Chapter 1: The beginning
It finally happened. The Purity of Soul (PoS) religious group has finally decided to murder us all. Luckily, some monsters and monster-humans (m-hs) were awake at the beginnings of the massacre. It's times like these that I'm thankful for Torel and Asgore allowing me to stay in their home when I come home late and exhausted. I would surely have been dead if not for them.
Asgore and Torel took action quickly as they ran from home to home of all monsters, m-hs, and humans who have been known to sympathize with us, and guided them to the closest relocation spot: the cave systems in Mt. Ebott. There, we were greeted by a cloaked figure that called themselves River Person. I will write up a chapter about them soon.
Unfortunately, due to the sudden relocation, all my notes on m-h souls, the monster masks, soul trait abilities, and other similar notes regarding the research of souls. Those notes were yet to be published, and I so foolishly kept them at home. So now I have to start over from scratch. Luckily, I still remember some of the information of the older and earlier notes. Further testing is required in order to fact check myself.
Update. River Person (R.P.) has just informed us that the PoS soul mage council has erected a magic barrier at both entrances of Mt. Ebott. They say that the only thing strong enough to break it is 7 soul mages, each one with a different soul trait.
Update. There used to be a city built under the mountain. It is now largely uninhabited. R.P. said the survivors can live there for the time being until housing can be made for those who want to live elsewhere. Plans are being made to create a capitol at the barrier, so if any refugees come through, they can be provided housing and resources until they decide to move elsewhere in the Underground.
Update. It's been a few days. I haven't started on any other chapters because I've been busy with research, experimentation, and creating my team of scientists. A vote has been put in place for leaders of the survivors. Everyone voted for Torel and Asgore. I agree. To add on to that, their wedding shall be coming up soon. Turns out Asgore was going to propose to Torel the day after the day of the massacre, but then the massacre happened and put a stop on that plan.
I will start on the second chapter after their wedding. There is so much to be done.

Chapter 3: The nature of monster masks
Proper housing has been provided, and construction on the capitol is underway. An underground lab, once belonging to the previous civilization, has been discovered and provided to me and my team.
We are picking up where I left off in research before the monster massacre: artificial souls.
I had an extraction done of my and other volunteers' soul for research [and for a later experiment of adding soul types to one's self]. During the extraction process on my soul, one of my coworkers fumbled and scarred my monster soul. I was going to get it fixed up, but then I noticed that my mask happened to have a crack in the same place as the scar on my soul. [Later on at night, when everyone else was gone, I purposefully scarred a different section of my soul]. I had my mask right next to me, and yet another crack showed up in the exact same spot.
What's interesting is that it is impossible to physically damage a m-h mask. From what I remember, m-h masks are made out of a sturdy polymer material and magic. It was undetermined what magic it was. I'm guessing the magic is monster soul magic. If that is the case, then the m-h masks are a representation of the physical state of the monster soul. To test that theory, I injured my human soul, but nothing showed up on the mask. I then got my human soul healed. I left the scar on my monster soul alone, as scientific evidence of this new discovery [plus it makes me look cool].
The only downside to the scar is that the mask translates the cracks to the monster form. Now, I have two massive cracks on my skull. I've told askers that it was due to my soul being scarred. [I neglected to mention I did part of the scarring. I also lied and said it can't be healed and that I tried].

Chapter 4: Life updates
It's been a while. Only a couple of years. There have been no new updates. Well, other than the inability to find the right combination of soul traits to create an artificial soul.
The Capitol got finished. Asgore's pregnant, and now she can't change out of her monster form. Housing around the Underground is slowly being built. I've located myself in the snow biom Asgore named Snowdin. A new science division has been created. It's the technological science department.
I've learned more about the River Person. Turns out, they created the monsters and m-hs.
[My personal research into giving myself every soul trait ability has been completed. I've had to apply in slow increments because 1.) Asgore and Torel know my pension to do things solely by myself without help, and I'd hate to disappoint my dearest friends. 2.) Every time I start applying a soul trait, I feel pained, dizzy, sometimes scattered, and dissociated. But it was worth it. The minute I combined the last soul trait, the colors fused together into a black soul. Upon testing my abilities, I noticed only certain soul trait abilities are given, and not all of it.]
[These are the abilities I gained from each soul trait: Determination -> I seem to remember resets. I already have been aware of the number of resets that have occurred in my life (about 50 so far), but now I seem to remeber the excact details of the resets that occurred. Sometimes I would relive one day, sometimes time is reset back weeks or months. I need to get my hands on a determination soul mage, to further test the reset ability. I may have been wrong about Sol (the determination soul mage of the PoS) not having the ability to reset, or it may be the other theory of mine where only the most determined in the world can reset. Bravery -> I can turn the soul orange, forcing the opponent to keep moving no matter what, because if they stop for a second, they will take damage. I can also use orange bullet attacks. Justice -> My familiar can now blast out a beam of sorts. Kindness -> I can summon two giant green spectral skeletal hands that stops attacks, magical and physical. However, it drains me any time the hands take the hit. Blocking physical attacks don't take much energy at all, but magic attacks, depending on the strength and duration, drains me greatly. Patience -> I can use blue bullet attacks, and I can momentarily freeze time. At max, I can freeze time for about 10 minutes. Integrity -> Teleportation, and I can turn the soul blue and increase gravity.]
