Simplified Summary :
When it comes to haircare, it truly does depend on each persons hair, no product is one fits all. If you like a product, and your scalp feels clean while your ends feel moisturized, continue use.
Healthy hair habits take priority over products. Keeping your scalp clean is number one, to do so depends on how often you wash. There is no right amount, it is okay to wash daily or weekly. If washing daily, use a shampoo that is lower in surfactants, aim for ones that say “okay for daily use”. If washing once a week, or twice, use one with higher surfactants (clarifying shampoo). If at any point your hair feels as if there is product buildup or the scalp is itchy use clarifying shampoo. number two is to condition frequently, you can condition before or after shampooing. It is helpful to pre-oil your hair 30 minutes prior to showering with coconut oil, coconut oil is the only oil proven to effectively enter the hair cuticle and can help protect against water damage. if you are going days without shampooing, spraying it with conditioning spray or oil on the shafts only is helpful. number three is small habits, dry your hair with a microfiber towel. keep shampoo only on the scalp and conditioner on the ends. squeeze out any excess water out prior to applying conditioner and let it sit for at least 2 minutes, longer if you can. use gentle hair ties and claw clips. put your hair in a protective style before bed. eat properly, get enough rest, and make sure you are hitting protein goals for biotin production. never brush your hair while it’s wet, and don’t over brush. use a leave in conditioner after washing, and avoid heat styling.
ingredients : shampoos and conditioners have a team of hair chemists formulating them carefully, so most haircare products are safe to use, but some are better based on added ingredients. ingredients like proteins, peptides, keratin, butters, oils, silicones, citric acid, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid can improve hair. when choosing hair products, aim for ones that have these ingredients higher on the ingredient list
despite fear of silicones and sulfates, they are recommended by dermatologists and trichologists. the only ingredient you should avoid is formaldehyde. formaldehyde has different names, so avoid at all cost anything that says formaldehyde, methylene glycol, formalin, formic aldehyde, paraform, formol, formalin (methanol-free), FYDE, formalith, methanal, methyl aldehyde, methylene oxide, tetraoxymethalene, oxomethane, and oxymethylene. these are mainly found in special treatments and heat products, legally these can be called “formaldehyde free” if using it in a different form. (the ones listed above that are not verbatim “formaldehyde”)

♥ 24 Dec 2023 - Christmas Eve! ♥
I was able to do some work on a psych module last night after i felt better!
However today, i got my period! Ugh, right before Christmas too! Decided to do some well deserved self care (hair & face mask, healthy breakfast, at home mani, and small sleep in). My hair feels sooo good now!
Doing more uni work, will probs do some tomorrow as well (yay)... although the modules i find kinda fun... I've always loved psychology and analysing people (kinda related, got really into criminal minds last month... i love the profiling)
Also been trying to find cute youtubers to help with motivation, for study and getting my shit together lol. If you have any recommendations plz share!
I've been trying to fuel my mind whilst taking breaks by watching more video essays, it's sooo good! There are many in depth, academic and educational ones on YT, but also more lighthearted comedic ones about random things.
Like i just watched a Burback video (great channel btw) about PokemonGo's release, it was so interesting! Did you know that 3 bodies were found bc of PokemonGo in the first 10 days of release?! Or that Nintendo stocks rose the highest they had ever been since the 80's because people mistakenly thought Pokemon was owned by Nintendo??
Anyways, should go back to studying now, if you've read this far, thanks so much for listening to my rambles. :) ♥

hi tumblr :)
i wanted to ask anyone knows how to fix curly hair for some help! my mama has really pretty natural curls, but she’s been straightening her hair for years now. Her curls are super pretty, but they’re really damaged since she hasn’t ever learned to properly take care of them. she says she’s tired of having to straighten her hair every day, and my sister (our hairdresser) keeps scolding her for damaging her hair so much lol.
I want to help her bring them back! but my hair is pin straight and i have no idea where to even begin. I’ve tried doing a bit of research on my own, but i worry that i’m not asking the right questions.
