Day 2 : Again.

Luffy relives the worst day of his life, over and over again.

I wasn't inspired by today's prompts so I chose one of the alternatives: Time Loop. Since I didn't have time to write everything, I'll post loop by loop as I go along, instead of all at once. This story is quite hard to read (and write), so pay attention to the warnings and take care of yourself above all <3 Trigger Warnings: - Graphic Description of Violence - Blood and Injuries - Burns - Major Character Death Fandom : One Piece (Anime & Manga) Character(s) : Monkey D. Luffy Relationship(s) : Monkey D. Luffy & Portgas D. Ace Words Count : 1,548 No. 2: ALTERNATIVE  Time Loop

Day 2 : Again.

First Loop

Luffy struggled to retrieve Ace's Vivre Card that was slipping from his fingers. It was in front of him, just inches away, and yet unreachable. He didn't really know why, but he had to retrieve that Vivre Card. It was important, it was a part of Ace. He couldn't lose it. Nothing else mattered. The outside world faded into the background around him — the screams of agony, the smell of blood and smoke, the corpses he was stepping on to escape — leaving only the small burning piece of paper in his field of vision.

(Ace had been burned by Akainu. His big brother, the one who always walked two steps ahead of him, unreachable and strong , the living embodiment of fire, had been burned . Sabo had died in the flames of an explosion. Luffy had forgotten it, but big brothers could burn too.)

Luffy's hand finally closed around Ace's Vivre Card and the panic that clouded his mind subdued. He had succeeded, Ace wouldn't leave him.

He had promised.

“You won't leave here alive!”

Luffy looked up and met Ace's desperate gaze. Why was Ace looking at him like that? He should be happy, Luffy had his Vivre Card back.

“Luffy!”

The flaming fist of Absolute Justice charged at him, invading his field of vision until all he could see was flames — stories whispered by a campfire, the burn of the Grey Terminal fire on his skin, Ace's arm around his shoulders in the middle of winter — and bloody red.

Oh.

Luffy wanted to move, should have moved, but he couldn't. The world was so fast when he was so slow, exhaustion slowing all his movements to the very core of his bones.

(If his crew was there, he could have rested for five minutes before going back into battle, but Luffy was alone .)

Suddenly, without Luffy understanding what was happening — he was so tired — Ace was in front of him, smiling sadly. Luffy's eyes widened in horror as he noticed the fist through Ace's body. The smell of burning flesh hit him in the face and Ace vomited blood, a retch shaking his entire body.

Akainu stepped back, removing his fist from Ace's body carelessly, Ace's guts falling to the ground, bloody and steaming. There was a hole in Ace's torso, where his lungs should have been. The skin around the wound was burned raw, sizzling with blisters and peeling away to the bone. And amidst the mess of ruined and damaged flesh, hidden behind his broken ribs, his brother's still beating heart.

Thud, thud, thud.

Luffy focused on Ace's fading heartbeat, clinging to his brother's last breath of life. Ace wasn't dead yet! Luffy could still save him. Luffy remembered yelling at Akainu who was raising his fist once more to finish Ace off, but he didn't remember Jinbei and Ace's friends intervening.

Everything vanished when Ace fell to his knees in Luffy's arms. Luffy caught him, his hand red, red, red when he looked at it after touching Ace's back. Luffy placed his hand on the wound, trying to stop the endless bleeding. Ace slid into Luffy's arms, his head falling onto his shoulder, and Luffy tightened his grip around Ace, refusing to let him go.

"I'm sorry, Luffy," Ace struggled to say, choking. "I'm so sorry, I stopped you from saving me properly. Forgive me.”

Ace was breathing heavily, just talking, draining him of his meager strength. Blood was dripping down Luffy's shoulder in large drops.

"What are you talking about? Stop talking nonsense!"

Ace wasn't dying, Luffy could still feel his heart beating between his fingers. Ace wasn't dying. He couldn't die. He had promised. He couldn't die.

"Someone!" Luffy begged, screaming until his vocal cords broke, feeling the heat leave Ace's body. “Heal his wounds! Save Ace!”

Luffy didn't like the cold. Cold meant being alone in the night, cold meant an empty place in the treehouse. Cold meant Death.

"Luffy stop," Ace said weakly. "My time has come. He burned me from the inside out, I won't make it this time.”

And Ace was never weak. He was bold and brash and mean at times, a raging fire. Never weak, always strong. Ace was the reason Luffy survived Sabo's death. Because Ace was strong where Luffy wasn't, learning to be kind and caring for Luffy.

Ace was strong .

Luffy wasn't.

“No! You promised”! Luffy refused, understanding what his big brother meant. “You told me Ace, right? You said you wouldn't die!”

Because Ace was strong but he was also stupid. He forgot obvious things sometimes and Luffy had to remind him. Like the fact that Luffy loved him. But if Luffy reminded him of his promise, then maybe Ace wouldn't die.

“You promised,” Luffy stopped himself from sobbing. Ace didn't like whiners.

“You know, if it wasn't for Sabo, if I didn't have a little brother like you to watch over. I wouldn't have wanted to live.” Luffy's heart clenched painfully in his chest. “No one wanted me after all. So it's completely normal.”

Ace clung to Luffy like a lifeline, as if Luffy was the only thing keeping him alive. Luffy was terrified that he wouldn’t be enough to keep Ace alive for a little longer.

“Oh right, if you ever run into Dadan again, could you say goodbye for me?” Ace laughed softly, his laughter cut off by a coughing fit. “It’s strange, now that I’m about to die, I feel like I miss her.”

Ace’s breath was labored, his voice hoarse. And Luffy didn’t dare look — because if he did, he’d have to face his big brother’s dying face — but he was pretty sure Ace was crying, his shoulders shaking with silent sobs.

“I only have one regret, and that’s not seeing your dream come true. But I know you, you’ll get there, that’s for sure.” Ace and Sabo had been among the first to hear his dream, among the first to believe in him. “You're my brother after all.”

Luffy had two brothers. One had been dead for over ten years, the other was dying in his arms. Who was going to believe in his dreams now?

And yet Luffy couldn't do anything. He was frozen, afraid that the slightest movement would make things worse. The only thing he could do was hold his brother in his arms as he died, hoping that Ace would feel all the love Luffy had for him.

Ace was loved. He had to know that, right ?

"As we promised each other back then, I have no regrets about the life I led."

This time, Luffy couldn't help but protest. This wasn't how it was going to end. It couldn't be.

(Ace's heartbeat was getting slower and slower, more and more rare.)

"No, you're lying!"

"No, it's true!" Ace insisted, his fingers digging painfully into Luffy's shoulder with a surprising strength for a dead man. “It seems that what I always wanted in the end wasn't fame or glory. But just the answer to my question. Why did I come into this world? "

Ace had always been haunted by his past, by the past of those who had come before him, that of his parents. But Luffy didn't live in the past, he didn't care who Ace's father was. What mattered was the present, what mattered was that Ace was Luffy 's brother.

Ace was Ace and that was all that mattered. Ace had always been enough.

"Luffy, I want you to listen to what I have to say and tell the others afterwards," Luffy knew at that moment that his brother's words would be his last. He wasn't ready for that. “Even though I've been a good-for-nothing my whole life, even though I carry the blood of a demon.”

The fighting raged around them and yet it had never been interrupted. Ace's family fought to give them one last moment, one last hug.

"Thank you for loving me!"

Crying, Ace formed a smile on his lips for the last time. Ace collapsed in Luffy's arms, his hand falling from Luffy's neck where Ace had clung to during his final moments, leaving a trail of blood along Luffy's cheek.

Ace fell to the ground, alive one moment, dead the next, and Luffy screamed out all his pain and sorrow, inaudible amidst the horrors of war. Ace was dead.

Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead.

Ace was dead.

Ace.

Was.

Dead.

Ace was dead.

Years of memories flashed through Luffy's mind in a split second - all ending with the same tragic phrase "thank you for loving me", all ending with Ace's death - shattering his psyche to the last piece.

They were always meant to end up here - Ace, dead and Luffy, helpless - there was nothing Luffy could have done to change things.

“ACE!!!”

In the end, when the darkness reached out to him, Luffy welcomed it willingly. Luffy fell into nothingness, hoping to never come out. Not if it meant living in a world alone.