More people are coming to the Underground, survivors of the PoS who are being scheduled for death. They will be given housing and essentials in the Ruins and Capitol until they decide to move out or not. Some children come through without their parents. Torel has opened an orphanage in the house that lies at the end of the Ruins and leads to Snowdin. He has taken it upon himself to take care of the children, either until their parents come through or someone expresses interest in adopting them.
Update: I have been spending less time on research, and more time with the Dreemurrs. More specifically, I've been helping Asgore through her pregnancy. Torel has been busy lately, with the orphanage and going to meetings and ceremonies on Asgore's behalf. Asgore popped up an idea her and Torel have talked about. She asked if I would like to become a third in their relationship. I told her I had to think about it.
I have always been a more work oriented person. I never cared to seek out a relationship of my own volition. Although I can't lie and say I haven't not thought about what it would be like if all three of us were in a relationship together. But I fear that I may neglect them for my work. But I shouldn't worry; after all, the Dreemurrs are blunt (Torel more so than Asgore) which I find helpful as I have a hard time understanding what someone means as they 'beat around the bush'.
Update: I brought up my concerns with Torel and Asgore. They reassured me that it is no different than when they had to drag me away from my studies just to eat or sleep. I...forgot about that. I also told them that, regardless, I will try to do better. With that cleared up, I accepted.
Update: I don't know why I was so worried. It is literally no different than what the three of us normally did routine wise, except two are married, I'm dating them, and Asgore is pregnant. I made sure to care for Asgore, only to then swap out with Torel from time to time. It was nice, being around them more. It felt normal. It felt nice. I still have the house in Snowdin, because I'm not quite ready to move in fully with them. I haven't had my own place, and I want to use it as much as possible. But for now, take care of my girlfriend and her pregnancy, and take care of the orphanage when it's my boyfriend's turn to take care of his wife.

Chapter 5: Chara
(Forewarning. This chapter contains some disturbing content, like different types of executions/torture and harm to children. Skip where there is a TW.)
Asgore finally gave birth; a little goat monster girl, named Asriel. She's so cute. Asgore can now come out of her monster form. This now makes sense. Monsters are made of pure magical energy, both soul and body. A developing monster needs an equivalent magical energy before being born, and a human soul would be too much for the young monster soul. Not to mention a physical body would not be able to provide the required sustenance for a magic body.
Research on artificial souls is about 90% complete. We know now that to make a human artificial soul, we extract an equal amount of the seven traits, and create a black soul from it. Monster souls are trickier. We believe that, for artificial monster souls, we need to extract a tiny piece of a soul for a carapace, and 1/1000 of a fraction of each soul type to create a black soul, and dilute it in a monster magic solute. We just don't know which soul trait for the carapace is preferable, if any. And we don't know if a soul mage, m-h, or human soul is preferable. We have a couple prototypes from m-h and human souls as carapaces. They just need to be tested.
Update: It's been 13 years. During that time I realized that, as much as I love Torel and Asgore, I don't love them romantically. I told them this and broke up with them. They said they understood and respect my decision. In other news, someone very special fell into the Underground today. Their name is Chara. They are a Determination soul mage. They stayed in the orphanage with Torel for a while, but Asriel liked them so much, she wanted them as a sibling. So now Chara has been adopted by the Dreemurrs. A couple resets have occurred, but not by them. The reset keeps bringing everyone back to the moment Chara fell into the Underground before giving up after about 5 times. It seems Sol didn't like how this one got away, unlike the other survivors. [Does he think that the others can't survive the fall down here? Or does he simply not care?]
Chara explained to me what happened to them. Their father, a monster-human himself, ratted them out to the PoS council after finding out they have been caring for an elderly turtle monster in their attic. The turtle monster couldn't move all that well, and the time it could take to get them to safety, they would have been caught. Chara's father found the monster in their attic while Chara went out for groceries, and he turned them both in. We have already been told by survivors that they were scheduled for death before making the jump in the hole to the Ruins, but most of them remained silent about the specifics. Chara told me, with great hatred, about what the cult does.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~TW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Those who have been scheduled for death, are paraded to the top of Mount Ebott, given an account of their sins, and then killed. It can be either swift, or torturous. The most common occurrence are beheadings, though some other favorites of theirs are lynching, hanging, near fatal stabs/dismemberment, and tearing the soul apart. But they are not opposed to other methods. Monsters are killed first, then the human sympathizers, then monster-humans. Soul mages are spared from this death sentence, but marked as a traitor. Monster-Human children are not exempt from this execution. If a m-h child is outed to the council on their 5th birthday, they are "purified", a ceremony in which they give the child an aroma drink filled with poison, and a party is held. The poison kicks in hours later, making the child lethargic and forcing them into a permanent sleep. If the parent(s) decide to hide this information, and the child is found out any other way, they are executed in front of the parent(s). The parent(s) are held in a cellar for several days, before they too are executed.
Everyone from the village are forced to attend the execution, and sometimes they are allowed to participate in the execution. Those that can't be there, members can stay home, but have to watch the execution from the TV. And they make sure everyone from the village watches. They have archival footage for the worship building to play during sermons. They take head counts of people who were there. And they have secret cameras in the TVs that Chara's father can activate and watch if those at home are watching the event.