I believe her hair type is 3a, from what I can tell! if anyone has any advice, i’d be so grateful!! <3

Investing In Your Appearance
Like many things, there is a lot of rhetoric around appearance and beauty that is centered around “quick fixes” and “easy solutions.” Well…
“If it was easy, everyone would do it”… so clearly there is a lie miscommunication about beauty solutions
Instead of always seeking easy fixes and a lazy approach to your appearance, I would like to offer a mentality and perspective regarding upgrading your physical beauty. I normally resent any comparison of women to inanimate objects, but I find this particular metaphor clever so you’ll have to just bear with me 😘
Think of your appearance as your home. The structural components of the house are your bone structure, the raw materials of the house are your skin and other natural beauty, the furniture are the more “fluid” aspects of your appearance (eyebrows, etc.), and the extra and more temporary decorations are the equivalent of makeup.
Too much modern beauty advice is from that surface level of makeup. Companies are trying to sell you the key to beauty and appearance as make-up. Like excess house decor, it’s a cheap sell. Sure, it modifies the room from a surface level, but doesn’t really ADD or INVEST in beauty. It’s a cheap fix for a real problem. For some critical thinking: why do companies want girls to believe the secret to beauty is in makeup? Because it’s the quickest and most visible fix! You don’t need to apply a new lipstick more than once to immediately see results. Companies know they have to market short term fixes bc most girls are too impatient… the average person isn’t willing to invest time and effort into long-term results. Companies know this, which is why they want people to believe the overall key to beauty is purely makeup. They are wrong. While makeup, is important component, it’s not a true investment in yourself. Remember this throughout any level-up or investment in your appearance.
The basic structural components.
Let’s get right to the heart of beauty then, shall we? The basic structural components. My main opinion of it all, is you are born with a face meant for you - your home. You may not like the structural components of your house, but it has the capacity for beauty, even if its not the type of beauty you wish it was, or as “trendy” of a house as you want. Ultimately, your plan needs to be formulated around your basic house structure. Don’t force a modern sleek NYC loft look on a country cottage house… don’t push a “insta baddie look” on a classic Greecian beauty structure. Accept your face and work WITH your features.
If you do choose to modify your basic structural components…. do so mindfully of the entire house. If you change one side of the room entirely, it runs the risk of looking out of place, if not stupid in the context of the rest of the room. Similarly, slapping a thin nose on an otherwise bold-featured face is going to look out of place and bizarre. Just be mindful, while you can do deep structural remolding… don’t go overboard and keep any modifications with the rest of the house in mind. Oh… and if you really see a solution as to modify the entire house? Just know it has the real possibility to still look make-shift and disorganized. I always recommend sincerely trying to work with what you have.
Raw Materials
After the basic structure, you then look at the more raw materials aspect of your house. The walls, flooring, and other more difficult things to modify. A house is only well kept if you actively maintain these features. You must apply fresh paint, a regular cleaning routine, and maintenance as needed. Unfortunately, a lot of the work towards maintaining raw components is costly and can temporarily detract from your appearance. A sanding down and refinishing of the walls makes your house ugly and in-construction for a week or so… similarly, a derma-planning facial hurts and makes you look red/puffy for a week… but at the end of it all? The results are glowing and long term improvement.
Make sure you are doing that deep-level investment into your face. It will be more costly, and it will not provide immediate results. Overall, it’s imperative for the long term upkeep and investment into your beauty. Get regular facials, electrolysis on your body hair, and other investments that will give you a better foundation of beauty. Like I said… a cheap rug doesn’t cover up a grungy floor, similar to how foundation cannot hide dry and poorly taken care of skin.
Furniture and More Fluid Aspects
So it’s kind of difficult to differentiate within appearance as well as a home, the difference between more solid aspects (walls and flooring) vs more fluid components of a home (furniture). Overall, its more a matter of what can be changed faster. In terms of appearance, I see it as eyebrows, lashes, and more easy surface level things that AREN’T makeup.
Keeping yourself well groomed is important. Beyond deep facials and other more intense procedures and upkeep, you need to have a daily routine that maintains your features otherwise. Fluff up the pillow on the coach - similar to how you brush out your eyebrows. You may not deep clean your apartment floors everyday, but you should sweep them off daily - you may not deep clean your pores and skin, but you can keep them relatively clean and healthy. Everyday does not always require specialized decorations (makeup) but general presentability is still important (cleanliness and basic hygiene).
Ways to invest in the more fluid aspects of your beauty can include lip fillers, eyelash extensions, hair treatments, etc. They will create that more surface level of beauty, without being fully qualified as “makeup.”
