris isn't part of any medical fields, but not surprising. These women have completely lost their ability to orgasm during routine successful surgery. Trans surgeons are going in completely blind and discovering new details of the clitoris simply because no one else has bothered to examine it.