Chara was brought up to the hole, with the turtle monster being dragged up by their feet. The monster was held down while some members took knives and hacked and sliced the body until they turned to dust. Chara grabbed one of the knives and faught back, trying the protect the monster, but the deed had been done. They gave a final 'fuck you' to the PoS before jumping down the hole to escape.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~TW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Underground Ruins entrance became the quick mass graveyard dumping for the dead. And it's not like the victims can easily run away. Newcomers are welcomed and celebrated, with parties that last for a few days. They aren't shown or told of the horrors immediately. Their punishments are met with certain restrictions before harsher punishment is implemented. And lastly, if they do think about moving away, rumors and false allegations are spread about the people, until they are executed for 'possibly being/sympathizing monsters/m-hs'.
I was appalled by this, and went to confirm it immediately with Torel. When I asked him about it, he broke down, stating the least he could do was cremate the bodies, since there isn't really any space for a burial. He knew that neither Asgore, nor I would take the news well, so he kept silent. It was also the reason for him staying in the Ruins for longer and longer periods of time. I dragged Torel -having Chara and Asriel babysit the orphans for a little bit- to Asgore and told her the situation up on the surface. While my reaction was icy cold and silent seething, Asgore's reaction was like someone had lit an entire inferno ablaze. Didn't help that Asgore was in her monster form, so fire quite literally went flying and ignited most of the furniture. It took a little to quell the fire in the room and in Asgore's soul, but once we did, we both me and Asgore reassured Tori that we aren't mad at him, and we all sat in each other's company until the day's end.
Update: Chara asked to talk to me today. I wasn't busy today, so I obliged. We chatted about many different things, from life Underground to favorite flowers to flower meaning, etc. They caught me off guard by asking if I remember the resets. At first I thought they somehow knew of my black soul, but then I remembered that Perseverance souls can remember how many resets occurred anyways. I told them that I remember the amount of resets that have occurred, but not the specifics. They seemed disappointed, and I could tell that they are on to me -I don't think I'm as good as I previously thought at pretending not to remember the full reset- but they moved on to another subject.
They told me about a young child that they had been babysitting before falling down here. The family recently moved to Ebott city for new financial opportunities, but was pulled into the village due to how welcoming everyone was and how cheap the housing was. Both the parents had full time jobs within the city, and they needed a babysitter for their child, Sanse.
The child, though quite young, (4 I believe they said) is extremely bright, already trying to learn simple math and science. Chara mentioned that the two of them had a running joke of Chara being the 'demon that comes when you call their name', because one, the villagers called Chara a demon for vocalizing their support of monsters and m-hs, and two, because any time the child called for/wanted Chara, they always seemed to be there. Sanse also has an acute sense of moral right and wrong, stating that they question why the PoS counselors say that monsters and m-hs are impure. Chara says that they believe Sanse to have some sort of Justice soul.
Chara helped teach the child to be respectable of others, and that the PoS are not good people. They also warned the parents about the dangers of the PoS, showing them archival footage of past executions, and showing them how to disable the hidden TV camera temporarily. In fact, Chara had been hard at work seeking out new families that recently moved in and warn them of the dangers of the PoS and showing them execution footage, imploring that they leave. They would. For four years, before Chara's fall, there hasn't been an execution, because they would scared newcomers away, and oldcomers had wizened up and kept a tight lock on their children being an m-h. However, this new family didn't have many options, since they weren't doing the best money wise. Chara then promised to help them any way they could.
Sanse's family had just had a baby, so they were exempt from going to the execution, much to Chara's delight. However, they still had to watch from the tv, and Chara was hoping to never introduce Sanse to this cruel reality. They, through code, promised Sanse that they would find their way back to them. They are worried about the child's fate, because they were just a few months away from being 5 years old, the age when a monster-human received their monster mask.
Chara said that they wanted to help everyone get out as soon as possible, and taken to the inner city for protection. They want to take down the PoS once and for all. They confided in me that, if I need them, or more accurately their soul, for testing, I was free to do so. I told them not until they are much older. I won't experiment on a child.
Update: Asgore made a public announcement to everyone in the Underground. The PoS has banned the village from celebrating Halloween because it "allows the impure monster-humans to hide easier". As a act of rebellion against the PoS, Asgore declared whomever wanted to wears Halloween costumes or autumn colored outfits.
Asgore also declared a name change to the different biomes. The Ruins remain the Ruins, but it now can be called the 'Haunted Ruins'. Snowdin became Fallin, and Snowdin town became known as Halloween Towne. Waterfall was changed to Phantom Falls. Hotland was changed to Underworld, and the Core was changed to Tartarus. Lastly, the Capitol became The Hollow. The magic within the Underground changed the surrounding to match their new names. The Haunted Ruins hasn't changed at all. Fallin and Halloween Towne lost the majority of its snow covered paths in favor of autumn leaved trees with constantly falling leaves. Phantom Falls grew echo pumpkins, and the majority of the colors turned into a vibrant purple with cyan highlights and tiny cyan flames meant to represent Will-o-Wisps. Underworld seems to have gained a bit of a grunge look to it, same with the Tartarus. The Hollow also hasn't changed other than notoriously looking empty the majority of the time and having an eerie stillness to it.

Chapter 6: Flowey and the monster mask
It's been about a year now. It seems that while we've been making small leaps forward with our own research, the PoS has been experimenting with ways to kill us off down here.