#cw. Warning: Scary pictures. Hello beautiful people, I hope y'all have had a great day. These are your queer siblings in Kenya once again looking for your support. The voiceless lgbtiqa refugees in Kenya going through torture and lives lost. We condemn these acts, laws and bills against lgbtiqa

Our houses were being set on a blaze and now looking for where to sleep. Are voices are not heard because Kenya does not allow gay marriage but instead the communities in Kenya keep fighting us and now they burnt down our homesteads. Our people were caught in the fire and are nursing wounds as y'all can see in the pictures below. For those that may want to donate, please donate below as we are looking forward to getting money so that we can enclose our community with a fence and limit such attacks. We are sure with one love plus solidarity we shall have peace for all queers everywhere.

Let's collect $3000 and we put up a terrific ironsheet fence. Very sure it will helpus a lot.

We also struggle to get food as we are not allowed to work in any company or organisation due to our gender but instead the support we get from y'all keeps us satisfied with food and medicine. Please continue with that heart.

Behold! More mer batch! Part 1 out of 3

Crossshair’s first day in the Pabu Sea Sanctuary

Behold! More Mer Batch! Part 1 Out Of 3

Warning for blood and heavy skin burns

Behold! More Mer Batch! Part 1 Out Of 3

This time with a snippet provided by @pinetree-tbb who did an unbelievably fantastic job at writing this three parter!

Behold! More Mer Batch! Part 1 Out Of 3

Crosshair woke up slowly, taking a few deep breaths and letting the cool water flow through his gills. He felt weird, like something was missing. Did his brothers let him oversleep? He made a small move to straighten out his tail, a sudden jolt of pain waking him up instantly.

With a gasp he raised up, eyes open and watching the room around him. He wasn’t on the ship deck anymore, but it didn’t look like underneath it either.

No, the room was stationary and clean. The lights were all turned off, but a smell of antiseptic and medicine lingered in the air. Instead of wet wood he was curled up in a sort of small pool with a weird aftertaste to it, fresh instead of salty. The last thing he remembered clearly was Hunter reaching for him while the imperial humans tossed him overboard into the ocean, the face of the man who tortured him and took his brothers. He had to find them!

He pushed himself up on his skeletally thin arms that almost gave up under his weight to look around. The pond he was placed in was below the floor level, covered under a dome made of a construction similar to lobster trap, but much bigger. Crosshair narrowed his eyes and went underwater again, then he looked at himself. The net was gone and was replaced with bandages in all the places the nylon broke through his skin and scales. All the wounds got dressed, but because of the wet environment the blood was still flowing, although slowly. Mer blood clots much quicker than human.

It would have to do. With one wave of his tail he was at the wall of the pool and trying to haul himself up to reach the metal bars that covered his prison. It took him a few tries, but he was able to hang on one of his elbows and rest before trying to reach the locking mechanism. Unfortunately that’s when the doors to the room opened and the outside illuminated the room. Crosshair hissed, shielded his eyes from the sudden light, dropped back into the pond and retreated into the opposite side of the pond.

"Well look who’s up, Kix! He's awake!" A female voice rang out as she entered the room and looked through the metal bars, dim light burned now and Crosshair could see the shape of a human, distorted by the water. He flicked his tail and bared his teeth as a warning.

"I think he's in a bad mood." She said to the man coming up to her, much taller and wearing a white coat. "Let's leave him alone for a bit longer to get used to the medical pond, then we can see if we can communicate in some way." He noted and with that the humans walked out, leaving the room in the darkness once more.

If they think they can just keep him here, they have another thing coming! Crosshair waited for a while after they left, then went to the edge of the pond again. He pushed himself out of the water. With the same technique as the previous attempt he hung off of his good elbow and pushed the lock of the metal dome open. It took some effort but he was able to drag his whole tail up and through the newly opened hatch.

With a wet flop he landed on the cold ground and hissed in pain, then propped himself up on his once again bleeding arms and crawl-slithered to the door. He tried the handle but it refused to open. Frustrated, he scratched at the door frame, leaving behind a few marks. After a few deep breaths he looked around but there was nothing else in the room. He growled, flicking the tip of his tail in annoyance. He had to get out of there. But how?

The only ones that knew how to open the doors were- the humans! The same ones that had a weird obsession with fixing his wounds. He now had a plan.

Kix decided to come back in an hour, long enough for their new friend to get more comfortable with the pond and the room. He asked Phee to bring the soundboard, courtesy of the twin in providing sound samples of common phrases in the mer language for arrivals that did not know English. They hoped the eel friend did not come from afar, or the dialect could prove different enough for the tablet to become useless. He did not know of any pod, neither having a territory nor traveling through nearby, with similar features as the new patient.

However, all of his positive approach popped like a balloon when he turned on the lights of the emergency pool room, his horrified gasp making Riyo and Phee rush in too. The eel mer was floating unmoving on the surface of the water, face down.

“Oh no, is he?-” The pink haired woman didn’t get to finish her question before the doctor rushed towards the pool, the latch undone in one good yank and the man rushing to the mer. If it happened recently they still had the chance to help him.

His state was dire but non life threatening, did the starvation make the blood loss so much severe-

His colleague ran a step behind him, ready to assist. Phee stayed out while the two adults raised the patient out of the water, Kix lowering his head to listen for heartbeat.

Fast. Very fast. Same as breath. The eel mer wasn’t unconscious. He was waiting.

Before Kix could run the mer opened his eyes, and with a yelp the doctor was pushed underwater by his long, white tail. Bloodied water rushed into his nose and mouth.

As he choked, Riyo was faced with a snarling mer, blocking his leap towards her neck with her arm. With a strong shake he pushed her to the side and slithered towards the open latch of the pool.

"Don't- cough- let him out!" Kix called, Phee rushed the door, unfortunately not fast enough to outrun the mer, who pushed her to the ground and smashed his shoulder to fully open them. He let out a painful hiss but did not slow after pushing and crawl-slithered out of the room.

"Oisk!" Kix cursed and ran after him, Riyo close behind, grasping her bleeding arm. Phee jumped up to her feet and followed.

"Let's herd him to the Twins!" She called after them.

He was out! It worked! Now he just had to get out of the building! Crosshair crawl-slithered as quickly as he could, biting down the groans which wanted to come out of him with every move. He didn't know where to go but he kept moving and hissing when someone got into his way. Crosshair heard his blood rushing in his ears and heart beating against his ribcage.

There! That must be the door to go outside! It was a glass door with two wings, fragile, so he threw himself at it trying to make it shatter. He growled and looked around for something heavy but when he turned around he saw the man from before in front of him, holding his hands up, coming slowly closer.

"Easy boy easy, we want to help you."

'Help? Yeah, not falling for that you fishhead!' Crosshair thought. He drew his shoulders up in a threatening manner and let out a deep slow hiss, flicking his tail in. He pushed against the glass behind him, trying to get it to open.

"Easy. Stay calm." The man whispered and came closer.

"I don't think he can understand you Kix." The short, pink haired woman beside him noted.

"Well, I hope he understands my tone and body language."

'Well you obviously don't!' Cross thought and slammed his tail against the glass, letting out another growl. The Kix guy took another step closer and Crosshair lashed out at him with his claws, which made him step back again.

"We have to get him secured before he hurts himself more." The dark skinned woman said, putting a hand on the man's shoulder. When his eyes moved to look at the gesture Crosshair spotted a chair to his left, so he slowly edged closer to it, without looking at it to give away his intention. He just stared down the man, the biggest danger in his current situation. When the chair was within reach he grabbed one of its legs and swung it behind him at the door, the glass shattering into a thousand tiny shards and rattling to the ground. Crosshair turned and rushed through the broken door, ignoring the pain as the pieces pierced his body.

"After him!" He heard the man call behind him but he kept crawling. The rocky concrete under him scrabbed up his hands and tail, and he felt the bandages around his body come loose. A quick look confirmed that his motions on the ground roughed up the bandages and made them tear apart. He had to get into the water. It was noon and the sun was burning from the peak of its travel across the sky, Crosshair running on the fumes of adrenaline, but he couldn’t give up now, he had to go back and find his brothers!

He sniffed the air, his nose filled with the metallic scent of his own blood, but underneath it he was able to smell the salty water of the ocean, in which direction he slithered towards.

