Fictional content is not a victimless crime purely because, with some very minute exceptions it is simply not a crime.

It is, simply put, not actually illegal, as in not actually in violation of a written, valid law, to write about a fictional character raping another fictional character. Or murdering them. Or taking their child as a slave.

And, yes, by reality's standards those things are horrifying and illegal, but those people do not exist. Those actions do not exist. Those laws have not been violated because other than as words on a page or pixels on a screen, they do not exist.

Much in the way that fictional characters cannot harm you, or rob you, or marry you or touch you or even speak to you, they cannot commit crimes or be victims of crimes. They are not real people. They are not entities. You cannot harm them any more than they can step out of a screen or off a page and violate laws that exist in real life.

They do not need protecting because they do not exist. They are not allusions to real people or proxies for real people. Nothing that you do to or make a fictional character do has any impact on real people. Actions against fictional characters do not equate to the capability for or desire to do the same to real people.

No it isn't, because they're not real. They don't exist. They don't know what's being 'done' to them because they're fictional. They do not need your protection and your championship.

Real victims do. Real people do. They do not need you to start arguments on Tumblr about fanfiction. They need you to force change in the justice system and help increase funding for support outreach and efforts. Fictional characters do not.

fun fact for anyone confused: the only group of people that consists just of pedophiles is a group of pedophiles. not a racial group or nationality; not a sexual identity; not a fanbase, JUST pedophiles.

saying that every person in a specific group is a pedophile on the premise that you don't like them and needing a biting way to insult them is not only stupid and incorrect, it's pretty fucking dangerous-- and i don't feel like i need to explain why it's dangerous.

I did, I can, and I will continue to do so for as long as your intention is to simply spout nonsense accusations and baseless arguments that don't actually further any discussion or have any point beyond you completely ignoring the basis of a post and using it as a sounding board to claim that fanfiction is equal to actual pedophilia. Lurking on a post and commenting aggressive, petulant, false information is not something I am willing to entertain.

In regards to it 'not being very anti-censorship of me'; in the radical sense, no, it might not be. But your little whining vent is both nothing that hasn't already been said and nothing I am obligated to provide you with a space to say. I removed your comment because unlike some of the other opposing comments on the post, it had nothing of value to add.

If you have something of actual significance, consideration or value to say, or if you'd like to have an actual discussion about each of our views, the available information and evidence, and the basis of the post, then by all means. I'm here.

Otherwise, you're perfectly welcome to make your own post in order to sound off your opinion.

is it normal to feel guilty for being proship? like i know its honestly not that big of a deal but i suppose ive just been listening to antis too hard and now i feel like im broken for believing in what i believe in. they keep talking about how being an anti is normal and if i disagree then im weird. am i overreacting :sob:

Being an anti is not any more normal than being a proshipper and as a proshipper the sole reason you feel guilty is because of the pressure and harassment antis direct at you, which is their goal.

Be unapologetically proship. If they are entitled to their beliefs and are unapologetic in their misguidance, then you are entitled to the same claim to normalcy.

I want to ask about stoping the anti cycle.. I’m a people pleaser and had other proship accounts abandoned cause I let antis get into my head.. how do I know for sure this time I won’t fail again with this account and stay strong?

By simply recognising that you will never actually please those people. They do not care about you, and they never will, even if you "reform" and become "one of them."

You will also be the icky ex-proshipper in their eyes. You will always have to atone for the sins of your past. You will always be the wooden stakes upon which they light the sacrificial fire.

Nobody in the anti community can ever actually agree on what is and is not acceptable and where to draw the line. Its why the 'antiship AO3' crashed and burnt before it even took off. None of them could actually form a solid agreement on what was permissible and why.

Questions To Ask Yourself

If they're genuinely just trying to protect people, why are they using abusive tactics, harassment, confrontation and aggression?

What exactly are they hoping to accomplish by hounding you or harassing you or bullying you?

If the outcome of you deleting your blog because of them worth it? What is gained versus what is lost by allowing them to chase you away?

What are you teaching them by allowing them to bully you away?

Antis try to argue that fiction affects reality saying that representation matters, but they're contradicting themselves. Most fanfiction has some kind of representation (mostly queer) but they don't count them as actual representation, because they know it doesn't have the same reach as, say, a movie or TV series, and yet they argue that fanfic portraying something bad will have a huge impact??? I swear, they don't even think before talking

My favorite thing is when people try to argue that fiction absolutely does reflect reality but every single example they give is when reality is affecting fiction. Reality dictating what is depicted in fiction, and not the other way around.

That or when their only go-to example of fiction actually affecting reality is Jaws.
