Initially, it is not the death of Christ that saves us, but our belief in it. Yet our faith in the promise of Christ's salvation through his death and resurrection must have a true basis; otherwise our faith is in vain. That's why John says, 'For whatever is born [or reborn] of God overcomes the world; and THIS IS THE VICTORY that has overcome the world—our faith.' --1 John 5:4. 'By faith Noah, being warned by God about things NOT YET SEEN ... became an heir [was saved] of the righteousness which is according to faith.' --Hebrews 11:7. This is why we are reminded that faith is not of things already witnessed, but of things to come: 'Now faith is the assurance of things HOPED FOR, the conviction of things NOT [YET] SEEN.' --Hebrews 11:1.

Walking down and around Rio de Janeiro as a young man in the Navy was exciting! The beaches, city and weather were absolutely beautiful and it was easy to get distracted at so much to see. Glancing across a wide boulevard I saw the famous “Sugerloaf” mountain jutting up from the yacht harbor ahead and excitedly when the light turned green I hurriedly stepped off the curb to cross the street to get a closer look.
No sooner than I did, the strong hand of my weightlifting Navy buddy snatched me by the collar and violently yanked me back off my feet as a little Fiat going about 60 miles an hour ran the light and clipped the curb - my flailing shoe lightly brushing a side view mirror as the car raced by.
My friend 'Rack' scolded me saying, “They don’t obey traffic lights down here son! When no ones coming they GO!” I certainly would have been killed if my shipmate had not literally had my back.
I didn’t see the danger coming, and likewise in our lives God often delivers us from dangers we never saw coming. As today’s verse tells us, he nestles us under the shadow of His wings until the danger passes by.
The key here friend is to have HIM 'Have Your Back' and the only way is if you stay close to God, because when you are close to Him in THIS life, then He will be close to you in the next life.