Extra and More Temporary Decorations
Finally, makeup! Ok, so this post may overall seem like I’m against makeup, which COULD NOT BE FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH!!!! I’m really more about not being RELIANT on makeup to be beautiful, in truth, it can and SHOULD enhance your beauty!
Imagine you’re throwing a party at your house - you would want all your structural components, raw materials, and basic furniture to be all nice and presentable! It would be embarrassing to not have a well prepped location! But from there, you would still want to grab a few extra decorations to fully maximize the appearance! Maybe a vase of flowers, some streamers, a cute centerpiece - all of these are important to overall appearance! However, if you were only doing the decorations without any work towards ACTUALLY having a nice home, it would be obvious and apparent, if not detracting from the beauty of your house. Same thing with makeup - you need a good foundation (and no, not the makeup foundation, the real appearance-based foundation 😂)
Like home decorations, make up should be applied sparingly and in a way designed to specifically work with your features. Again, you wouldn’t decorate your home as if it were a apartment if it’s really a castle - don’t try to transform your face with makeup into something it’s not. Highlight your favorite parts, and find a style that works best for you AND makes you happy to look at. Have fun with makeup! It’s the exciting part and most fluid aspect of appearance, but don’t have it be the ONLY way you’re investing in your appearance!

Wrap your hair up and cover it (this could be with a shower cap or even a plastic bag). You want to leave the mask on for at least 30min depending on your hair type & how dry it is you can leave it on for 45min to 1 hour tops!
Get in the shower and wash your hair as you normally would. You can shampoo before you rinse you hair, then continue with your favorite conditioner. It will instantly feel smooth to the touch.
Style you hair as you normally would, you can leave it natural & add your regular products just don’t saturate your hair because it will leave your hair greasy.
THANK YOU TO MY COLOMBIAN MOTHER & HER ROOTS FOR THIS TIP!

Ways to Instantly Feel Sexier
Whenever I find myself looking to drastically improve my appearance, I like to consider all things possible from head to toe. SO, let’s begin…
HAIR
Regardless of your personal hair ritual, you can always add some spice to it by introducing a hair fragrance. Anointing yourself with oils and perfumes can instantly improve your mood and self-lust. You may have found that you prefer using a certain conditioner because of the fragrance and how good it makes your hair smell. Well, for those moments that you just need a little boost, create your own hair potion for stirring up your senses. Of course, you will naturally radiate an intensely attractive scent—especially around your cycle—but why not increase its potency? Oh, and if you sleep next to someone at night, be mindful of how much you use, but I promise unless they have the most sensitive nose ever, they will love your ‘natural’ aroma.
I like to use anointing oils that I prepare myself, but here are some good hair fragrances:
Dior Miss Dior Parfum Hair Mist, $57
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Parfum Fresh Hair Mist, $65
Honey Infused Hair Perfume Pocket, $44
FACE
There’s just something about a face that illuminates. Whether or not you use makeup to achieve this look, you want to be sure that you have a great moisturizer and serum that will give you a natural radiant glow. Achieving this kind of glow will not only make you feel and look more attractive, but you will feel great about nourishing your skin. You want to invest in good skincare in general. I use a polypeptide cream on days that I don’t wan to apply makeup, and the difference is incredible. My skin not only looks healthier, but it feels so smooth and soft.
Here are a few of my favorite face moisturizers and serums:
Protini™ Polypeptide Cream, $68
Treatment Softener Enriched, $50
OLEHENRIKSEN Banana Bright™ Vitamin C Serum, $65
TRULY, GLASS SKIN FACIAL SERUM, $28
My favorite hydrating face mask (I honestly have like 10 of these stocked)
DIAMOND WHITE GLOWING MASK, $97
LIPS
This is pretty simple. We all know that putting on a red lip can make you feel like one of the most powerful women alive. But, if that’s not your thing, or if it doesn’t fit the environment, perhaps invest in a great lip tint and lip gloss. Visibly healthy and hydrated lips will enhance your overall look, and will make you feel more confident as you speak.
