What is meditation to you?

I personally have a connection to meditation through doing all of the above throughout the week. Sometimes I donโ€™t have time to sit down and relax, so I meditate through doing house chores. Sometimes at work, when Iโ€™m feeling incredibly stressed, I take a moment to breathe a couple of deep breaths and easing the tensions in the body. So what style do you prefer? ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ

May 2023 Tarot Reading

May 2023 Tarot Reading

Deck: Fairy Tarot by Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine, illustrated by Howard David Johnson

This is the month that we start to see more green as the April storms have nurtured the soils and give life to the trees, flowers, and grass. No doubt we will be seeing an explosion of Spring color in the next couple of weeks.

This month's pull features two minor arcana cards:

Ace of Summer: "Open your heart to love. The beginning of a new intimate relationship or the rebirth of a current one. The awakening of psychic abilities or spiritual epiphanies."

Seven of Spring: "Be assertive! Don't back down from what you believe. Courageously stand up for yourself."

I want to focus on gratitude this month and bringing the Ace of Summer into this mindset it can mean that we focus too much on what we desire and aspire to be rather than who we are. Take the time to truly feel grateful for yourself, the good ways that you can handle yourself, and possible love from others (friends, family, or even a new romance). Don't allow the hate from the world effect you as a good person, reawaken what you believe in and stay in stride with what is right.

As for Seven of Summer, this card shouts in the first line to be assertive! There is nothing wrong with holding your ground, state what you believe in and be proud of what you believe in. When showing your gratitude throughout this month, remember why you are doing it and why it is so important to you. Don't let the unkind words of others put you down for something that you truly want to be a part of. This can go for anything in the home space, school, or even work with promotional work and guiding others if you need to.

Cartomancy

Cartomancy

A tarot styled divination method using standard playing cards. This oracle first appeared in Europe in the 14th century and is still used sporadically today. Practitioners of this divination are commonly called cartomancers. Cards can be laid in a variety of spreads and functions much like a tarot deck. As such, cartomancy decks should be designated and regarded with all the respect of a deck of tarot cards. The meanings of the cards are as follows:

Hearts

โ€ข Ace: Love, beginning, happiness, friendship

โ€ข King: Fair-haired man, affectionate and generous, but impetuous

โ€ข Queen: Fair-haired woman, trustworthy

โ€ข Jack: Fair-haired young person, good friend

โ€ข 10: Good fortune, joy

โ€ข 9: Desires fulfilled

โ€ข 8: Invitations/partings

โ€ข 7: Someone unreliable

โ€ข 6: Unexpected good fortune, generosity

โ€ข 5: Jealousy, indecision

โ€ข 4: Changes, travel

โ€ข 3: Need for caution

โ€ข 2: Friendship, success

Clubs

โ€ข Ace: Harmony, property, achievement, love

โ€ข King: Dark-haired man, honest, open

โ€ข Queen: Dark-haired woman, strong, helpful

โ€ข Jack: Reliable friend

โ€ข 10: Fortune, abundance

โ€ข 9: New romance

โ€ข 8: Opposition, danger of recklessness

โ€ข 7: Prosperity, potential romantic interference

โ€ข 6: Business success

โ€ข 5: Help from a friend/partner

โ€ข 4: Bad change of fortune

โ€ข 3: Good partnership

โ€ข 2: Disappointment and opposition

Diamonds

โ€ข Ace: Money, a ring

โ€ข King: Fair-haired man, stubborn

โ€ข Queen: Fair-haired woman, flirty, witty

โ€ข Jack: A relative, unreliable

โ€ข 10: Journey, wealth

โ€ข 9: Financial opportunity, surprises

โ€ข 8: Declarations of love

โ€ข 7: A gift

โ€ข 6: Reconciliation

โ€ข 5: Successful meeting

โ€ข 4: Change for the better, an inheritance

โ€ข 3: Domestic/legal battles

โ€ข 2: Important love affair

Spades

โ€ข Ace: Conflict, infidelity, stress

โ€ข King: Dark-haired man, successful, ambitious

โ€ข Queen: Dark-haired woman, seductive

โ€ข Jack: Dark-haired youth, well meaning

โ€ข 10: Grief, despair, imprisonment

โ€ข 9: Bad luck, delays, quarrels

โ€ข 8: Disappointment

โ€ข 7: Possible loss of friendship

โ€ข 6: Improvements

โ€ข 5: Anxiety, setbacks, interference

โ€ข 4: Jealousy, business troubles

โ€ข 3: Bitter parting

โ€ข 2: Scandal, gossip, deceit

Note: You may choose to include the joker to represent folly, new beginnings, the Universe and to also signify the person receiving the reading.

Bonus: Using Playing Cards to Detect Baneful Magick

This technique relies on reading either red or black cards and nothing else. It can technically be used to answer any yes/no question.

