Having my dad read soc/ck is really fun because occasionally I’ll hear him say “oh kaz” like he’s a son who’s endearingly misbehaving. But honestly the best part is watching him fall in love with Nina and Matthias’s relationship and not. Saying. A word.

My mom is reading soc now. She doesn’t like Matthias as much as my dad did (who was devastated by his death in ck btw) but one thing all three of us can agree on is that “he needed to thank her for his new hat” is a heartstring puller

-Hogwarts houses✨: Wylan, Inej, and Kuwei are Ravenclaw. Kaz is a Slytherin. Nina is a Gryffindor. Jes is a Hufflepuff. Mattias went to durmstrang.
-Mattias is a death eater because he's a Druskelle
-Yk that one part of ATYD (not canon harry potter) where Lupin used that spell to get un-illiterate. Wylan tries that but it doesn't work bc wylan isn't actually illiterate he is just dyslexic
-Kaz is a descendant of salazar slytherin and could therefore open the chamber of secrets
- I'm using their book ages bc why not. Kaz Inej and Nina are all year 7s. Jes, Wylan, and Kuwei are year 6 and Matt has already graduated from wizard school
- Wylan cant do magic that well (like filtch or early series Nevile). the only real magic thing he can do is potions also brooms
-about the previous point. Van Eck has 3 reasons to hate him now! 1. the dyslexia thing 2. the fact that he isn't Slytherin 3. the fact that he's a squib. Also, his mom was half muggle so there's that. (also his mother was half Weasely. that's why he's a ginger)
-Inej actually didn't attend Hogwarts in her 3-6 year bc she was literally stolen by Tante Heleen.
-Azkaban is Hellgate

-Van Eck works at the Ministry of Magic
-Shadow Daddy (Aleksander) is referred to as he-who-shall-not-be-named but he isn't Voldemort. there isn't really a Voldemort in this au. the closest thing to Voldemort would be Druskelle Jarl(?) Brum.
-Van Eck is a death eater
-Jesper is on the Quidditch team. He's a seeker.
-Kaz's cane doubles as a wand, kinda like Hagrid's pink umbrella
-Inej's patronus is a cat, Kaz's is a crow Matt's is a wolf

Here we have Matthias Helvar from the Six of Crows duology by @lbardugo. I do actually like him a lot, I’ve seen some hate towards this character but I’m a trully supporter of him. [SPOILER ALERT 🚨] I cry every time I read that last scene of him in Crooked Kingdom and I still cried in King of Scars. They didn’t deserve this! 😭😭😭. Anyway! Enjoy this fjerdan sexy boy 💙 Can’t wait to see @calahan.skogman playing him

Beyond the realisation that I can draw sheer fabric using a layer effect on my app, this drawing was inspired by the heavier topics that SoC addresses, so only proceed if you are okay with the content. (CW: s*xual ab*se, f*tishisation)
One of the things I really appreciate from SoC is how Leigh wrote in the issue of fetishisation and exoticism of cultures and how harmful it is to the person of that identity. Beyond the abuse Inej endured in the Menagerie, it also broke her connection to her culture. Inej stayed away from silks after the Menagerie, even if it was part of her Suli identity. This made me wish for more insight on her relationship with her culture now after surviving the Menagerie, as sexualised stereotypes have always been very harmful and often seen when portraying female POC characters in the media.
Although my culture has yet to be fetishised in Western media (probably cuz it never appeared anyway lmao) this maltreatment exists in my own country against the women who don our own TRADITIONAL CLOTHES. They censor the exposed skin that traditional clothing cuts give in the name of “decency”, when our culture gave very similar clothing shapes for both male and female wearers. It’s all so disturbing, so I’m glad that Leigh addressed such a big topic that is still prevalent today, even if it isn’t as blatantly racist or sexist as it was before.

My least favorite thing about multiple pov books, is how the author inevitably tries to switch povs consistently but there are always those parts where one pov is full of action and really interesting and the other (s) is soooo boring in comparison. And I have to force myself to not skip the boring povs temporarily, and I hate it

Soc fic idea
Jordie's still alive. Kaz lives a double life. Way back then, Jordie almost died and Kaz had to save them and fell into the dark side of ketterdam. He couldn't bring himself to admit the awful things he was a part of to Jordie and instead spent more and more time away from him to participate in gang jobs to make enough money. (Maybe Jordie has some sort of long covid type thing after initially not dying) Kaz gets them a room/apartment, but sneaks out when he can to rejoin the gang, until eventually he's spending more time away than with Jordie. Jordie doesn't know about what Kaz does while he's away and the crows don't know about Jordie.