Here is my favorite red and brown lip tint and lip gloss:
Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain, $18
Brownie Batter Lip Gloss Tube, $4
TEETH
Now be honest, do you brush your teeth as often as you should? Are you flossing?? Okay, well I know that flossing doesn’t sound sexy, but it is a necessity. You will feel considerably more confident about yourself when your smile is as radiant as your personality. You’ll want to invest in a teeth cleaning kit and a teeth whitening tool. You want to feel like you just came from the dentist, but without the discomfort. Deep clean your mouth (brush your tongue, floss your teeth, remove plaque, etc). After deep cleaning, apply a whitening tool of your choice. Depending on how white your teeth look now will help you determine the most effective method for you. I like to use hydrogen peroxide, but I also invest in having my teeth whitened professionally, so I don’t need much strength. You may want to look into whitening strips, gels, etc. I’d also like to add that mouthwash is not optional. This way, if you are planning to be around people, you will have no reason to feel self-conscious about your smile, or your breathe (you may also want to keep gum with you). People will want to lean in more as you speak, and you will definitely feel more confident. Now, obviously healthy gums are important for your overall dental hygiene, but it can also influence the way that you are perceived by others. As a woman, the whiter your teeth, the more you are seen as healthy, successful, well-off, attractive and trustworthy.
Here are a few of my favorite teeth whitening and cleaning tools:
Philips Sonicare - DiamondClean Classic Rechargeable Toothbrush, $179.99
Crest 3D Original Whitening Kit, $69.99
Oral Care Dental Scaler,High-Frequency Vibration&Three Modes, Teeth Cleaning Tools Use to Tartar/Plaque/Tooth Stains/Dental Calculus Remover, $23.99
HAND, FEET & NAILS
Soft hands are just pleasant to experience. If you’ve ever shaken the hand of someone with dry and rough skin, you know what I mean. It’s just like with the rest of your body, you want your hands and feet to feel soft and delicate. Invest in a good hand and foot cream. While we’re at it, be sure that this is a part of your moisturizing routine. Care for your skin with intention, love and adoration. As for your nails, invest in a good nail care kit with cuticle oil to give yourself a proper pedicure.
I like to use natural shea butter, coconut butter, coconut oil, etc., but here’s a good hand and foot cream:
Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream, $50
Also, I love this oil for my natural nails (people always mistake them for acrylic):
The Body Shop Almond Nail & Cuticle Oil, Paraben-Free Hand/Nail Treatment, $12
BODY
We all know that feeling that we have after we’ve just buffed our dead skin away, shaved our legs and moisturized the hell out of our body. That is the feeling that you are trying to create. Invest in a good, hydrating body exfoliant and dry brush. I love Trader Joe’s Lavender Scrub and have purchased almost all of them on the shelves. It leaves your skin extremely soft (softer than you could even imagine) and you have natural glow. Speaking of which, you’ll also want to invest in a lovely body shimmer oil or bronzer to achieve a captivating glow with each move that you make.
Here are a few of my favorite body buffing tools:
Dry Brush With Cellulite Massager, $12.99
Trader Joe's Lavender Salt Scrub, $5.99
SELF-ADORNMENT
Invest in timeless lingerie and start collecting articles that remind just how sexy you are. If you just have a basic color-coordinated bra and panty set, that’s a start. But I want you to invest in a set that accentuates your body in all ways possible. Do your research and figure out what styles will best present your beauty. While you’re at it, start looking into other ways to adorn your body. You can invest in jewels, temporary tattoos, glitter, etc.
Obviously savagex.com, agentprovocateur.com and Dita Von Teese are great places to start! One of my absolutely favorite brands is Honey Birdette
CONFIDENCE
Like Dita said, a women who knows what she likes has confidence in her skin. Confidence is the most beauty and sexy aspect of any woman. As we all know, people are naturally more attracted to confident people. Remind yourself of just how beautiful you are on the inside and let that energy exude from every pore.

yes, good! I’m trying to transition myself, and I’ve stumbled upon using a wooden comb, which I’ve switched to exclusively, and I have a very good oil to put in. I think I need to actually find a good brush though. Sad, I’ve been so pleased to have just a comb…
Though I’ve also taken a bit of a short cut through donating my hair at the beginning of the year. Lost twelve inches of hair, and I’m babying the tips something fierce ever since.
I am slowly working on getting my shampoo use less, but now I have a guide on how to do this safely.
Youtube recommended video: can my hair handle a month without shampoo?
Me, who hasn’t used shampoo for 6 years: well golly gee, I dunno
I’ve been working on transitioning my hair to no-shampoo but happened to get my hair trimmed. (Didn’t really need it, but just to keep thing healthy.)
I may have to learn how to cut my own hair, she used Quite A Lot of shampoo to my hair. I almost shriveled up and wailed that I need that sebum.