Shuffle the deck and ask, "have I been hexed or cursed?" -while you are shuffling. When ready, stop shuffling and deal out five cards in a row, face down. Then one by one, left to right, turn them over. Black indicates a 'no' response, while red indicates 'yes'. You can see the degree of the curse by the presence of red cards. All black is a clear 'no' and all red is a clear 'yes'. The spread can be read as follows:

5 Black -ย 0 Red: No curse or negative energy present

4 Black - 1 Red: Blip of dark energy, natural defenses can ward it off

3 Black - 2 Red: Dark energy present, possible jinx

2 Black - 3 Red: Sufficient dark energy, possible hex, cleanse immediately

1 Black - 4 Red: Significant harmful magick present, likely hex or curse. Do a purification/protection ritual

0 Black - 5 Red: Curse confirmed, take serious action to uncross/cleanse/protect. Someone has intentionally tried to harm you with magick.

i used to have such an incredible grimoire when i was in my teens but threw it out when my mum made me feel stupid for practicing my craft, in a way i think i grieve its loss. it was invaluable to me and would be so useful all these years later. a powerful lesson was learned through the experience though - to never let anyone else influence my beliefs or my practice again.

Psa that your witchcraft is tailor made to you. You can obviously adopt practices from others that you like, but your craft is your own. It can be as messy or as organized as you need/want. It can be inconsistent as fuck, or scheduled. Never feel bad for the way you practice. Witchcraft is meant to be tailored to each individual

โ˜€๏ธDeitiesโ˜€๏ธ

I see so many people criticizing others over their relationships, or lack thereof, with their deities, so here are some reminders:

Not having deities is okay.

Having just a devotional relationship with your deities is okay.

Having a working relationship with your deities is okay.

Playing games with your deities is okay.

Harmless jokes with your deities are okay.

Doing fun things with your deities is okay.

Doing devotional offerings for your deities is okay.

Giving physical offerings to your deities is okay.

Not being able to do certain offerings for deities is okay.

Having an altar for your deities is okay, no matter the size.

Not having an altar for your deities is okay.

Laughing with your deities is okay.

Crying with your deities is okay.

Having genuine conversations with your deities is okay.

Being unable to hear/see deities is okay.

Being able to hear/see deities is okay.

Not being able to communicate through divination is okay.

Using divination as a key element in communication is okay.

Not calling on deities during spellwork is okay.

Asking deities to help during spellwork is okay.

Asking deities for help in general is okay.

This is your relationship with your deities in your practice. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. ๐Ÿซถ

It's 2am, please forgive me if there are any mistakes!

To the Gods lost to time

We may have no way of knowing your name, but we do know you. We know you existed.

We may have no way of knowing what purpose you served in your pantheon, but we appreciate the work that you did, and the work you continue to do.

You may be older than what we think of as the first civilizations, you may be older than evolution, but thank you for being with our ancestors.

Thank you for holding their hands, teaching them how to hunt, which plants were edible, how to walk, how to develop.

It's because of you that humanity exists in the way we know today.

I'm sorry you've been lost to time.

"SAH-WEN"??? (Samhain)

It's that time of year again! It's October, the leaves are turning colors, the pumpkin spice craze is back. Yes, Samhain!

"SAH-WEN"??? (Samhain)

So first... yes it's pronounced Sah-wen, but I can't help but say it in my head as Sam-hayne, sue me.

What is Samhain?

Samhain is one of four ancient Fire Festivals that many witches, druids, and pagans alike celebrate. Samhain is on October 31st and November 1st in between the fall equinox and the winter solstice. It marks the end of harvest season and the beginning of winter. This is also the ancient Celts' New Year day. It is also a time to celebrate the dead or ancestors. They believed that the veil between worlds was thinnest on this day.

Where Did Samhain Originate?

Ancient Celts were the folks who are first recorded to celebrate Samhain, hence it's name being an old Gaelic name. However, Celtic revivalists and other pagans have helped the holiday gain more popularity over the years.

What are Some Samhain Traditions?

The oldest traditions of Samhain involve putting out the hearth's fire in their homes, harvesting crops, and lighting a community bonfire. They did this by using a wheel that which would then cause friction and spark a fire. This wheel represented the sun and was used along with prayers. They would offer sacrifices of cattle and when the festival was over, take a flame form the community fire home with them to relight their own hearth.

More modern tradition include:

Bonfires

Creating Alters for the dead or for associated deities

Creating Feasts

Making Pastries

Communing with Spirits

and more!

Can I Celebrate Samhain?

Despite what some people (though very few) will tell you, anyone of any origin can celebrate Samhain! Just be sure to educate yourself and don't disrespect the ancient tradition or deities involved in this sacred holiday.

"SAH-WEN"??? (Samhain)

Associations:

(These are not Traditional associations, they are modern pagan associations)

Revision!!! : Cailleach, the divine hag (literally means old woman or hag) and goddess of winter is very important during this time since she is in charge of the weather from Samhain to Beltane. I encourage you to look deeper into her as she is very interesting! You can read more about her here and I will make a whole post about her eventually!

Deities: The Morrigan is one of the main deities associated with this day, however, over the years as paganism has become a melting pot of pantheons, people have also considered other gods to be associated with the holiday such as: Pomona, Cernunnos, Anubis, Odin, Osiris, and Hecate to name a few.

Colors: Red, yellow, orange, most warm colors, black

Herbs: Mugwort, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Allspice, sandalwood, and dragon's blood.

Stones and Metals: Onyx, obsidian, tiger's eye, smoky quartz, ruby, copper, brass, Jet, black stones in general, darker red stones, etc.

Of course this is a list of the most common associations. If you have an item or god that you associate with the holiday you are more than welcome to celebrate with them! I am not one to gatekeep a holiday. :)

"SAH-WEN"??? (Samhain)

Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns!
