An excerpt from a little rewrite I've been working on...
“Hey, you think you've tightened that bolt enough there, Sparky?.”
“Huh?”
Jay looked down at the last bolt in the mini catapult he had been working on.
The bolt was, indeed, very well tightened.
“The bolt. It’s tight. You should probably move on.”
“Oh, uh, yeah.”, Jay said, embarrassed, as he set his wrench down on the floor.
He sat down next to the wrench, staring at the wooden floor boards, attempting to gather his thoughts.
When his mind felt somewhat clear, he looked up again at Nya.
Nya had this look on her face, but only for a second, gone in a flash.
Compassion? Concern? Worry?
No, it was “pity” Jay realized.
He resented that a bit.
I'm not the best writer, but I do enjoy it!

I want to post the whole fic (a rewrite of the lighthouse scenes from "Skybound") once I finish it. But I still have a while to go before it's done, so it won't be soon.

Yes, yes, and YES! This is one of the reasons I love Skybound! They really developed Jay's character! I really wish they would have kept some of that development throughout the following seasons, but he kinda just turned into the "funny one" again.
I've been rewatching Skybound recently, and I've found myself thinking that it would've been absolutely incredible for Jay's story if everyone somehow remembered what happened. (with Nya still being alive, of course). Not only could Jay get help for the insane amount of trauma he experienced, but the ninja team, who likely don't think of him as the "leader" type, would then see differently.
Jay really stood up as a leader in this season. Although he made mistakes in the first half, after he escaped Misfortune's Keep he really took charge and showed how great a leader he could be. He proved that he wasn't just someone who could use lightning and say a funny joke. He could be someone people listen to, look up to, and obey orders from. Someone that people trust to lead them.
Not only did Jay make a plan to keep Nya away from Nadakhan as long as possible, but when she was taken he continued on. Jay also, after Ed talked to him, pick himself up after being the only ninja left standing, created a new team, and made a plan, basically all by himself. He led them despite how he has never led a team before, and led them well. He even made the call to risk his own freedom and go into the Djinn blade, saving the members of the team who were trapped.
Jay is so often, especially now with the newer seasons, seen as just the comedy guy, the funny side character, when in reality, when push comes to shove, he can also be an incredible leader, and it would've been amazing if the rest of the team saw him as such!
Prime Empire showed a little bit of his leadership skills too, but not in the same way. I want to see Jay make plans again, make tough calls, and lead others all by himself.
He can do it, he's proven it, but the others don't know it. If only they did. Maybe then Jay could have another chance at being a leader.
Skybound is kind of a hit-or-miss season overall, but I do have to give it props for absolutely ripping into Jay's characterization like this. Like. They actually went there.
A lot of times it's a popular headcanon/fanon for the comic relief to be using their humor to hide their pain, but apparently in Ninjago it's just straight up canon. So do with that information what you will

Seeing the comments on Skybound's more recent twdg posts make me mad, just cuz they hate a character with a specific ending (Jane) doesn’t make the other option (going with Kenny) canon. None of the endings in season 2 are canon, and I'm pretty sure season 2 is the only season with no canon endings. People just say there’s a canon ending because it’s just their biased opinion, no actual facts or evidence. I could be wrong about this however.

*Episode 55 SPOILERS*
A few thoughts about episode 55, Infamous:
Zane: "I am programmed to obey the law." Cue Jay looking at him and thinking, ‘We should fix that.’ And then Evil Zane! (This is wishful thinking at the moment, but who knows…?)
Also, I’m reasonably sure that the ‘local law enforcement’ heard what Zane was saying about being programmed to obey the laws. Which means the police may use it against him/the other Ninja.

Consider:
Zane: “I am programmed to obey the law.”
As Nya so eloquently said in the Ninjago Mini-Movie, Secrets of the Blacksmith: “May I remind you that this is private property and trespassing is against Ninjago law paragraph 13 section 2?”
I remember them specifically discussing breaking and entering Ronin’s shop at one point in season 5. And Zane went along with it.
Does this mean he can… I don’t know, suppress his programming? It’s more likely a tiny tiny tiny plot hole, but it got me wondering…

‘Redrew’ this panel from the Transformers Skybound comics. I can’t get enough of the grungy artstyle in it.
The fact that bumblebee and cliffjumper don’t ever actually have a sibling dynamic going on, ever, actually hurts me.
I don’t have access to the comics, so I research them. Just to learn the lore and mechanics of everything(without spoiling to much of it so I can read them in the future). In other words I managed to gaslight myself into believing they are my happy go lucky lil guys. BUT NO, CLIFFJUMPER WASNT EVEN IN QUITE A BIT OF COMICS BECAUSE POPULARITY AND REBOOT STUFF!!
My first introduction to bumblebee was Micheal bay movies and the prime series. That’s also how I was introduced to Cliffjumper. I recently watched the older series because I found them, and Cliff is just as silly as bee when you get to see him.
I am forever heart broken.

I haven’t been this heart broken about something since I watched the new season of the dragon prince and liona actually just- IFOSJFBJSKSBD. Ya know?
Like I watched that happened, I was reminded murther or Gwen x Morgana will never be canon, and now this. I can only take so much.
Next your gonna tell me transformers one flops right after it releases in September or that like anything else I enjoy just imploded and then I’m going to explode.

Guys I’m not joking I was literally sketching them today and today I learn they’re not even canon? Why couldn’t I have my twin boys being twins? Wym they’re not canonically together that often? Like I don’t know what to say, I am hurt.
Like I just wanted to have quick little doodles of them with an Oc. Like this kid is younger brother of 3 who loves kids. He understands that sibling life and now your telling me the siblings I like to draw him with aren’t siblings?!
I’m embracing the delusion. Cliff and Bee are canonically brothers, you cannot sway me. Bee is the younger brother and Cliff is older. I am not excepting argument and please anyone join me in my delusion and just say they’re siblings. It’s been like almost two hours and I’m not remotely okay finding out they’re not even featured together that often.
