Yet Another Modern Gendrya AU
Arya and Gendry meet in college in the Riverlands as freshman, he had to take a few years to save up, so he’s a bit older as a freshman.
Sophomore year, they get a two bedroom apartment together and wholeheartedly ignore the wildly intense sexual and romantic tension.
Junior year, Rickon is sixteen and having a ton of trouble at home getting along with Catelyn, so Arya offers for him to move in with her and Gendry and finish out high school in the Riverlands with them.
Rickon moves in with them, sharing Arya’s room with her which they’re both chill about because they get along really well and don’t care about sharing a bed as siblings.
After a few months, Gendry, in a truly entirely platonic way, is like “Hey, sharing a room with a teenage boy must suck for both of you, why don’t you move into my room with me. We’ve been friends for a while, it will be chill.”
Arya, truly and genuinely oblivious to how this would be weird at all because she knows she has feelings for Gendry but also knows he definitely does not (she’s wrong btw) and she can totally keep it together (she’s wrong btw), is like “Well, Rickon and I are totally fine, but the purpose of him coming down here was to get space, and that is pry hard with your sister in the same room and bed with you. Okay, sounds good, buddy.”
Rickon, as the wonderful Gen Z that he is and having been painfully aware of how much his sister and this guy are so obviously in love with each other and has been enjoying the hell out of them dancing around each other, at this point is finally fully breaking the 4th wall with himself, and is like “~~~bed sharing~~~”.
Eventually, bed sharing of course leads to feeling sharing and they finally bang and the rooms share a wall so when they finish, Rickon yells through the wall in the night “GET IT” to both their chagrins. When they yell back at him to leave them alone, he yells back “AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES” and then dies laughing but does go to bed since his sleep is no longer being interrupted.
Rickon eventually graduates with honors and goes on to attend one of the best universities in Westeros, and Arya is so proud when he gets the acceptance letter she openly weeps and Rickon is a sympathetic crier so he does too. It turns out Gendry’s cousin Shireen already attends that school and will be starting that year as a junior, so Gendry puts them in touch.
Rickon basically goes through the entire same thing Arya and Gendry did, and Arya takes a sick delight out of the irony the entire time while Gendry would rather no one be involved in anyone else’s relationships and mind their own goddamn businesses.
Everyone lives happily ever after obvi. This story would include intense angst over mutual pining and lots of doubt and insecurities all intercut with shots of Rickon basically looking into the camera like he’s in the office because he sees EXACTLY what’s going on and has read enough fanfiction to know EXACTLY where this is going. And he is INVESTED.

He looked at her, standing breathless in front of him, the physical embodiment of so many fantasies, as her hands reached for the bottom of her uniform top -
“Wait.” His voice came out rougher than he had expected, and he watched as surprise and (just maybe) a flicker of doubt flashed across her face. He wet his lips and his heart hammered and he tried to work up the courage to just tell her what he wanted.
“Just…” His eyes trailed over her, and she must have moved closer to him at some point because if he reached out he could touch her -
“Leave it on?” His gaze was locked on hers, and his stomach swooped as one of her eyebrows twitched, and he just hoped she wouldn’t think him some randy teenager (because he sure as all hells felt like one).
He calls Gendry Geralt?!

Her brother’s roommate who she sees pretty much every single day and who she now knows is not only extremely fit, and genuinely nice (as much as he would always try to hide it behind furrowed brows and crossed arms), and funny in the best, stupid way… he is also undoubtedly a mind-blowing lay. How was that at all fair?

Pride, Stubbornness and Wights

Despite her many complaints, lady Catelyn Stark could not dissuade her lord husband from sending their second daughter to foster in Bear Island with the Mormont girls, long known for being wild, and mayhaps even part wilding. Now that Arya has flowered, and that a visit from House Baratheon to the North has called for a feast and a ball, Arya and her foster family have been summoned to Winterfell, along with Jon, coming from the Wall with disturbing news regarding sightings of wights.
Once she gets home, Arya will meet Gendry Baratheon, highly distrustful of highborns, despite his recent change of status. She will have to figure out where she fits in her mother’s plans of marriage prospects for her daughters, her father’s commitment to the North, an unlikely friendship, and the threat of the army of the dead breaching the Wall.

“Can I have one last kiss?” + gendry/arya
His eyes are hard as he looks out at the ship. “You sure you don’t want company?”
“I’m sure.” She’s told him several times now, but she supposes he needs to hear it just one more time.
“It can get lonely out at sea.”
“How would you know?”
“I rowed from Dragonstone to King’s Landing.”
“Not quite the same thing as sailing into the Sunset Sea, is it?” she asks dryly. At the look his face, she adds in a gentler tone, “You deserve a wife who will be just that--a wife. That was never me.”
His eyes are still hard, but he nods. “Can I have one last kiss, at least?”
She rises up on her toes, brushing her lips against his. He holds her in place, deepening the kiss, but she pulls back with a sad smile. “Goodbye, Gendry.”
He leaves without a word.
She supposes it’s better that way.

loving you’s a bloodsport by @anniebibananie bodyguard au. but like - also - so much more than that. just such a beautifully written fic. everything about arya and gendry’s interactions is so spot on. characterization is amazing. the writing draws you in and you can’t stop reading til you’re done and then you’re just sad it’s over. then i would recommend anything and everything else gendrya written by annie!
A Part Of You by the legendary @gendrie or elenei on Ao3 one of the very few modern au’s i’ll actually endorse. just a masterpiece. not sure where you’ll find better characterization. (you won’t). beautiful plot. absolutely gorgeous axg interactions. on top of that @gendrie writes some of the best gendrya meta and runs just one of the best gendrya/arya blogs out there and has overall the best gendrya/arya opinions ever!
gonna make this place your home by @argyledpenguin five different yet equally and hauntingly lovely au ficlets: 1 2 3 4 5 all shorter one shots but simply beautiful. if you enjoy these (which you will), go here to find more gendrya one shots scattered between pages 3-6, there’s just something SO captivating about this author’s style of writing.

Carved From Stone by onborrowedwings on Ao3 and just because, another multi-chapter (7) fic au where arya stays with the brotherhood and encounters lady stoneheart. also just gorgeously done. you will not regret reading. their relationship is just so on point in it.
All I Ask by Awakened_Angel on Ao3 everything you never knew you needed from a fake dating fic. very ‘to all the boys i have loved before.’ beautifully done. great changes/adjustments made so the story fits axg. an absolute must read!
Ned Stark Lives! by cbstevp on ff.net and because i just couldn’t help it, this absolute gem that is FORTY FIVE chapters long and details what would have happened if Ned had lived (obviously including gendrya), just kind of a masterpiece…
