The Mikaelson family’s relationships, especially their romantic relationships, are weird. Klaus and Elijah have a weird thing going on in which they share partners (Katherine, Tatia, Hayley - but probably more. I think it’s kinda gross being with someone who’s been with your brother but to each their own I guess). Freya fell in love with someone she kidnapped - which is never a great sign.
But the worst is probably Rebekah who is technically Marcel’s aunt - and yet they’re together romantically. Davina is like Marcel’s daughter - and yet she’s with Kol who is like Marcel’s uncle which would mean that Davina is like Marcel’s aunt. However, if Hope is the sister of Marcel, and Marcel is the father of Davina, would that make Hope her aunt? Or if Davina’s with Kol, does that make Hope her niece and Marcel her nephew?
Honestly I think the only Mikaelson sibling to have a normal (as normal as it can be given that they’re vampires and live through centuries) romantic relationship is Finn. I think he and Sage were a pretty normal, average couple compared to everyone else.
I don’t know… I’m trying not to analyze the Mikaelsons and their messed up relationships too much because it kinda grosses me out and makes my head hurt. Im trying to focus on the bright side - no one is actually related - so that’s good.
The Mikaelson are each so fucked up and their personal relationships are even more screwed.
It was implied in The Vampire Diaries the Mikaelson shared partners sexually, and there was this one girl called Mary Porter/Scary Mary, who was a "Original groupie". She was close to all of them, to the point none of them could "remember" by which sibling she had been turned. Knowing how fucked up they are, sharing partners isn't something weird, especially to Klaus and Elijah who loved fighting over the same girl.
Freya falling in love with Keelin was so fucked up. I like them, they're cute once you get past the whole kidnapping thing, but it's wrong regardless. After she finally got with Freya, her storyline was reduced to nothing: she just became her love interest and stopped being her own person. Not surprising, though, the writers of this shows love doing that.
Marcel falling for Rebekah is just straight up grooming, and it's crazy how it was never addressed or how the fandom denies it. You're gonna tell me she saw him grow up, saw his brother love and care for him as his own son, and still managed to be attracted to him? To even marry him and want children with him? It's a miracle he never called her aunt at least once, even if it was sarcastically. I really don't like how the show kept painting Marcel as the bad guy and Rebekah as the victim because he refused to be/couldn't be with her, like why?
I can overlook Kol and Davina because he never saw Marcel as family and she never saw the Mikaelson as her family either, didn't even like them. Still wrong tho, because Davina was like fifteen/sixteen by the time they met and Kol/Kaleb looked around his twenties.
Finn and Sage were absolutely adorable. I truly like Finn and I wished he had at least a chance at a happy ending, but sadly he died twice and he couldn't even mourn the woman he loved.
At least they're not related, but fucked up anyway. I try not to analyze the Mikaelson relationships either because they're clearly problematic and fucked up even for an universe such as The Vampire Diaries, but oh well.

Another crazy thing is Julie Plec saying Bonnie is too good for Kol and that he's too evil for her, then pairing him with a white witch.... (no hate to Davina, but if he's irredeemable for Bonnie, then he’d irredeemable for Davina, too)
It's crazy because she also paired Bonnie with Enzo, a vampire who if I'm not wrong did abuse/kinda terrorize her friends, maybe not to the extent Klaus or Damon did but regardless (only if my memory serves me right; I don't remember much from Enzo, hence why I'm currently rewatching season five.)
Kol literally killed Davina and we're supposed to buy he's the better choice for her? Whether you're mind controlled or not, having your blood sucked out of your body by your boyfriend would leave a scarr for sure and the fact that Davina never got any trauma from it is insane. Bonnie went through worse stuff every season, of course, but she was never allowed to show any emotion onscreen, especially if it was against her white friends.
Saying Bonnie is "too pure" or has "too strong morals" to be with any Mikaelson or Salvatore is just stupid and clearly wrong. Elena and Caroline hated Damon and Klaus, until they didn't, it's easy to see women are being constantly retconned to fit into this shows storylines yet no one ever bats an eye until it comes to the main black woman from The Vampire Diaries.
And this isn't just with romances either. Fans believe Bonnie would hate Rebekah, when there isn't literally any proof to corroborate this and they haven't even interacted, they think she would hate Hope for being a Mikaelson when Bonnie has never been that kind of person. They're desperate to prove she's an anti vampires or generally a prude simply because she's traumatized and rightfully so. She decides to not be nice to the Salvatore brothers in season one after they got her grandmother killed and she's turned into some sort of supervillain because of it.
If Bonnie's actress had been white, I'm pretty sure her character and bloodline would have been in Mikaelson level by the show and fandom.

Freya - Barbie. She’s a girls girl, through and through
Finn - Oppenheimer with Elijah cause Barbie didn’t seem like his taste. Would have gone to see Barbie with Freya but knew Klaus would laugh at him
Elijah - Oppenheimer. It’s Elijah, what did you expect?
Klaus - Barbie. Wanted to watch Oppenheimer with Elijah but then found out Finn was going and needed an excuse to get out of it. Said that Hayley was forcing him to go see Barbie, then proceeded to force her to see Barbie
Kol - Barbie. Knew about it before any of the others and immediately told Davina that they were going, and she was all for it. He dressed up as Barbie and when Davina came out dressed as Barbie as well, he made her change to dress as Ken. Gasped in the theaters and threw popcorn at the screen. Cried at the end, you know the scene. Cursed men and societal standards, expectations, and limitations the entire time. An absolute menace. Don’t go with him to the movies. Ever. Almost got kicked out, but he compelled security to leave him alone
Rebekah - Barbie. It’s Rebekah, duh? Bought a ticket for Marcel and didn’t tell him, then dragged him away from Oppenheimer into the Barbie theater
Marcel - Barbie. Had bought a ticket to Oppenheimer, in a different theater than where the others were. But then Rebekah came and dragged him away, though he didn’t exactly put up much of a fight. Secretly really liked the movie and went back later in the week to watch it again
Keelin - Barbie. Wanted to watch Oppenheimer more, but Freya was excited to see Barbie so she went with her. Ended up going to see Oppenheimer the next day with Marcel
Hayley - Barbie. Wasn’t really that interested in either, but then Klaus dragged her to see Barbie and said he needed an excuse to not see Oppenheimer with Finn. She made him owe her something of course. [Don’t do anything for free ladies, especially for a man] Her and Klaus went out drinking afterwards and came home drunk, singing all the songs from the movie very loudly and waking up the entire house. Both denied it in the morning
Davina - Barbie. She wanted to watch it, so was very happy when Kol was the one who suggested it. Surprised at how excited he was and thought he would would pretend she was making him go and dress up. But he let everyone know it was his idea and that he was the biggest Barbie fan
Hope - Barbie. Was gonna watch Oppenheimer with Marcel and Keelin, but all her girls, gays, and theys wanted to watch Barbie with her. So her schedule was filled with watching Barbie back to back with a different person each time. Decided to just wait for the movies to come out to stream to watch Oppenheimer, and Barbie again since it had quickly become her favorite movie