Suddenly, a shape blocked his path, the man from the inside, this time a blanket in his hands. Crosshair made a sharp turn, avoiding the piece of cloth as it was thrown towards him, but not slowing down even for a moment, even as the burning concrete ripped a few of his scales. He made another dodge, this time to the left as the pink haired woman made her attempt at blinding him with her blanket.

He ignored the shout made by the man, sounding weirdly delighted, to finally see the shimmer of his destination, water! With a few more pushes forwards he reached the sand and then the blessed ocean. He was out!

FInally able to open his gills he took a deep inhale, letting the cold water flow through them as he swam further away from the humans.

Cross felt a sense of triumph, managing to escape from that place and darted through the currents, but then was abruptly stopped when he slammed into an invisible, no, glass, wall in front of him.

What?! No! No nO NO!!! He swam up to the surface, looking at the wall in disbelief. He turned around and saw the people from before at the beach and realized what they had done. Now it made sense what they wanted with the blankets! They shepherd him into this pond!

Crosshair growled deeply and looked back at the wall, he could easily jump over this. So he dived deeper and rushed upwards gaining speed. In his horror as he sprung out of the water he felt something grip his tail, instantly losing momentum for the jump. Crosshair slammed into the upper edge of the wall, crying out in pain. He tried to hold onto it, but slipped and fell back into the water. He looked around but could not find the reason for his failure of escape, so he quickly tried a second time, but he used up all of his strength he had in the first jump. He slammed into the wall, slipping back down, leaving claw marks on the clear surface. He tried another jump but the adrenaline that kept him going the past few minutes began to wear off, leaving him behind tired and exhausted.

As he slumped back into the water he just went limp and let himself sink. He watched as the surface became more distant and fogged with the slowly seeping blood from the wounds he reopened and obtained in the last few minutes. He looked at his hands, scratched up from the concrete ground and missing two claws which he must have ripped out while climbing. He watched his blood come out of his wounds, mixing with the water in tiny swirls. He was hurt, and tired, he didn't know what to do... He fought to keep his eyes open, but unconsciousness called to claim him...

No. Not here, not out in the open.

Slowly he flipped his tail to make himself turn around and look, spotting a few rocks at the bottom of the pond, in between the sand, corals and seaweed. He inspected it to see if there was enough space, then started to dig. Every move hurt, but he refused to stay out in the open like that. He made himself a hollow in the sand under the rocks and got in, and with his tail he pushed the overstanding sand back to the entrance to make it smaller. With his hand he shoved more ground up to close the entrance and his little shelter turned dark. Crosshair wrapped his long tail around himself and settled down. The hole wasn't big, but that made him feel safer... for now... The sand he laid on was soft, much softer than the sand in the open waters, so he burrowed a bit in with a few wiggles. Now, laying there in his burrow, Crosshair began feeling everything that hit him today. The pain of his wounds has doubled, each and every scab and missing scale sending jolts of stabbing pain. The blood finally stopped flowing when he stayed still, but now the sand got into the cuts caused by the net, and stung horrifically. He was scared. Alone, for the first time since his original pod abandoned him. He wanted Ninety Nine. And Hunter, Tech and Wrecker. He wanted to go back home to the bay. He wanted… to… sleep…

There had been no sign of a bite mark or even any blood on her finger where she felt the sting. None of them had any clue about what would happen after she fell asleep that night.

Summary:

Peter wakes up in a strange world. Everything around him is sandy, and he can hear bombs in the distance. He wonders how he got there. He couldn’t remember how he got there. Where was he? He wanders around until he can see a helicarrier in the distance. He noted that he had a large cut on his side as well, and that he was in odd Egyptian-like clothes. The last thing he remembered was walking to the subway and being on his way to Ned’s house. What the heck happened, and why is there a talking bird?

Johnny sighed as he rubbed his forehead after leaving one of the examination rooms. He, Roy, and Kelly Brackett had just resuscitated a cardiac patient again. The guy was going to be sent to the cardiac intensive care unit soon.

He sighed as he went up to the nurse's station and Roy handed him a cup of coffee while Dixie gathered some supplies for them. Roy leaned against the desk as Dixie sat the box of supplies on the desktop and smiled lightly. She knew that it had been a close call for the victim and had stressed the two paramedics out.

Roy quickly called them in as available as Johnny sipped his coffee. There hadn't been much time for chatting as the HT sounded and they were called out on another run. Dixie had watched as the two paramedics sat their cups down, grabbed their supplies, and left.

~~~~~~
Squad 51 quickly arrived at the scene that they had been called to. A child was stuck on a rooftop, and the mother was distressed. Roy immediately tried to calm the mother while Johnny began setting things up for getting the kid off of the roof.
Johnny quickly said "Roy, we may have to call the engine in for this one. It looks like I can climb up there, but it would be safer if we could get the kid down using a ladder. I'm going to go ahead and climb up there and secure a safety belt though."
Roy nodded and said "Be careful. It's four stories up. Make sure that your line is secure as well. I'll hold it and apply slack as needed."
Roy then got on the HT and called for backup.
Roy knew that Captain Stanley likely wouldn't be happy that Johnny had already decided to climb on his own before backup showed, but he was dedicated, and no one could stop Johnny when he was dedicated to rescuing someone.
Roy watched cautiously as Johnny climbed to the roof with little difficulty. The roof was peaked, and it looked like the child was shaking in fear as she gripped the ridge with both hands. Roy could see that the child had likely gotten on the roof through one of the attic windows.
He couldn't see Johnny by the time he was on the roof, but he knew that Johnny was balancing carefully on the ridge. The engine soon arrived, but Roy held his focus on the line secured to his partner and the additional rescue belt that may not be needed.
~~~~~~

Captain Stanley was not too pleased as he looked towards the roof of the building that they'd been called to. It was a four story bed and breakfast owned and operated by a local couple. Captain Stanley quickly relayed orders to his men.

Marco and Chet handled getting the ladder while Mike stayed with the engine and Captain Stanley walked over to Roy.

Captain Stanley spoke "Stoker, come help DeSoto keep Gage and the child's lifeline secure!"

Mike soon came over and helped as Captain Stanley backed up to monitor the situation. He noticed that Johnny had made it all the way to the child. He noticed that a small window with a ledge was open in what had to be an attic space.

Captain Stanley cautiously called up to Johnny "Try to get the child to the ledge below the open attic window!"

Johnny looked down after carefully bending his knees and getting closer to the crying girl.

He called out to Captain Stanley "Cap, I can't see the ledge from this angle. It'd be safer if I try to lower her down to the ladder."

Captain Stanley grumbled in agitation, but knew that Johnny was right.

He called out "Alright, Marco will be waiting at the top of the ladder to receive the child when you can lower them!"

~~~~~~
Johnny didn't respond to Captain Stanley's last statement as he carefully bent even lower to get to the girl.
He smiled and spoke kindly to her "Hi, kiddo. I see that you're pretty scared up here. My name's John Gae, and I'm a firefighter and paramedic. What's your name?"
The girl barely looked up at him as she sniffled and said "My nam-name's Molly. I'm s-scared!"
Molly then sobbed as she lowered her head back down to rest on the ridge.
Johnny spoke again "It's okay, Molly. I'm here to help. Would you try to sit up for me? I want to put a belt around your waist so that you don't fall and get hurt."
Molly looked up at Johnny again and was shaking as she tried to sit back up. She froze after she looked down the side of the roof again.
Johnny noticed and spoke again "Hey, just look at me, Molly. You'll be alright. I won't let you fall."
Molly's lower lip trembled as she looked at Johnny and carefully sat up on the ridge. She felt so unsteady as her feet knocked into a few of the rickety shingles. She was trembling as Johnny came a little bit closer to her.
Johnny spoke "I'm just going to secure this belt around you, okay?"
Molly sniffled and said "Okay."
Johnny quickly secured the belt and called out to the others that he had secured the girl. He heard Captain Stanley call out to him the approximate location of the ladder that he'd have to lower the girl to. Johnny looked to Molly and said "Molly, I'm going to need you to back up a few feet. Be really careful."
Molly sniffled as she nodded and bravely did as requested.
Johnny then explained "Now, Molly, I'm going to need you to carefully slide down the roof. I know that it will be scary, but I'll have a hold of you the whole time using this rope connected to the belt. The ladder won't reach quite this far up, so we need to get you down like this."
Molly brought one hand up to wipe her eyes and nodded bravely. Johnny shouted that they were ready to lower Molly down. Johnny carefully stood again and held the lifeline as Molly gently slid down the side of the roof.
She lost her footing and fell and screamed, but Johnny kept her from falling very far. He had nearly lost his balance, but soon Captain Stanley gave him the go ahead to keep lowering Molly a little farther down.
Marco soon got a hold on Molly and yelled up that he had her. Johnny let go of the line as Marco held the bawling girl while going down the ladder with her. Only, a minute later, the lifeline that had still been attached to the girl looped around Johnny's right ankle and tripped him.
Johnny fell with a yelp and slid down some of the shingles, but stopped falling shortly after he went past the gutters. His shoulder was now aching, and he knew that he quite a few scrapes. He was really glad that Roy and Mike had a secure grip on his lifeline, otherwise he would be toast.
~~~~~~

Captain Stanley watched with fear as Johnny was tripped. He watched as Johnny slid down and off the main roof just past the gutters. He was glad that Johnny's lifeline was secure.