Chara came running down to the lab with a sentient flower. They said it was Asriel and that she needs a soul replacement now. I quickly had my team gather, and Chara forced me to use bit of their soul if needed. We took the little bit of Chara's soul in Asriel and formed it into a carapace. As this took place, Chara kept explaining everything: the package that came from the PoS, how they made it look like a m-h monster mask package, the cursed mask, and how Asriel unwillingly transformed and her soul shattered. Chara only thought about keeping their sister alive, and so tore a piece of their soul out and gave it Asriel.
Things were going well. We set Chara up on an examination table to check on their soul, to make sure the tear isn't anything to worry about. I also explained that I may need a little more of their determination for the artificial soul.
I had just finished shaping Asriel's new carapace with Chara's determination, when I heard a shrill scream. I turned around, and a couple of the human scientists have begun attacking everyone.
Monsters dusted after only a couple of hits. With quick thinking, I put my mask on and summoned my spectral shield hands, one for myself and Asriel, and one for the remaining survivors. None of the assailants were attacking Chara, so I didn't worry too much about them. I gave enough time for the monster-humans to gather their wits and retaliate. I, too, retaliated with various attacks. However, diverting my attention weakened my shielding. The two humans took notice of me and began attacking my shield containing me and Asriel. The strain was excruciating. One of them had to be a soul mage. And I was right. While using my telekinesis to fling a mug at one of the attackers, colored contacts came out, and I saw bright yellow eyes. They screamed at they attacked with their soul bullets; my shield started to crack. I kept the two's attention on me as I moved the shield with my team in it to out of the door. I used the last of my energy to lock the door and jam it so no one could get in. I knew of a secret way out. I resummoned the second spectral hand to form around Chara, who I noticed was struggling out of their binds.
Everything became fuzzy after that. I was mildly aware of being tired. I was in pain. My soul was straining. I'm pretty sure I black out at some point. I heard screaming. One I think was my own as my magic finally failed me and I could no longer take the pain. The others were all foreign. I then felt heat; it was a searing heat. I heard a loud boom. Then I felt cold. But then I felt warm again. I then heard crying. In my delirium, I thought I may have died. But soon I came to.
I was in a hospital bed. A monster nurse was wrapping my arms and healing my soul. My mask laid on the table beside my bed.
I looked past the nurse and saw Chara lying on the other side of the medical curtain. Asriel was crying on the bedside table beside them. I didn't understand why, until I saw the container with a shattered red soul. I don't remember this, but when I came back to lucidity, a doctor had come in saying that I was screaming and thrashing around trying to get to Chara.
Torel and Asgore came to see me. We didn't talk for a while. They seem disappointed in me. I mean, why wouldn't they? I failed to keep their children alive. One is dead, and one is stuck as a flower because I failed.
As soon as I was released from the hospital, I went to the lab to see the damage. Asriel filled me in on what happened in my delirium. I kept trying to shield the three of us. Once the spectral hands shattered, though, I used the last of my magic to send a bone attack at the two attackers. One of them died instantly, and their soul [Asriel said it looked like hers] shattered. The Soul Mage shot at me and Asriel, but Chara got in the way, taking the damage. They dragged me and Asriel to the secret exit before collapsing. The Soul Mage destroyed everything: shooting at all the electronic equipment and setting a fire on all the paperwork before they too succumbed to their wounds and died. We three were later found by an emergency rescue service and taken to the hospital. I apparently was on the cusp of falling down, a comatose like state, more common of an occurrence for monsters/those with monster souls that is almost impossible to wake from. I was resuscitated before that could happen. Chara's soul was encapsulated in a clear container. Asriel had a talk with her parents. She was worried they might be mad at her for not thinking, for accepting a shady gift, but they only showed empathy and warmth, happy she was alive. Why wouldn't they? They plan on burying Chara's body in Their and Asriel's garden at the entrance of the Ruins. Torel will also move out permanently to the Haunted Ruins so as to prevent any more incidents from happening.
The laboratory was a mess. I salvaged what I could, which was hardly anything. I will have to rewrite all the notes. [I will also encode the more secretive and important notes in Wing Dings, something I've already been doing in this journal.] I found the soul mage's soul. [I also found the pieces of the regular human's soul. It didn't have any fullness to it. It had just determination where the carapace would be. It's just like Asriel said. I will have to see what makes the two similar. I will take both of these souls home with me where I have a mini lab set up in the back for emergency use. I already have Chara's soul pieces there. The medical staff have no need for shattered soul pieces, so they gave it to the Dreemurrs to decide. I mentioned Chara's request at using their soul for future experiments. I couldn't look them in the eyes. Asgore gave me the container saying that they trusted me to put their soul to good use.] I didn't find the human's soul.
Update: I have been running some very small tests with Asriel. We've tested if Asriel has kept any of her old abilities or if she's gained any. She has lost all of her previous magic abilities but has gained new flower based attacks. [I also ran some tests to compare her soul and the human's. She exclaimed that she didn't feel as emotionally attached to people like she used to. She first felt this numbness when she saw her parents weeping for her, but she thought it may have been due to shock from the past 24 hours. But even when she talked to old friends, she didn't feel as strongly as she once did for anyone. She also states that she feels angrier and more bitter about what happened. Results, inconclusive. Needs more subjects.]
