Good fences
Yesterday there was another infinitely depressing incident with a baby bird, a snake, and Marley the cat, but this time with cardinals instead of blue jays. This time the snake was much more clearly the prime mover in it all so maybe the cat will at least be able to show up in the yard without being attacked by cardinals.
Today when I got up and got the dogs out to pee, the male cardinal was staying very close to one spot in a tree over the yard (small yard, many trees) and I went to see if there was anything there I needed to keep the dogs and cat away from. Instead of a baby bird, I found an old muddy ziploc baggie half hidden in the (unauthorized) vinca. It had to have been thrown over the back fence from next door at some point but I have no idea when. It had exactly what you'd expect inside, as best I could tell. I took it and threw it in the trash, because what the hell else is there to do with that? It's pretty obvious where it has to have come from but I can't go knock on the door next door and ask if they lost anything over here.
This cardinal got stuck in my garage and since she didn’t fly away when I approached, I gently picked her up, and she decided to just stay in my hand for multiple minutes. I ended up just sitting down and hanging out with her, talking to her in a gentle voice.
She eventually hopped from my hand to the ground, cheeped at me, then flew away.
This is genuinely the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me.
I’m a Disney Princess now I guess

Libra rising is such a powerful placement because of the versatility it can display in relationships and career; they don't let people know what is behind their eyes... could be everything or nothing at all ♎

Love me some good ol' cardinal symbolism

Look at this lil' goober of a bird. This was inspired by seeing a fledgling cardinal taking its first flight—er, first hops—around the front yard that morning! It's so funny how they look at such a young age.

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words; but what about a video?

… feeding the young. Mountainous Parts of the Northern Hemisphere.

Male cardinals are beginning to look brighter and brighter, the closer we come to spring. Healthy males are newly molted, with bright new feathers.
Soon, pair-bonded males will start mating rituals with their long-term mates, while young, single males will compete to find a life-long companion.
Northern Cardinals are especially monogamous. They are never too far away from each other.

Happy Pride from the pride flock! 🏳️🌈💖