Captain Stanley called up "Gage, you okay?"

Johnny had groaned and replied "I'm fine, Cap. My shoulder's aching and I've got some scrapes, but I'll be okay."

Captain Stanley exhaled with relief and ordered "Kelley, Marco,move the ladder to Gage's position and help get him down. Stoker, keep a hold on Gage's line while he's going down the ladder. DeSoto, get your equipment."

He heard the responses of "Aye, Cap." from them all.

Captain Stanley only spared a short glance towards where the mother was holding the girl, Molly, tight while sniffling and reprimanding her for scaring her so bad. He could hear an ambulance on the way, though he doubted that the child would need it.

Johnny was soon going down the ladder with a little bit of pain while Roy helped clean up some of the scraped on Molly's arms from when she had gone over the shingles.

The ambulance had arrived, but the mother had signed the forms for no further medical care. Roy had already gone over to help Johnny. Johnny had quickly gotten the belt off after his feet were back on the ground.

Roy took note that Johnny was wincing whenever he moved his left shoulder, and he could see carious scrapes on his arms.

Roy then said "Come on, partner. I'll get these scrapes cleaned up and your shoulder secured, but you'll need to ride in the ambulance and get it checked out. You'll need an X-ray."

Johnny groaned, but agreed. Roy quickly got on the biophone and called it in while applying proper treatment until the ambulance could get to the hospital. Cap had seen them off and assured that Marco would drive the squad to the hospital.

~~~~~~
The ambulance soon arrived at the hospital and Dixie warmly greeted them and escorted them to one of the treatment rooms. Johnny was practically pouting as he sat on the bed while Roy stood beside him.
Dixie then said "Oh, we have a new Doctor here at Rampart. He was just hired a few days ago. He'll look you over right now. Kel and Joe are both busy with other patients at the moment, and Morton has the day off."
Johnny nodded with reluctance. He hated being a patient.
Dixie soon came in with the new doctor while Dixie got Johnny's chart and updated the vitals. Roy's eyebrow went up as he observed the new doctor.
Dixie's eyebrow raised as she fake coughed and the new doctor finally looked up towards her with an annoyed face.
Dixie spoke before he could "Dr. Newman, these are two of our paramedics. They're the best in the county. I suggest that you introduce yourself to them since you'll be working with them."
Dr. Newman huffed and said "Very well. Thank you, Nurse McCall. You may go now."
Dixie steeled her jaw as she nodded and left. She hadn't interacted with the new guy very much, but she already didn't like him.
He looked towards the two paramedics as he began checking over Johnny's shoulder and said "As you now know, my name is Dr. Newman. There's no need for you to know my first name. I've never been much for the paramedic program anyway, but if we must work together, then we should at least be professional."
Roy and Johnny shared a wary glance as Roy spoke "Well, Dr. Newman, welcome to Rampart."
Dr. Newman huffed and palpated around Johnny's sore shoulder.
He spoke "X-Ray should be in here shortly. I'll go notify them and update your chart, Mr. Gage. Mr. DeSoto, you should wait outside while the X-Ray is done."
Roy nodded at Johnny and reluctantly left the room shortly before Dr. Newman. Dr. Newman didn't even spare Johnny a glance as he left the room. Neither Johnny nor Roy liked the fact that the new doctor had told both of them that he didn't agree with the paramedic program.
~~~~~~

Dr. Newman rolled his eyes as he picked up the injured paramedic's chart. He noticed that Nurse McCall had at least filled it out properly. He had already called the X-Ray down and decided to peruse the chart while he waited for the technician to come back out.

He stopped and grimaced in disgust as he took notice of Mr. Gage's race. Gage was a half-breed! A redskin! A half-white and half Indian monstrosity! Had he known that, he wouldn't have touched the man with a ten foot pole!"

He quickly went up to the desk where Nurse McCall was and said "Here is Mr. Gage's chart. Someone else will have to take over his case. I have been called to another more severe case."

He then left without looking back, or else he would have seen both Roy and Dixie's surprised faces staring at him as he stepped into one of the elevators.

~~~~~~~
Dixie huffed as she watched Dr. Newman leave. She and Roy shared a look of disbelief! No one in their right mind would leave a patient! Not to mention she had heard nothing of Dr. Newman being called to another patient!
Dixie grimaced and paged Dr. Brackett. Roy then saw that the X-Ray technician had left Johnny's room and Dixie nodded for him to go ahead and rejoin his partner.
Johnny was sitting back up on the bed as Roy came back in. Johnny noticed that Roy looked flustered.
"Roy, what's wrong?" Johnny asked.
Roy responded "Well, Dr. Newman supposedly had to go to another patient, so Dr. Brackett's coming in here to look over the x-rays."
Johnny grimaced, but nodded and asked "Do you think that he handed my case off because I'm a paramedic?"
Roy gritted his teeth for a second and said "I don't really know, Johnny."
Soon after that, Dixie and Dr. Brackett entered. Dr. Brackett did not seem to happy. Dixie had filled him in on what had happened.
They observed the x-ray film and saw that there were no broken bones, just a sprain."
Dr. Brackett then said "John, I'm pulling you from duty for the rest of the shift, but you should be clear for your next shift. I'm prescribing a mild pain killer and you'll be released shortly."
Johnny nodded in relief as Roy sighed with relief. Johnny wasn't too happy that he'd miss the rest of the shift, but he was glad that he didn't have a broken bone.
"Thanks, doc." Johnny said as Dr. Brackett nodded and left the room. Roy also called the station to update Captain Stanley.
Roy and Johnny were soon on the way back to the station. Johnny was still able to drive home.
~~~~~~

Kel grimaced as he saw that Dixie still looked angry.

He spoke "Dix, what's wrong?"

Dixie looked at him with anger in her eyes and said "It's that Dr. Newman! He just dismissed Johnny's case! I already told you that! He's not very respectful either!"

Kel grimaced and said with anger "What did he say? Did he downplay your work?"

Dixie frowned and said "Not exactly, but I overheard him say that he doesn't like the paramedic program."

Kel hummed and said "Do you think that's why he didn't finish working on John's case?"

Dixie responded "I don't know, Kel. I just don't like him."

Kel nodded, but didn't respond. He hadn't had many interaction with Dr. Newman, but form what he was hearing, Dr. Newman wasn't exactly the type of doctor that he'd want working with him.

~~~~~~ Roy grimaced as Dr. Newman poked at the cut on his upper left arm. He and Brice had been on a run and it ended with Roy's arm being sliced on a hood ornament of all things. Brice had already called them in as available after getting Dr. Newman's reassurance that Roy would be able to go back on shift.
Dr. Newman had decided that the wound didn't need stitches and should just be watched closely. Roy had been slightly skeptical, but Dr. Newman had at least cleaned the wound again and applied something for the itchiness.
Dr. Newman soon cleared Roy and left the room. He was soon discharged and walked up to Dixie. Dixie smiled as he greeted her.
She spoke "Hi, Roy. I've already got all of the supplies that Mr. Brice requested. How'd it go with Dr. Newman?"
Roy shrugged and said "Not bad. I didn't even need stitches."
Dixie nodded and said "Well, let me know if he does something you don't agree with. I've gotten some complaints about him from certain patients lately, but no one wants to file an official complaint yet. Just be cautious around him."
Roy grimaced and nodded. He was going to ask what Dixie meant, but he and Brice were called out for duty again. He grabbed their supplies and waved as he left. He wondered what sort of complaints were being made, and why they weren't considered official.
~~~~~~ Johnny was relieved when he finally came back on shift. His shoulder was still a little sore, but not so much as to keep him away from work. He was welcomed back to the station warmly.