Update: There have been more frequent resets as of late. So far, they've all reset to the same day. There was a reset going a day back to this particular day, an unremarkable day on my end, but then several resets occurred an hour later, then mere seconds. About 10 resets occurred within this short time frame. All reset to about midday on that unremarkable day. I don't know what exactly this could mean, but I do know one thing: someone new has access to the reset.
Update: While waiting for a new lab to be built, I have taken up teaching science on many different grade levels at the Underebott K-12 school. But that's not the reason for this entry. While taking a break, I happen to spot Asriel talking to some of the children on the playground. When the children were called back inside for class, they said quote "Bye-bye Flowey." Why is Asriel using the name Flowey, especially after a month after the incident has occurred? What changed? I approach Asriel with these questions. While Asriel was dismissive about it, saying that they were trying something, the moment they left, a reset occurred, stopping at a couple minutes before I had my break. As soon as I dismissed my class, I made a beeline for the playground to find the little flower. Unfortunately, she disappeared the moment we locked eyes. The next week, I spent most of my non-working time trying to find Asriel.
Update: I confront Asriel. It took a while and a couple of small resets, but I finally managed something. I asked again why Asriel decided to start calling themself Flowey now out of any other time, and if she has access to the resets. [It was at that moment, as well as Asriel screaming, that I realized I was using magic, more specifically telekinesis, on Asriel, and had lifted her up in the air, derooting her. I set her down and left.] She refused to give me any information and asked to be left alone. I will let her come to me to talk whenever she wants. I can be patient.

Chapter 7: Determination and Empty Souls
(Trigger warning for an attempted suicide. Please be mindful of your mental health and tread carefully. I couldn't find a clean split between the trigger warning markers. If you find yourself being triggered at any point, skip to the end of the marker.)
I went to Gerson, an elderly tortoise justice m-h. I inquired about anyone with a determination carapace soul and nothing else. He said he's seen some, mostly from his time on the surface. All of them belonged to humans who were all angry, often picked fights, or blow up at the smallest inconvenience. Some were apathetic to the point that they could trick themselves into being fine. These people were also the type of people to be in terrible situations.
I think I now have a working hypothesis: people with these souls have lost all hope. They have forgotten patience, kindness, justice, integrity, bravery, and even somehow perseverance. All they have left is determination for their set goal and the lingering feelings of bitterness, resentment, and apathy. I think Empty souls is an apt name.
Asr Flowey visited me at my home today, after 6 months after the incident. She was ready to talk. First, she had me admit why I have a black soul. I told her everything I could. She asked if I could see Chara's spirit. I couldn't and stated as much. That was when Flowey unloaded everything they've held close to themself.
TW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Asriel thought she was in shock. After Chara collapsed in the secret passage and me out of commission as well, Asriel focused on solidifying pur protection. When Chara didn't wake and their soul was encapsulated, Asriel described only feeling empty and numb, despite the plentiful amount of tears that flowed. Even after she was cleared from the hospital, she felt numb. She probably was in shock, for a vast majority of it. But even when she was taken back to the castle, she felt nothing. When both her parents loved on her, mourned for what happened, when they both got so unbelievably angry at what the cult had taken, Asriel felt nothing but empty. Even when they went to bury Chara, Asriel couldn't find it in her to grieve. She felt undeserving of this second chance at life, while Chara was dead. She tried to put her second chance to good use: letting me expirament with her, remind her parents what they still have, entertain the orphans, etc. But each day became more and more of a struggle. Each day, Asriel couldn't find a reason to keep going. Despite everyone around her, she felt alone. It got to the point where she attempted to take her own life. She traveled to an empty section of Underworld and gaze at the Molten Lava bellow. She sat there for hours before detaching her roots and plummeting down the cliff face.
TW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In those seconds of falling into the magical, molten lava, Flowey felt something pull at her soul. It was, as she described, something not entirely hers but familiar all the same. At that moment, she no longer wanted to die. She wanted to live. She screamed that burning desire that only intensified. Her vision became filled with a blinding, golden light. The next thing she knew, she was at the top of the cliff face staring down at the lava below.
She described feeling confused. She heard a familiar voice screaming something about resets, then she saw Chara, or their spirit at least. They sat there, talking, like nothing ever happened. Then came the topic of what happened: Flowey can reset. Flowey has become more determined than Sol. Flowey figured that she could possibly undo the incident. She brought up the reset button and hit reset, but again, Flowey found herself staring down the cliff. They tried again and again, and again, and again, but no matter how many times she reset, she'd always come back to staring down at the lava below. After about 10 times Flowey gave up. She decided to try and move forward with her life as someone new. So she and Chara came up with the name of Flowey, something friendly and unassuming, and Flowey went around to those close to Asriel and Chara to start anew. Flowey left a final goodbye note to Asgore and Torel. She didn't disclose what she wrote specifically. [I asked if I could experiment with her on the resets. I said we will have to have a full notification for all determination m-hs on the experiment we would be conducting however Flowey would remain anonymous. I also told her that this experiment would be beneficial for the both of us. She agreed after minutes later.]
Update. I requested a machine to be made by the technology science department that can data lock an item so it is not affected by resets. I'm tired of having to rewrite the same thing over and over again. [Plus with this next experiment, I don't know how far back we will reset for.] The new lab has been finished for a while and humans are temporarily banned from joining any of the science divisions. The Technological science department outdid themselves because not only did they create a capsule that can keep any item inside unchanged by resets, but also the machine itself should be unhindered by resets, even if we were to reset to a time before the machine was created.
