Though this is primarily a poetry (and occasionally short fiction) blog, I am also an active composer. My music is a form of wordless poetry, swelling with emotions that carry the listener through soundscapes of mystery, love, and loss. I invite you to listen as you read and hope that you find something stirring and beautiful here. Thank you for visiting. - JM Tiffany, 7.16.2024

Ok so I released a lot I the last year. A part of what I have released was a genre I created termed “Lofly”.

Lofly- A sub genre of lo-fi with the weightless feeling of the flight if a butterfly.

Sometimes I accomplish this by the vibe if the melody itself. Other times I use stutter fx, layered synths and arpeggiated chord progressions. At times I will choose a lighter style of instrumentation using flutes, synth pads, acoustic drum 🥁 kits and strings with reverb, filters, and delays.

As I was listening to my track Lofly/Cooldown I realized that the one thing that also ties these tracks together is that almost all of them were done as live sets. Check out this new Lofly collection if you have any questions moment to chill n listen. 🙏🏾

P.S. 2-Guy doesn't have lofly in the title because of a distro change but this was a part of the original set.

P.S.S. Shit this may be an ep or a mixtape on its own?!? 😂🔥🤯

Gamers! Can you hear this playing in the background of a game you play? To me it sounds like music for a video game screen where something is loading or your selecting character traits… except for the end where i had way to much fun with the bongos hahaha! I was #feelingmyself

A random amalgamation of videos. The clips are significant because all of the was shot while I was still teaching full time.

A lot of my videos were shot with comic type filters because i still didn’t feel %100 comfortable expressing my full artistic self.

I suppose #differentmoney the track that I rapped on is an extension of this expression. The transition from educator to artist and back again every day as I would commute to school in the BX but have studio sessions all over the city 🏙️.

I think thats why I left the mistake at the end of the track. Mr. Washington the music educator would have wanted as close to perfection as possible. Teach_or_Trav my inner artist creates with reckless abandon and doesnt give a f@ck wut u think !😮‍💨

SIMPLEXITY [yes i made this word up]: Simplexity for me is when art 🖼️ is executed in an individualistically complex manner but its final product is simple enough for any person to understand.

Sometimes I want my music to just hit you with a feeling no words. Other times I’m just talking my shiid cuz I know we all want to in our own ways.

But recently I’ve been trying to take a step back and reflect on what I have completed and released so far so I can decide ok where do I go from here. What do I want to achieve with each new track I make?

I am constantly asking myself questions…

Are these levels too high? Should I cut this part or that part? Can a beat have melodies and counter melodies and still go hard af? Is this too much compression? Are the dynamics building up to something? Etc.

At the end of it all though I find myself saying. Have I achieved Simplexity? Is this simple enough to digest while still expressing the little orchestrative lines I wish to include.

Its a process. It takes as long as it takes. I'm enjoying the grind tho. 💯

i was just scrolling through my notes app and found this gem and thought i would share it with whoever reads this :)

(i wrote this a couple years ago right before i went to audition for my high school’s musical lol)

i walk into the black box to look for a blue velcro lunch box, and i see a girl with light blue faded to to light pink hair sitting on one of the little bleacher things farthest from me. she looks up at me as i examine the room. i see another kid plucking the strings of a bass and another gone completely feral spinning around in a spinny chair and just going insane. his head appears to be tilted back along with his body, and he seems to be laying back in the chair. i spare a glance at the girl and she just looks at me, her eyes just slightly begging for help. i simply turn and casually (i hope) walk away, without looking back.