It wasn't too long after roll call that the klaxons sounded.

"Station 51. Structure fire with trapped civilians. 811 West Corazon Street. 8-1-1 West Corazon Street. Time out: 14:35." Sam dispatched as Captain Stanley wrote down the details and passed them to the Squad as well.

Stanley answered "Station 51, KMG365."

~~~~~~
It didn't take long for Engine and Squad 51 to arrive at the scene. It appeared to be a factory that was on fire. Captain Stanley quickly shouted out orders as Roy and Johnny were sent inside to help get people out after getting their SCBA gear on.
~~~~~~

Roy and Johnny were careful as they entered a part of the building where flames had just been put out. They'd already gotten a few victims out and carried them over to Station 110's paramedics who had been called for as backup.

The building was slowly becoming more and more unstable. They were pretty far in when they heard an ominous noise and Captain Stanley's voice rang through the HT and warned them to get out as fast as they could.

They hadn't found any other victims, but the roof creaked and small pieces of charred debris were raining down on he and Johnny. Roy quickly called out to Johnny and warned him that they needed to get out.

He and Johnny raced towards the exit, but another loud noise echoed and the roof began to collapse. Roy had only just made it out when things suddenly got worse. Roy looked back and saw that Johnny wasn't going to make it to the exit in time.

Roy yelled out in fear for his partner who was trying to rush out, but was too late. The roof collapsed. Metal and concrete rained down upon his partner who had only been a few feet away.

Roy picked up his HT and radioed for backup at his location. He could still see Johnny under debris, but he needed the affirmative to renter the groaning structure. He cursed as he got the response to wait for back-up before reentry.

He shook his head as Marco, Chet, and some of the other from station 110 finally arrived to dig Johnny out. The fire had been contained and put out so they were clear to try and dig Johnny out.

It had felt like it had taken forever to get Johnny free of the debris, and Roy was worried as he checked over his partner once they were away from the dangerous and still crumbling building. He quickly got on his biophone while checking Johnny's vitals and overall state.

Roy quickly instructed Chet on a few things to do while he was talking to Rampart. He and Chet both started taking care of the burns and taking caution around the bloody wound in Johnny's thigh that still had debris embedded.

They had already started Johnny on O2. His mask had been nearly destroyed when they had pulled him from the rubble. They could only presume that he'd inhaled some smoke and dust. They also noted that metal debris that had landed on Johnny had been so hot that it had burned him.

"Rampart this is squad 51. Rampart, I have a male victim, 25 years of age, diaphoretic and cyanotic. O2 has been started. Victim inhaled too much smoke and has burns across his entire abdomen and has metal embedded in the upper left thigh. Victim is unconscious, and there is no response to painful stimuli. Victim's head was struck by falling debris. Pupils are unequally dilated. Pulse 123, respirations 25, BP 92/58. Permission to begin an IV. Be advised that the victim is John Gage." Roy said as he continued treating John.

Dr. Newman grimaced and rolled his eyes and responded "Negative, 51. Transport as soon as possible."

Roy grimaced and radioed back "Repeat, Rampart."

Newman rolled his eyes again and responded "Negative on the IV. Transport when ready."

Roy frowned and spoke into the HT again "Rampart, an IV is needed."

Dr. Newman rolled his eyes and thought of a response "Negative, 51. Follow my orders for transport. Patient may have adverse reaction to IV."

Roy grimaced and switched attempted to switch to a different channel for another hospital to get orders, but it was busy. Rampart was the only one who was responding, and Roy had no choice but to listen to Dr. Newman's orders.

Roy knew exactly what he needed to do to help his partner. Roy then put his HT down while shaking his head. He was angered that Newman hadn't authorized an IV. He gritted his teeth and disobeyed orders. He knew that he'd get in trouble with Newman, but that Brackett would understand.

Roy soon started an IV and followed the usual process of treating Johnny's wounds. He could hear the ambulance in the distance. Johnny still hadn't shown any signs of responding. Roy grimaced once again as he checked the wound on Johnny's thigh again.

The ambulance soon arrived and the attendants helped Roy secure Johnny after securing his neck with a c-collar. Once that was done he stood outside of the vehicle for a minute looking for Captain Stanley.

Roy finally caught sight of Captain Stanley who was grimacing after watching Johnny being loaded into the ambulance.

Captain Stanley called out "Go ahead, Roy. Chet'll take in the Squad. Once we're done with this call, the rest of us will be there. Stay with John."

Roy nodded and got in the ambulance with Johnny.

~~~~~~
They soon arrived at the hospital, and Dixie ushered them to a treatment room with a worried look. Roy noticed that Dr. Newman hadn't shown up to meet them at the ambulance. He and Dixie shared a look.
Dr. Newman finally arrived in the treatment room after Dixie had taken another set of vitals and wrote them down. Roy could tell that she was really worried that Johnny hadn't regained consciousness.
Dr. Newman took one look at the IV in Johnny's arm and said "Mr. DeSoto, I did not authorize an IV. Get out of this treatment room right now. I will have you investigated for this insubordination! Get out now or I will call security!"
Roy grimaced and reluctantly left as Dixie gaped at Dr. Newman with surprise. Dixie was about to say something, but Dr. Newman cut her off by saying "Don't you say anything in protest either, Ms. McCall, or I'll order you out of this room."
Dixie gasped and growled with anger as she began to say "Well I -----", but Dr. Newman rolled his eyes and ordered "Out, Nurse McCall! You've done your job, and now I'll do mine."
Dixie reluctantly left the room and joined a furious Roy in the break room.
Dixie was furious, but she could tell that Roy was even worse off than she was. She could see both the worry for his partner and the anger at Dr. Newman shining in his eyes. She sighed and grabbed two cups of coffee. It was quite unfortunate that Dr. Newman had the authority to kick both of them out of the treatment room like he did.
~~~~~~

A couple of nurses remained in the room with Dr. Newman as he observed Johnny. He poked at the bump on Johnny's head and grimaced. He didn't want to touch the redskin, much less treat it.

The nurses looked at him with confusion as they stood while checking over the IV that remained in Johnny's arm and preparing to follow whatever orders the doctor gave them, thought they had been surprised when he had ordered Nurse McCall out of the room.

Dr. Newman looked at them both and ordered them out as well. The two young nurses shared a look of worry, but did as the doctor ordered. They wondered what Dr. Newman was going to do to treat Johnny.

Dr. Newman could see that Johnny was injured quite substantially, but there wasn't anything that he wanted to do. He could always hand the case off to someone else in the morning or something. He figured that it would survive that long.

He glanced at Johnny's upper left thigh and noticed the jagged piece of debris lodged in it. He carelessly removed the debris and wondered if leaving it untreated would kill the half-breed via too much blood loss. He disposed of the metal in the waste bin and wiped his hands off.

He glanced at Johnny's chart and grimaced. he picked it up and wrote on it that he'd prescribed and already administered pain medicine when he hadn't done anything at all. He also wrote that he'd already had x-rays done and that no breaks had been found. He glanced back at Johnny on the bed and rolled his eyes.

He quickly left the room and handed the chart to one of the nurses. He told her "Give this chart to Nurse McCall next time you see her. I have another patient to attend to, and I can no longer cover Mr. Gage's case. I've already noted that in the chart."

The nurse gaped at Dr. Newman as he left. She had never heard something so outrageous in her life. She quickly rushed off to find Nurse McCall, unaware that Johnny Gage was alone in his treatment room and in the process of having a seizure.

~~~~~~
Dixie and Roy were greatly surprised when a nurse barged into the break room and handed a chart to Dixie while speaking frantically.
Dixie gently took her by the arms after handing the chart to Roy and said "Woah, Francine, slow down."
Francine looked worried as she calmed a little and said "It's Dr. Newman! He's abandoned his patient!"
Dixie cursed as Roy ran out of the room and to Johnny's room. Dixie was soon to follow and Roy was yelling for help as Dixie entered. Johnny was having a seizure. Dixie glanced at Francine, and she raced off to get Dr. Brackett and Dr. Early if she could find them. She hadn't even thought of paging them over the intercom.
~~~~~~

Dr. Brackett and Dr. Early had just finished up a surgery that they had collaborated on, and they were ready for a break. Only, they weren't going to get one.