[Update. I had told Asgore about the experiment and requested that she make an announcement to the whole Underground about reset experimentation occurring during this time, and that Determination m-hs take it easy and seek mental health if things get rough. We are set to start resets tomorrow.]
Update. Flowey Reset back 1 day
Update. Flowey Reset back 1 week
Update. Flowey Reset back 1 month
Update. Flowey tried to reset back a year, but it set us back on the unremarkable day for me, and tragic reminder for Flowey. I have a bit of a working theory on why Flowey can't reset farther right now. That day, at that specific time, for Flowey, was the date Flowey made a very important life altering choice. And the potential consequences were undone, like it never happened. I believe we just figured out a potential weak spot of the 'over powered' reset. Resetting is still powerful, but the person that reset can't go back further than the last major life decision they made. I'm thinking of calling this phenomena 'key events'. We still need to figure out what exactly makes up a key event. I now want to know why Sol's key events stop at the exact point a victim falls into the Underground and not right before. Hopefully answering the former question helps lead to the answer for the second question.
Update. I looked back at my previous notes. I can't believed I didn't comprehend that Flowey could see Chara. Or their spirit at least. Based on what is presented in front of me, Flowey can see Chara due to having a piece of their soul as her own. I won't know for sure unless I do more experiments on this matter.

Chapter 8: The Skeleton Siblings
(TW for description of dead bodies, bullying, drugs, parental abuse to children, and neglect)
A couple of days ago, two children fell down here. Torel heard one screaming for help and rushed to their aid. Unlike most others that have fallen down previously, they sustained no damage. Not even a small bruise. Torel had called both me and Asgore, urging us to come down to the Haunted Ruins. Asgore met up with me at the new lab [that was built on top of the ruins of the old one] and we both quickly made our way to the Haunted Ruins.
Torel was waiting at the door to let us in. He then asked to talk to me first to help him process what he saw. What he describes next unnerved me to my core.
TW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Multiple lacerations along the arms and legs of the male figure. Two large stab wounds: one in the stomach, the other closer up to the chest with a slight vertical up slice. The woman also looked to have been stabbed in the chest. Her head was semi-cleanly sliced off, meaning near the end the skin and muscle from the head tore off.
TW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He has never described what any of the previous bodies looked like before, but he said that these two recent kills were far more tame than some of the previous kills in the past. He said that the most horrifying thing about this situation is that the two kids, presumably the children of the two adults, saw what happened. Correction, only the eldest child saw, as they kept the younger close to their chest to prevent them from seeing anything as they were falling. I could tell that Torel was struggling to keep himself from breaking down, so I had Asgore comfort her husband while I went to talk to the newest residence.
I should have expected as much. The eldest child's name is Sanse, the one Chara babysat and the one they were worried about. Their sister's name is Papina. I checked both of their souls for injuries. [which proved to be difficult. Sanse seems highly weary of me and refused multiple times when I asked. It was thanks to Papina that Sanse reluctantly agreed.] Neither had sustained any injury. I made sure to update Torel of such when he was feeling better. Asgore said she would make more frequent visits to keep Torel company, until he feels more stable from his emotional turmoil. I bade them and the children farewell before heading home.
Update. Torel is trying to get me to adopt. He keeps coming up with excuses like how all our monster forms are skeletons, that I'd be able to relate to them better, that he just has a hunch that we'd fit well, that having something to take care of would help me not be so work minded and help me take care of myself better. There are several problems with each of those. One, it doesn't matter if our monster forms are the same or not. Two, If I neglect myself due to work, then I don't want any kid to suffer the same way. I have no comment on the other two. I don't have to. And I won't.
Update. Torel keeps pestering me on adopting those two children. I failed at protecting his, so why does he think I can protect them?
Update. I have decided to adopt the two children. Maybe having something at home to return to will force me to not spend so much time at work. [Torel told me that these two children are special. He said they were born from a soul mage parent. This could lead to a scientific breakthrough. Soul mages are commonly sterile due to neither monster, human, or m-h being able to handle the vast magical energy. There has never, in recorded history, been anyone born of a soul mage parent. The closer I can be to them, the better I can observe them in a non laboratory setting.] Also, they may just liven things up at home.
Update. This was a bad idea. Papina is fine. She's a sweet girl, and a massive ball of energy. She was worth adopting. Sanse is a different story. They are always making snide comments; they refuse to listen to what I'm saying; it seems that they are trying to irk me. I am trying many disciplinary actions, but none of them seem to be effective.
i know what you're planning.
no matter where you hide this journal, i will find it.
under the floorboards? really? try harder next time.
c'mon g. do you really not like someone prying into your personal life that much? funny. i feel the exact same way with you.
Update. What do you want Sanse?
the truth.
Why not just tell me then? Communication is key to a healthy relationship.
then why don't you tell people about the harmful experiment on yourself?
That's different.
you refused to talk to me. you expected obedience from the word go just because you adopted us. i can tell when someone has ulterior motives. the way you looked at me and paps as you adopted us was different from when you looked at us the first time. i just want you to tell me face to face that you are hiding something. do that, and i leave your journal alone.
