Dyslexic - Tumblr Posts

hi ya! I'm not dyslexic but I wanted to know what it was like to be dyslexic?

Holy shit, okay. That is a short question with a long answer.

First, I wanna preface that dyslexia is a processing disorder that has its own little spectrum like autism. That basically means that the way I experience dyslexia is not how every person with it does.

A lot of people don't know that dyslexia isn't just a reading disorder. Some don't even have the reading deficit. I do, unfortunately. The best I can describe it as is imagine you're trying to read while going down a really bumpy road. The letters vibrate, you loose track of the lines you're on, you skip lines, stuff like that.

Then ya add in some aspects like how it's a processing disorder. That's usually the cause for all the letter confusion. When ya have a brain that "thinks in 3d images," b's, d's, p's, and q's can be hard. I also associate sounds with the wrong letters. For example, if I'm writing, I will most likely switch a v and z in a word. I also associate words with taste, but that might just be a me thing...

My dyslexia interferes with my hearing and memory as well. Well, not so much hearing as understanding what's being said and the speed at which I understand it. This is also heightened by my ADHD, so I can't speak on it from a purely dyslexic point. The same goes for my memory. I know that part of the whole "struggle between knowing what's a memory, dream, idea, or movie" is largely due to my dyslexia.

Dyslexia is responsible for changing the brain, too. Most dyslexics have much more active right hemispheres than left. Doesn't mean we're stupid, but, for me anyways, it means that grasping certain concepts it hard. It also means I'm not an auditory or visual learner exclusively, but I need a mixture of both depending on the subject. Because of the change in the right hemisphere, dyslexics are prone to being much more artistic. Every dyslexic I've known, including myself, is excellent at different medians of art. The number of stories I have in my head that I would love to write down is incredulous.

Sorry this was kinda long. I am a sucker for psychology. Ever since I was diagnosed with dyslexia and my brother with autism, I wanted to understand them better. So, this kinda made me nerd out. Took me a hot second to post this cause I kept finding spelling and grammar errors. Probably didn't find them all...

just found out that in the audio books on audible they made Snufkin sounf like he’s a 40 year old northern English guy and i hate it, would not recommend

[just 2 b clear it’s not him sounding northern that i hate it’s him sounding 40 when the book has gay undertones between him and moomin since the writer based moomin on herself and snufkin on her ex and in the audio book moomin still sounds young]

i just found out u can get moomin books on audible!!!!

heyhey! just letting some people know I really struggle reading "t3xt liek d1z" and "text like this" as I am dyslexic (it's especially bad when they're combined!) and was just wondering if it would be possible to add a translated version next to it for others who struggle reading it please?

eg "1 juzt had a cool azf ha1r day (I just had a cool asf hair day)"

I didn't think of this originally while writing BUT using numbers instead of letters (eg "l1ke" or "lik3") actually messes with screen readers!! so please please please add translations!

Stan: "Whazzat say?" Ford: "Free tacos."
Stan: "I'm too dumb to read."
Stan: "Books are dumb."
Stan, reading a page in the journal: "D-Don't— Odne...? Th- the p-prl?"
A random page in the journal full of incomprehensible squiggles. Stan: "How the fuck am I supposed to read this?"
Mabel: "Grunkle Stan, I think you're dyslexic!" Stan: "Dys-what now?"
Mabel: "It's when words move and float around and junk! It makes it hard to read!" Stan: "Huh. Maybe I am dyscalxic."

Just some Dyslexic Stan scribbles. I do not have dyslexia, and I won’t pretend to know what it would look like! I’ve just seen some examples online. Also, Mabel’s explanation is obviously not fully accurate.

ALSO, I do not believe anyone with dyslexia is dumb. I just think Stan, especially as a child, would believe that the reason he couldn’t read was because he was dumb (likely because that’s what his father would say.) I just wanted to make these things clear!

Star Wars characters with a dyslexic reader

A/N~I'M NOT DYSLEXIC DO I APOLOGISE IF ANY OF THIS IS INCORRECT 😅 LET ME KNOW IF IT IS AND I'LL CORRECT IT.

Star Wars Characters With A Dyslexic Reader

Luke

He decides to take matters into his own hands. He gets R2-D2 and C-3PO to try and help you with whatever you need. If that doesn't work, poor baby has no idea on what to do to help you with your headaches or to make you feel better. He just likes to comfort you whenever you need it.

Leia

When she does find it amusing that you mess things up, she finds it adorable how you try your hardest to read words out. It's the cutest thing ever to her! Slaps Hans round the head when he takes the piss out of you. If you get sad that he does it to much her and Chewie are the best cuddlers.

Han

He loves it. It's so funny to him and he never gets bored of even the smallest mistakes. There is no way in hell that this man is helping you with anything and he even puts pressure on you to read him out signs or maps or whatever. He just doesn't understand your struggle, bo matter how hard you bite back at him for insulting you.

Anakin

This bitch finds it so funny when you say things wrong and every night he asks you to read for him. He does try to help you and act serious but he can't help but laugh when you get things completely wrong. If you get upset that you mix your letters and numbers up, he will try and be more serious only because you're sad.

Padme

She tries her absolute hardest to help you with reading and getting the correct letters in order. Demands people to find materials or something to help you with reading and fixing it when reading out loud. Overall, she's incredibly understanding and will do anything to make stuff easier for you.

; loving the new-ish trend of hey everyone let's use fancy fonts that are really hard to read for anyone but especially dyslexic people, anyone in the blind community, screen reader users and people who get headaches trying to focus on things too long, etc. Whoo !! This is a great idea that won't effect anyone !! /s