Just as they began to sip some coffee, Nurse Francine burst into the break room and sighed with relief as the two doctors looked at her.

She spoke "John Gage is having a seizure and Dr. Newman has abandoned him! Nurse McCall asked me to get one or both of you!"

Kel and Joe shared a nervous look as they followed Nurse Francine to Johnny's room. Dixie sighed with relief as she saw them enter.

"Kel, the seizure lasted for an unknown period of time. No one was with him for at least a period of fifteen minutes between when Newman abandoned him and Francine got me. Johnny also has an upper left thigh wound that's still bleeding. It looks like the metal that had been lodged in it was just carelessly taken out. It hasn't been stitched or bandaged." Dixie said as Kel frowned and Joe started working on examining Johnny.

Kel questioned "Do you know if Dr. Newman treated him at all?'

Dixie responded "I don't know, I didn't have time to look at the chart while I was taking precautions during his seizure."

Roy then spoke "His chart says that Dr. Newman gave him some pain medicine and that X-rays were taken, but I'm not so sure that happened."

Kel nodded and worked on Johnny's thigh while Joe spoke "Kel, we've got a problem. I think that Johnny has a subdural hematoma."

Kel grimaced and checked the wound on Johnny's head after finishing up cleaning, stitching, and bandaging the upper left thigh wound. They'd been lucky that they were still in the time frame where it was okay to do stitches.

Kel hummed and confirmed that he believed that Joe was right with his diagnosis of a subdural hematoma. Roy was fearful. He knew that a subdural hematoma could be dangerous if it goes untreated. He just hoped that it hadn't been found too late.

Kel quickly said "Dix, prepare him for the OR, we've got to get it drained if it is a subdural hematoma. That explains the seizure. We can only hope that Newman's negligence hasn't caused us to be too late to save Johnny."

Dixie worked on it as Kel reluctantly requested that Roy leave the room as they would soon have to rush Johnny into surgery. Roy left the room and went towards the waiting area, not at all surprised to see all of the crew waiting.

Captain Stanley spoke first "I stood Station 51 down. How's he doing, Roy?"

Roy gulped and said "Not great, Cap. He didn't get treated properly when we got here, and I got kicked out of his room by Dr. Newman. Newman handed Johnny's case off to someone else. He didn't help Johnny at all."

Roy took in the outraged faces of his co-workers and continued "He had a seizure only minutes ago, and Dr. Early began examining him. They suspect that Johnny's got a subdural hematoma. They're preparing him for surgery right now."

Captain Stanley growled in anger at the negligence that was shown towards Johnny while Chet cursed and vowed that he wanted to tear Newman apart, and Mike agreed to help. Marco's hands were balled into fists as he said a prayer.

They all looked towards the room that they knew Johnny was in as the door opened and Johnny was rushed through on a gurney. They knew that he was being taken to surgery, and they hoped that Johnny would be alright.

~~~~~~
Dr. Newman filed a report against Roy DeSoto for his insubordination. He was furious that a stupid paramedic thought that he knew what to do better than the many years experienced doctor.
~~~~~~

Joe and Kel worked together as they drained what was confirmed to be a subdural hematoma. The process was successful, and Johnny was admitted into the ICU. He was put under observation, and confirmed to be in a coma.

Kel and Joe both went straight to the Hospital Administrator once they'd cleaned up. Dixie and Roy followed closely behind them. Francine also came.

The rest of Station 51's crew had reluctantly left to go back to the station. Captain Stanley had to file some paperwork on the incident. All of them stayed worried.

~~~~~
The Hospital Administrator had been quite surprised when two of his best doctors, one of the best nurses and another nurse, and a well-known paramedic showed up outside of his office and requested an emergency meeting.
Everyone sat down and Roy started the story with how it began at the scene when Newman hadn't authorized an IV. The Hospital Administrator listened with rapt attention, especially since he had recently received a complaint against DeSoto from the same Dr. Newman.
The Hospital Administrator heard the entire story through and got on the Intercom and called for Newman's presence.
~~~~~~

Newman rolled his eyes as he headed towards the Hospital Administrator's office. He knew that there would likely be follow-ups to his complaint against DeSoto, but this was pretty quick.

He grimaced in disgust as he was met with the sight of two doctors he couldn't stand plus the crappy paramedic and that imbecilic nurse.

He quickly said "What are all of them doing here?"

The Hospital Administrator answered "I have some pretty serious accusations regarding you conduct as a Doctor in this hospital, Dr. Newman. Not only do I have accusations from some of my top employees, but I have received accusations and claims of discomfort from some of your previous patients. You have not been here for very long, but you seem to be negligent and rude according to patient interactions and reports."

Dr. Newman sputtered "That's preposterous! I'm a doctor! I treat people the way I see fit!"

The Hospital Administrator raised his eyebrow and said "Oh really, then why do I have an accusation of negligence on two counts concerning Paramedic John  Gage."

Dr. Newman huffed and said "John Gage was fine. I made sure to write notes on his chart that he seemed fine. He just wasn't waking up."

The Hospital Administrator was not too pleased as he said "John Gage is in a coma at this moment due to the fact that you neglected to examine him properly and missed that he was suffering from a subdural hematoma."

Dr. Newman huffed and said "How's that my fault? He was fine when I examined him."

Francine cut in with "No he was not! You even forced Mr. DeSoto and Nurse McCall out of the room before they could do anything! I was in that room, and once we left you gave me the chart and abandoned Mr. Gage! You even have a note here that you wouldn't be handling Mr. Gage's case anymore!"

Newman practically growled as he got frustrated and said "What's so bad about that! Why would I want to treat a redskin like him anyway!"

The Hospital Administrator was enraged at that statement and spoke before anyone else could yell at Newman "YOU ARE FIRED AS OF RIGHT NOW! I WILL NOT TOLERATE DISCRIMINATION IN MY HOSPITAL!"

Newman huffed and said "You can't fire me! I'm one of the best doctors you could have here!"

The Hospital Administrator balled his fists and threatened "Do I need to call security? You are dismissed. You no longer work here, and you will not receive any recommendations from us."

Newman was furious as he opened the office door, exited, and slammed it hard. The other inhabitants of the room shared a glance. They were glad that Newman wouldn't be working there anymore, but it had come at the cost of negligence in the care of John Gage.

~~~~~~
Dr. Newman was furious as he left the Hospital Administrator's office. All of those idiots who got him fired would pay, but first John Gage had to pay for starting the whole thing! He knew that the hospital staff wouldn't know that he'd been fired for at least another few hours, so he'd have to be quick.
He soon arrived at the pharmacy and grabbed what he needed. He had been lucky, as the usual attendant was busy talking to someone else. He took the desired drug for the murder and swiped a few syringes that he'd need to inject it. He took a few minutes to prefill the syringes.
Dr. Newman didn't look at anyone as he headed for the Intensive Care Room that he knew John Gage still resided. A few nurses spared him wary glances as they caught sight of his angry looking demeanor.
He glanced around the ICU and noted that none of Gage's friends seemed to be around. He must have hit a stroke of luck. he had expected them to come straight back after the meeting with him and the hospital administrator.
Though, he was also sure that Dixie and the two pesky doctors were on duty in another wing at the moment. Dr. Newman quickly entered Johnny's room. His eyebrows rose in surprise as he caught sight of that disgrace Morton.
Dr. Newman spoke "Morton, what are you doing with my patient? Put that chart down and go back to your assigned wing!"
Morton grimaced and huffed as he confronted Dr. Newman by saying "Dr. Newman, you're not the one treating Gage. His chart lists that Dr. Brackett and Dr. Early are in charge of his treatment and Joe asked me to check on Gage while they were in a meeting with you. I am also assigned to this wing at the moment."
Dr. Newman rolled his eyes and surprised Morton by withdrawing one of the syringes from his pocket and jabbing it into Morton's arm. Morton was sputtering and collapsed to the floor in surprise as the drug started to affect him quickly.
Dr. Newman grimaced with disgust as he put the used syringe back in his pocket and shook his head while saying "You coloreds always think that you're all that. You're just more trash that needs getting rid of."
Morton was helpless as he finally lost consciousness after seeing Dr. Newman holding a syringe over Johnny's arm.
~~~~~~

Roy grimaced as he finally got past Francine. The worried nurse had stopped him from leaving the hall and asked for a full explanation of the outcome and if Dr. Newman was fired for sure even though she had been in the room with them. Roy had reluctantly complied, as he knew that Dr. Early had asked Morton to check on Johnny. Not that anything would change yet, since Johnny was still in a coma.