Update. Papina is a wonderful listener; she's very insightful. I have been getting really mad at Sanse for touching my journal, this journal. No matter where I hid it, Sanse found it. I got so mad that I started ranting about it to Paps. For a six-year-old, she analyzed the situation maturely and told me point blank that I was the one being childish. Sanse was only acting out because they didn't feel properly heard. They did have to go through four years of hiding and observing. They didn't feel like they could trust anyone, so they guard things close to their chest. And if they figure out, and they will figure out, if someone is trying to get close to them only to further something that they aren't telling, then Sanse will push them away or force the truth out.
That's why I wrote back to Sanse. And now, I've told them why they were adopted. I listed off my reasonings for not wanting to adopt them before. Then I told them the uniqueness of their situation, that they technically shouldn't exist. I wanted to know what an m-h born from a soul mage is capable of, and what could this mean for future experiments. After that, Sanse broke down crying. They said they were tired of being special. They just want to be normal. I sat there, holding on to Sanse, trying to comfort them. [Sanse, when you read this, and I know you will, I'm sorry for causing you such heartache. If there is anything I can do to make it up to you, even if it's giving you and Paps to better parents, just tell me. I understand.]
Mini update. I had just taken Sanse and Papina out on a walk. I took them to Echo Falls and we let ourselves get lost. I told them something special about the echo pumpkins, something I had just recently been made aware of. You can whisper your darkest secret, fear, etc. and it'll keep that secret for all eternity. You can have it replay back by saying their password, as it only follows the command of the secret owner's voice and the password that has been set. The secret is only connected to that echo pumpkin, and it magically keeps echo flowers from picking up on the sentence that is said. We found three pumpkins sitting next to each other and took turns telling a pumpkin what we don't want anyone else to hear but need to get off our chest. I can't say mine here, as Sanse is liable to see it. And I plan on teaching them Wingdings as part of their coursework. We got nice cream afterwards before heading home.
Update. I know Chara said that Sanse was smart, but I think genius may be more accurate. They are advancing quickly through their studies. They are able to write in Wingdings perfectly, they can speak fluently in Spanish, and speak almost near perfect Mandarin. They are also quickly moving up in difficulty with math and science. Papina is just as smart as her sibling, but in a more clever way. She is constantly coming up with solutions to problems that I would never have though about. She's a wonderful outside the box thinker. Papina also has a near perfect memory. She excels in History and English. As for the arts, Papina is more into acting, singing, and dancing, while Sanse is more into the hands on, like paining and sculpting.
update. wingate is asleep. i may be guilty for tiring her out emotionally. when you see this, i'm sorry. context: i asked her about her family. one of the things i read was that she wasn't going to answer two of torel's reasons for adopting me and paps. i had asked torel before why he though gaster would make a good mother and he said he had a hunch. apparently, when he gets a hunch, it usually turns out correct. so that only leaves one question unanswered: how could she relate to what me and paps have gone through? i tried asking that question, but she kept avoiding me. i managed to corner her though, and she finally told me what happened with her.
TW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
her parents were also torn away from her at a young age. her mom died giving birth to her. she was the youngest child out of two older brothers, and the only monster-human out of an all human family household. she was smarted than them, and would become more successful than them. her father was arrested for illegal drug usage, neglect, and abuse to his children. the two boys would compete for love and attention, but gaster never did. they were put in the foster system. her brothers would pick on her, destroy her things, and bully her because she was different. one brother was a brainless jock who was barely even good at sports. the other hung around gangs. her foster parents took her in and called her special. like me she never wanted to be special and often wished to be normal.
TW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
she started crying heavily after that and i put her to bed. i'm sorry, gaster, that you went through all that. but hey, you persevered. you're fine, mostly. love you. sanse.
Thank you, Sanse.
Update. I've been taking Sanse to my workplace, while Papina is being babysat by Asgore and Flowey. Sanse is very curious and asks a lot of questions, questions that I am happy to provide answers for. They have also been on their best behavior: not touching anything, not wondering off, etc. As a side note, I promised to never use their parents' souls for testing, so they just sit in a clear canister on their dresser beside the erns in their shared room.
They said they wouldn't mind running some tests so we can have a better understanding of a m-h born of a soul mage's capabilities. They are used to testing, as their parents wanted to better understand their children, and let them better understand themselves as well, and had testing done to them. At some point in the future, we just might. I also ask Papina if she would be willing to do the same. She agreed enthusiastically, as she usually does with requests. She then rambled about her day with Asgore and her new best friend, Flowey.

Chapter 9: Testing
Today is Sanse's test day. I'll be taking this journal in to write down my findings and documentation. I don't want to leave any documentation as important as this at the lab.
[I can't trust anyone there to not seek to destroy this information. We don't have any human collaborators, but there may still be a possibility of a m-h traitor.]
All the information gathered will be stored in this journal and digitally gathered onto a flash drive that will be locked in a secure vault that only I have access to.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Subject name: Sanse Cortez Gaster
HP (Human form): 20; HP (Monster form): 8, lowest recorded hp for a monster.
EXP: 0; LV: 0; ATK: 1; DEF: 1
Soul traits: Justice, Patience
Patience is the leading soul virtue, followed closely by Justice.
Non soul trait related abilities:
Bone bullet attacks.