He quickly made his way to the ICU and went to open the door to his partner's room. He was shocked by what he saw. He acted quickly and tackled Dr. Newman to the floor. Dr. Newman struggled.

Roy yelled for security and help, hoping that someone would hear him since he couldn't get to the phone or call button. He and Dr. Newman traded punches until Dr. Newman stabbed him with another syringe and pushed the plunger in.

Roy yelped at the sting of the syringe and got another good punch in before the drug started to take affect. Just then, security and Dr. Brackett barged into the room. Dr. Newman had just pushed Roy away from him.

Dr. Newman growled and tried to barrel past those in his way, but between security and Dr. Brackett's heavy punch to the gut, Dr. Newman was taken down and restrained.

Roy had passed out by the time Dr. Newman was fully restrained.

Dr. Newman smirked and said "You're too late! All three of these mean are on their way to death! You'll be next, Kelly Brackett, and then Nurse McCall and Joe Early! You'll all die by my hand! I will ensure it!"

Dr. Brackett was disgusted by what he was hearing, but he had one of the security guards leave and call for Dr. Early and a team of nurses. He then instructed the other security guy to search Dr. Newman's pockets, as he could see at least two discarded syringes.

The pockets were searched, and Dr. Brackett cursed as he realized what Dr. Newman had injected the three unconscious men with. HE had injected them with what could be a lethal dose of a serious tranquilizer!

He then heard the tell-tale sign of a flat-line and cursed as he made his way over to Johnny. He started chest compressions and began shouting orders as a nurse came into the room. The nurse rushed out and asked for a crash cart.

Dr. Brackett was terrified as he worked on getting Johnny's heart to beat again "Come on, John. Don't do this. Don't let Newman win!"

Not very long later, the crash cart arrived along with Dr. Joe Early who took in the state of the room. He quickly bent to check Roy's pulse and called for assistance. He began to work on life saving measures, as Roy's heart had slowed to a dangerous rate.

He looked up as he heard a heart monitor go back to a normal sinus rhythm. He heard Kelly Brackett exhale with relief and watched for a second as Kel put his fingers to Morton's throat to check for a pulse.

Dr. Brackett cursed as he then began chest compressions on Morton. The crash cart was still handy, and it had to be used on Morton. Dr. Early focused on Roy and shook his head as he realized that he was likely going to need that crash cart for Roy very soon as well.

They may have temporarily stabilized Johnny's heart rate, but until they got something to counteract the effects of the tranquilizer, all three of the men would not live much longer. Both doctors looked up as the door barged open with Dixie and a few other nurses coming in. Another police officer came in to take Dr. Newman out.

None of the doctors listened to Newman's horrible rant as he was dragged away in handcuffs for attempted murder among other charges.

Dixie knew what they needed and immediately had two of the nurses fetch the drug that would help keep their friends alive and neutralize the tranquilizer.

Dr. Brackett spoke "Dix, John's heart stopped for a little bit, but I was able to shock him back to life, and Morton's back now too. His pulse was really weak. I didn't have to shock him, but I did have to move him and do CPR. How's Roy?"

Joe answered "He never lost his pulse, but his respirations have decreased and his heart rate is still low. I'm doing everything that I can, but if we don't get the neutralizer soon, we'll probably have to shock him too."

Dixie grimaced, but brightened as one of her nurses came back with the nullifying drug.

Dixie said "Finally!"

She then carefully filled three syringes with the drug. She handed one to Joe and one to Kel. She injected Johnny while the other two injected their respective patients.

Dr. Brackett then said "Dix, get us three shots of adrenaline. It will help normalize their heart rates while working with the nullifying drug."

Dixie nodded and did as directed.

The adrenaline was quickly put to use.

~~~~~~
Dr. Brackett had stayed in the room with Johnny while Joe had an orderly roll a couple of gurneys in. It had been hard, and Johnny had to be intubated, but eventually, all three were stabilized, and Roy and Morton even showed signs of waking up after about twenty minutes with close monitoring. Johnny was still in his coma, but he was stable and no longer in danger of death by overdose.
Kel wanted to keep both Morton and Roy in the same room as Johnny for safety's sake even though he knew that Newman had been taken away. He sat on the edge of Johnny's bed and watched the heart monitor.
He looked up from his position seated on the edge of Johnny's bed when Dixie came back in. He honestly hadn't noticed her leave in the first place. He smiled. She had brought a couple of chairs.
She sat them both beside Johnny's bed. It had been exhausting. Kel got up and sat in one of the chairs and she sat int he other. Kel sighed. That had been quite an impactful experience. He had almost lost three people that he cared about.
Dixie smiled softly as Kel laid his head on her shoulder and said "You know, you don't really expect to be this involved in a patient's life when you become a doctor."
Dixie smiled and softly said "I know, Kel, but these aren't just any patients. They're co-workers. You care about them. You may say otherwise, but we all know that you care."
Kel snickered and said "Yeah, I know. I think that I'm going to change over to the ICU for the rest of my shift. John's technically still Joe and I's patient anyway. Hey, where did Joe go?"
Dixie smiled and said "Joe made the hard decision to be the one to call Joanne and tell her that her husband and Johnny were almost killed."
Kel cringed and said "Yikes."
Dixie huffed and laid her head atop his. They stayed like that as they watched Roy and Morton continue to stir on their respective gurneys. Dixie knew that she really shouldn't be showing affection like this while on duty, but it had been an emotional afternoon and night, and it required special circumstances, otherwise there wouldn't be so many people in one ICU room at the same time, not including the guard outside the door.
~~~~~~

Joanne was terrified as she listened to Joe Early's recount of what had happened in Johnny's hospital room. She quickly made sure that her friend across the street could watch the kids while she went to the hospital to check on both Roy and Johnny.

She couldn't believe that the wretched Dr. Newman had tried to murder two of the people she cares for the most other than her kids.

~~~~~~
Roy groaned as he finally regained consciousness.
Joe was back in the room and said "Easy, Roy. I don't suggest that you try to sit up yet."
The events that had transpired then came back to Roy and he cursed and said worriedly "Where's Newman? Is Johnny okay?"
Joe smiled and said "Johnny's fine. He's still in his coma, but we were able to counteract the tranquilizer. Newman's been arrested."
Roy sighed in relief and Joe said "I've also called your wife. She should be here sometime soon."
Roy nodded. He was glad that Newman couldn't try to hurt Johnny again. He tried to sit up, and Joe sighed and reluctantly helped him. He then groaned and rubbed his forehead.
Roy then said "This feels worse than a hangover. Did I get a concussion?"
Joe said "No. I checked after everything calmed a little bit, and you don't have a concussion. Your pupillary response was normal as well. You'll have some pretty big bruises from the fight, but it doesn't look like anything was broken."
Roy nodded and looked over to see that Dixie and Kel were just watching them. He unenthusiastically waved at them. They both smiled with relief that Roy had finally reawakened.
They were then startled slightly as they heard a groan and Morton say "Would you shut up already! I feel so bad. Let's just sleep this off! We can get angry at Newman later."
Joe snickered and said "Well now I know that your headache must be pretty bad if Morton's complaining about it!"
The other conscious ones shared a light laugh as Morton huffed in annoyance.
Joe then told Morton "You're lucky to be alive. Newman injected you with a dose of tranquilizer that was almost lethal."
Morton stayed laying down as his brow crinkled and said "Well, thanks for saving my life, guys. Can I actually go back to sleep and get rid of this headache, or are there special circumstances this time? I'm still an intern, and I've never dealt with an attempted murder before, much less an attempted murder of myself."
Joe snickered and said "A replacement's already been called to cover your shift, Morton. You can fall back asleep. The headache should go away soon."
Morton grunted and acknowledgement and soon fell asleep. His snores were fairly quiet. Not much longer after that, Joanne came through the door and glanced at Johnny fro a minute before going to Roy.
She teared up as she sat on the gurney beside him and side-hugged him while Joe walked over to Johnny and checked his vitals again in order to give Roy and Joanne a small bit of privacy, as no one was willing to leave the room at the moment.
Joanne sniffled as she said "I know that everything had happened before Joe even called me, but I was so scared that something else could happen! Joe told me that you were both still alive, but I was scared!"
Roy held Joanne close and said "I'm fine, honey. Newman's been taken away."
Joanne nodded and held Roy close. She wasn't going to leave that hospital room until Roy was discharged, if he had even been admitted yet!
She then furrowed her brow and said "Has anyone called the station to update them on what's happened."
Everyone's look told her that no one had called the station yet.
Joe quickly said "I'll go call them, now."
~~~~~~

Captain Stanley answered the phone on the second ring, and he could tell that the others were listening in on the conversation. He took in a deep breath and his face became red as he heard the entire story. The only benefit was that Newman had been taken into custody. He thanked Dr. Early for the information and hung up the phone.

He quickly informed everyone else on what had occurred. Captain Stanley made the decision to call them in as unavailable for the rest of the shift. They need to be with their fellow firefighters who were recovering at the hospital, especially after hearing about all that had transpired.

~~~~~~
Roy and Morton both were kept for observation the next day. Neither one of them had any complications remaining from the forced overdose that almost killed them. The guys of Station 51 were sticking close as well.
Johnny still showed no signs of waking up even as his bandages were changed.
Another day passed, and an officer came by to collect Roy, Morton, Dixie, Joe, and Kel's statements on the incident. There was quite enough evidence to convict Dr. Newman. The officer had even revealed that they had dug up previous complaints from previous clients that had been buried.
Roy was able to return home with Joanne and hug his kids while telling them that Johnny was sick and had to stay in the hospital for a while.
Dr. Newman had been a racist and horrible man the whole time, and it was horrible that it took them so long to get him away from people.
Dr. Newman was sentenced to prison only a week later.
~~~~~~

Another week passed, and Roy had been back on shift. He had run out of days that he could take off. He had wanted to stay with his partner, but he couldn't. You could bet that he'd be looking in on Johnny whenever he and his temporary partner Brice had to bring a patient in to Rampart.

He just wished that Johnny would wake up. It was so terrifying to see John Gage lying in a hospital bed and in a coma. He would always be up there on his days off as well. He always made sure that everyone from station 51 knew how Johnny was doing, and if he ever showed any signs of waking up.

~~~~~~
It was one month after the accident when Roy was off work that he was sitting with Johnny and felt Johnny's hand twitch in his own. Roy looked up and at Johnny's face in anticipation as he pressed the call button.
He watched with glee as Johnny's eyes fluttered open. He watched Johnny grimace in slight confusion, but was grateful that Johnny didn't seem to be fighting the Ventilator.
Johnny glanced at Roy with thankfulness in his eyes and all Roy could say was "Welcome back, Partner.
~~~~~~

Johnny was successfully extubated shortly after a nurse and Dr. Early came in after Roy hit the call button. Dr. Early had been so happy to see that Johnny was finally awake and had Nurse Francine call for Dr. Brackett and Dixie.

Johnny was smiling as Roy continued to hold his hand. Dr. Brackett and Dixie finally arrived, and were overjoyed to see that Johnny was awake and seemingly aware after one month in a coma.

~~~~~~
Roy briefly left Johnny to make a call to the station and Joanne. Everyone was overjoyed that Johnny was awake again. Now the road ahead for Johnny Gage was to be filled with physical therapy and lots of support from friends.
~~~~~~

It took another week and a half before Johnny was even cleared to leave the hospital, and much to the kid's delight, Johnny was staying with the DeSotos for a little while.

The burn scars were pretty prominent, and the scar on his upper left thigh was pretty big, but they didn't bother Johnny too much. He had survived, and Roy and Joanne were helping him so much.

Joanne was a blessing when it concerned getting through all of the sessions of physical therapy. They were grueling, but Johnny knew that they'd be worth it once he was able to return to Station 51.

He was mostly thankful that the injuries he had sustained hadn't caused any brain damage. It had been a miracle that the subdural hematoma hadn't caused any permanent brain damage. He supposed that he was lucky that Nurse Francine had gotten help for him so quickly after realizing that Newman had neglected his duties as a doctor.

Another couple of weeks of physical therapy passed, and Johnny was finally cleared for duty. The coma had been rough on his muscles and the physical therapy helped with both that and facilitated the healing of his leg muscles where he had been hit by debris.

He was so grateful for everything that Roy and the guys of Station 51 were doing for him. He couldn't have asked for a better family.

~~~~~~
A few weeks after that, Dr. Newman was found dead in his prison cell. He had apparently made the wrong man angry with his inflammatory remarks.
~~~~~~

Johnny breathed in a happy breath as he was cheerfully greeted by Mike in the kitchen. He quickly got himself a cup of coffee and stood against the counter. He was so glad to be back.

Roy soon came into the kitchen after changing into his uniform and smiled at his partner as he got himself a cup of coffee.

He said "Well, Johnny, I'm glad that you're finally back. Don't forget that Joanne, the kids, and I still want you over for dinner every other day though."

Johnny snickered and said "I wouldn't dream of forgetting, Roy."

Chet then came in and said "Welcome back, Johnny."

Johnny nodded and listened as Chet began to bicker with Marco about something while Roy asked Mike about his spaghetti again. Johnny smiled. It felt so good to be back home again.

Thank you for reading!

My character has been held captive for 13 years and tortured by being set on fire multiple times. The captor always put the fire out before it spread too far on her body. What would he need to do to keep her from getting infected/dehydrated?

Ooh, that would be pretty tricky. Skin is extremely fragile when it comes to heat, just look at the blisters you can get from touching a hot pot. Setting it on fire, even for a short period, could result in extreme damage. There are a whole host of problems like second and third degree burns (excruciatingly painful) that would give her tissue and nerve death. Then there’s blood poisoning. The tissue death could get into her bloodstream, poisoning the blood and killing her. The heat from the fire could burn her lungs from being exposed to it so often, not to mention if there are embers or ashes that float into her airway. I don’t know, in my opinion I just don’t think using fire for torture, especially on a regular basis, is practical. It’s just too damaging and not easily controlled.

It's Just That One Day I Wanted To Tinker With References For Myself.

It's just that one day I wanted to tinker with references for myself.

In the cartoon, these comrades always seemed to be the same in physique, so I paid attention to working on strengthening the obvious differences. (The arms, legs and head were specially cut off for these references, since most of all I wanted to focus on the torso.)

Maybe I'll improve it even more when I improve my skills.

Shin Godzilla

Shin Godzilla

My notes are in the video here, but I will put some here.

Designing a more human version of Shin Godzilla was so complicated. What he represents, what he is, what the film is critiquing, etc. He is the persecution of the masses, the god of destruction. How does one draw that?

Like most, Shin Godzilla is high up on the list of the favorites of all of Goji's filmography.

So Uhh, I've Never Posted Anything On Tumblr But I Thought I'd Share My AU And Some Pictures I Edited

So uhh, I've never posted anything on Tumblr but I thought I'd share my AU and some pictures I edited in the bus.

I was thinking about Tony (somehow) surviving the snap, but ending up with right hemisphere brain damage and severe burn wounds on the right side of his face. This is due to the severe gamma radiation. (I heard that radiation can kill whole a$$ planets.)

Look, I'm not a neurospecialist, but I think the right brain controls the left side of your body. (Including your left eye's sight.) He'll have troubles with the functions of his left hand, for example. It'll be harder to control. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My AU is that Tony ended up blind in his left eye and that he's having issues with language, 3D forms and his over all creativity. These are functions of the right brain. That is a devastating blow to his intelligence, of course.

These things could prevent him from being Iron Man, making him retire and live a peaceful (though slightly disabled) life with his family (canon or non canonical bc I'm a sucker for Stony). Rehabilition can be a terrible pain in the ass beforehand, but knowing Tony Stark, he'll power through.

Besides, I think this concept could bring us pretty sweet fanfictions? Both fluffy and angsty? The Avengers buying him a million balloons when he's in the hospital? Iron Man fans gathering in front of the hospital and singing AC/DC songs in horrible voices but they do it bc they appreciate him? A Tony Stark statue being built and Rhodey going to praise it and Tony watches on TV from his bed? And Rhodey says they spelled the name wrong bc it's "Stank" and Tony riots in bed?? Gimmeeeeee.

I just want him to be alive okAY.