Patience abilities:
Time freeze. The duration depends on current energy and magic levels, and how many people are chosen to be unaffected. At full strength and with me, Sanse is able to stop time for approximately 15 minutes. The time stops acts like a spotlight. Everything that is within darkness is frozen in time; everyone not under the time freeze are surrounded by a spotlight. The most amount of people Sanse can keep unaffected by their time freeze is 15 people. Anymore than that and Sanse's soul starts to suffer.
Cyan bone attacks. As long as the opponent stays still, they take no damage.
Soul freeze. This is a soul mage ability. Sanse turns the soul cyan, which freezes the body in place. Sanse can also freeze objects where they are, even being able to stop the object from it's current inertia. Sanse can choose who and what they freeze in place. Sanse can also freeze people in place without affecting the soul, so integrity soul mages would still be affected by this ability. [There was an attack today. 25 empty souled humans, that have been documented as having fallen from the surface, stormed the lab. Once they got close, Sanse froze 20 of the attackers in place without much effort.]
Justice abilities:
Soul bullets. Sanse can summon 5 bead-like orbs that float behind them. They can then fire them at whatever and whomever they choose. They can combine all five orbs to create one big orb that shoots out a continuous beam of energy.
KARMA. We had six scientists to test this. Sanse summoned a regular bone attack. Three of the scientists had no LV; the other three had varying levels of LV: 2,5, and 8. The three no LV scientists only took damage proportional to the bone attack itself, while all the LVed scientists took additional damage proportionate to their LOVE.
Judgement. Sanse can see into other people's souls and read their LV and soul type. [They can also determine if the person is a soul mage or human without having to see their eyes, their EXP gain, their abilities, and how many times a person has reset or used rewrite on an individual level. This is a touch more than what has been documented. Research and testing of previous patience reveals that this is unique to Sanse.] Sanse can also perform the check action when not in battle.
Soul lock. Soul mage ability. [The other 5 started attacking other scientists. 1 of the 5 went after Sanse to try to break their concentration on the freeze. Sanse was a spry one. They were using effects simultaneously. As they held the 20 in place, they were blipping around the lab as they used their time freeze. I was too distracted by Sanse's display of ability that I didn't notice an empty souled individual sneak up behind me and try to take my life. Sanse, who was on the complete opposite end of the room, and with several people interposed between us, used Soul lock and shot the bastard down. LV increase to 2. Monster HP up to 150, human HP up to 24, ATK and DEF increase to 2.]
Notes: The soul mage parent of the child was the late mother. We now know that monster-human children born from a soul mage birth giver have a possibility to gain the soul mage abilities. It is unknown if the same is true with human or soul mage children, and with a soul mage sperm giver. It is also unknown if it is guaranteed that the children receive soul mage abilities, or if there is a certain percentage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Update. Next day. Papina is being takin in for testing. I tried to have Sanse stay with Asgore, but they refused adamantly and wished to go with Papina, for if anything goes wrong. [And by wrong, they most likely meant the attack yesterday. They are still shaken by the events. I don't blame them for wanting to protect their sister. In private, they said they panicked because they didn't want to loose any more family than they have, me included.] I relented and let them come with. We need to hire armed guards.

Subject name: Papina Cortez Gaster
HP (Human form): 20; HP (Monster form): 83,
EXP: 0; LV: 0; ATK: 0; DEF: 0
Soul traits: Integrity, Bravery
Integrity is the leading soul virtue, with a strong but smaller Bravery soul virtue. 6 months ago, the Bravery soul virtue was approximately 50 small dots in the soul. Now, the Bravery virtue, while not as prominent as the Integrity virtue, is much bigger that it used to be; it has now formed into whisps and splotches.
Non soul trait related abilities:
Bone bullet attacks
Integrity abilities:
Gravity manipulation. Papina can increase the gravitational pull in a small fifteen foot radius. Papina can also apply the magic to the soul, causing it to turn blue; only the individual whose soul was affected experiences the gravitational increase.
Flight. Lasts for approximately 30 minutes. Papina lessens the gravitational pull on herself, allowing her to become less dense than the air around her. Flight equates more to walking on air.
Soul change magic immunity. Soul mage ability. Sanse tested with Papina. Sanse turned Papina's soul cyan. Papina was able to move forward, and Sanse's magic disappeared. A control was established as Sanse afterwards turned one of the scientist's soul cyan. They reported that they could not move in the slightest. We attempted to turn Papina's soul blue, orange, and purple, but Papina was unaffected by all attempts. [In the instance of turning Papina's soul green or yellow, because those are boons rather than banes, Papina had the choice to allow her soul to change.]
Bravery abilities:
Increased strength and speed. Compared to the more athletic 6-year-olds, Papina has shown to be 5 times faster and stronger than her peers. Even compared to other bravery monster-humans, Papina is still approximately 2 times faster and stronger.
All stat increase. Soul mage ability. Sanse is Papina's opponent. [Papina said she felt uncomfortable getting into battle with people that she didn't know what they could take. Sanse offered their help. Papina became more accepting of this particular test.] Papina initiated the battle. No stat change. Papina, when requested, acted first in the battle. DEF, ATK, and SPD increased by 10. Any attempts to increase her stats more has failed. Initiating a fight will not increase stats. However being the first to act in the initiated battle will increase stats.
Notes: Like Sanse, Papina possesses soul mage abilities for both of her soul attributes. [And like Sanse, those abilities exceed what has been recorded for soul mages to actually do.]
